[up]You don't need to tell me that. That the Spartans institutionalized child rape is common knowledge—it's also a point against the people who want to hold it up as some sort of bi/gay paradise, but that's neither here nor there—;however it isn't particularly relevant to this discussion, as the Spartans didn't write most of their myths or even their histories down. The "Heracles is gay/bi" myths that people have been talking about here, all have their roots in Athens, because the Athenians were the only ones—more or less—writing myths down or, in the case of The Iliad, writing critiques of them.

I'll note again, that I am not actually opposed to an adaptation of any of those Athenian takes on the myths. If somebody wants to do an adaptation with a gay/bi Heracles, I'd probably watch it (though I confess I'd avoid gay Achilles, since that's not an adaptation of a version of the myth, it's somebody mistaking literary critique for the actual story). The only thing that bothers me is the implication that some have made that not having a gay/bi Heracles is evidence of homophobia. It isn't—it's just an adaptation of an older and equally valid—if not more valid due to its age—version of the myth.

At that rate we might as well create an original hero who's manly and not straight and be done with it.

[up]Again, not something I would have any sort of an issue with. In fact, I'd be behind such a project one hundred percent. That most of our action heroes are still straight, white men is a pity.
