Welcome to the Out of Context discussion thread. And also the place where you guys can suggest and talk about alternate universes!

Here's the sheet for alternate universe suggestions:

• Alternate Universe Name: [Just call it 'the -insert defining characteristic- AU' or make a spiffy name for it!]
• General Description: [What's so different about this AU? Is everyone here turned into a dog? Or is this an AU that takes place on the far future with mechs and stuff?]
• Setting: [Describe the place where most of the action in your AU will take place, so other players can start working out what their characters will be doing!]
• Events: [What will be happening during this AU? If it's a Mafia AU, what will the characters have to deal with?]
• Goal/Ending: [Every good thing must come to an end, especially so the players can experience other A Us. What is the 'end state' for your AU?]

• Western AU

The "everyone's a dog" alternate universe sounds entertaining.

• Alternate Universe Name: Western AU

•General Description: An alternate universe where everyone is in the stereotypical American West, with cowboys, ranches, bandits, bounty hunters, bar fights, sheriffs, and all that other stuff.

•Setting: Takes place in a Boom Town constructed around a newly discovered oil field, and the surrounding ranches and rocky desert.

•Events: Characters get caught up in a cattle robbery and must form a posse to try and get the stolen goods back from the bandits (who can also be characters). They can also just hang out in town and get into their own trouble with pistol duels, gambling, horse riding, and other challenges.

•Goal/Ending: The AU ends when the good guys catch the thieves...or the bandits get across the border and escape the law. Either outcome is fine.

Doesn't need to be just one event, by the way.

I wanted it to have a main ending event, but I also added a few side activities above. Characters don't have to join the robbery storyline if they don't want to, they can just interact with each other in bars or pick fights in town until someone actually catches the thieves.

Speaking of, you should also say if there are fantastical elements on your alternate universe, so players should know if their characters can keep their abilities and stuff.

• Alternate Universe Name: Disney Musical AU
• General Description: This realm is where everything that happens follows the Disney formula
• Setting: A pseudomedieval Kingdom with Castles, prince, princesses and talking animal sidekicks. It borders an evil kingdom with a wicked queen
• Events: The evil queen sets her plan to perform evil in motion, at which point the hero/heroine meet and gather a team of wacky sidekicks to stop the evil plan and share a true loves kiss. Atleast three songs are involved along the way.
• Goal/Ending: Detailed above

A lighthearted AU

A generic post-apocalyptic Fallout/Mad Max type AU might be interesting.

A funny, lighthearted AU

Alternate Universe Name: Anime High School AU.

General Description: A typical Slice-of-life Universe that has most of the usual Anime tropes.

Setting: A typical Japanese high school in the typical suburbs. Expect geysers of blood, flaming auras, gigantic sweatdrops, and people yelling at volumes that put speakers to shame.

Events: Welcome to Kashiwa High School's cultural festival! See the attractions! Taste the food! Laugh at the wacky hijinks that occur between students! Maybe get roped into a school play, or help out with a brawl started by a local delinquent gang! Or even take part in the martial arts tournament in the gym! There are many possibilities! Opening hours are 9:00AM-9:00PM.

Ending: The end of the School Festival

Considering writing up a Conan The Barbarian inspired AU. Would anyone be interested in that?

That'd be amazing.

I probably won't run any A Us myself, but I have a few ideas for potential 'verses.

• Silver Age comic book universe, complete with terrible science and extraordinarily hammy dialogue.

• 1920's gangster universe (maybe BB could transform into one of those old-fashioned Cadillacs, if he just doesn't become a human?)

• Post-apocalyptic universe, Fallout-style.

• Giant robot universe, a la Gundam or Pacific Rim.

Loving all these suggestions. How would the musics work on the Disney AU, yd12k?

And Sven, I presume there'll be blossoms falling around everytime a romantic thing happens?

Of course!

I think there also should be an Arena AU, a Battle of the Bands AU and, of course, a Shoujo Anime AU. Basically, everyone gets reinterprated as a shoujo anime character. And they have to fight some massive, world-ending threat... but not after discovering the power of friendship!

That's for the 'Sports Anime AU'.

If we need to start with one, I think we should go for the Western AU first. And this is totally not because my character already has a western version of himself.

So I have two ideas for what BB should become if we do the Wild West scenario first: either as a young-ish cowboy who got shot in the throat by bandits, or more esoterically, as a robot that turns into a stagecoach (although I don't think that would totally fit the scenario). Thoughts?

I like the former. Did he get shot as a young boy and as such cannot speak? Or did he get shot now?

Because I can totally imagine Alexander as a rich kid who owns a bunch of lands on town but spends his time with the people, taking care of them, earning the nickname of 'Prince'. And he could totally take care of BB.

So this was sort of inspired by Scary Godmother and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

• Alternate Universe Name: OokySpookyville
• General Description: A cartoonish light horror-esque world.
• Setting: A dark little town full of monsters that enjoy scaring people, but mean no harm and are actually quite nice. Except one.
• Events: Our characters, either normal Earth-people (probably teenagers) who get pulled into an alternate dimension - via magical haunted-house - one dark and spooky Halloween night, or OokySpookyville citizens (monsters) who are already there. After the initial scare, the humans join the monsters for OokySpookyfest, the biggest Halloween party ever. But Baron von Bittershadow seeks to make Halloween night last forever, which would cause mankind to live in eternal fear (also the now neverending party would get boring fast).
• Goal/Ending: The defeat of Baron von Bittershadow and the dawn of November 1st.

@Loco: Leave it up to the GM, I guess. Stagecoach would be good for scaring the spurs off bandits, but cowboy would allow for more interaction.

As for the Mafia AU, I think BB should become a 1920's Deusenberg◊

Speaking of which, would Chibigami appear as a little white puppy (with a flaming wheel of jade), or an energetic kid with quick hands and feet?

I like the idea of a Western. I envision Sparhawk as a Wyatt Earp-style lawman.
