Well, at least that answers the question of who specifically tortured Takizawa: it was neither Eto nor Tatara, but rather it was Kanou.

D-did Kanou just do the Shaft Head Tilt?!

What was in your right hand is hope; And in another hand is something else to fade.

And it's time for another round of Ishida's wild ride:

  • Kanou praises how Kuro has grown into a woman/adult, but then scoffs at her when she begs him to save her sister. Kanou explains that Shiro is long dead, and only a figment of Kuro's imagination now. She flies into a rage and attacks him, but is countered by Kanou releasing one of his new creations. It's Okahira, the dude that Furuta used as a meat shield during the Tsukiyama Raid.
  • Takizawa mocks Amon, calling him a failure and daring him to "save him". The two fight, with Takizawa completely overpowering him. Amon states that Takizawa has committed terrible crimes, but that he's seen how weak/strong Takizawa really is (flashback to him refusing to abandon Amon). Amon begs Takizawa to remember who he really is — not a ghoul, but a ghoul investigator. He tells Takizawa to live, and use his strength to atone for his crimes alongside him. Takizawa turns to Akira and demands to know which of them is right — whether he should die, or live. She's unable to answer.
  • Juuzou arrives, and throws a knife into Takizawa's eye.

I am legit wondering who the Qs are. I mean, we could be getting some new characters.....but it seems more emotionally powerful for it to be people we know.

Looking at the previous big operation, we lost:

  • Hairu
  • Shirazu
  • Kijima
  • Shimoguchi
  • Miho (Shimoguchi's subordinate)
  • Shion (ditto)
  • Okahira (Ihei's subordinate)
  • 3 dudes from Itou Squad

Most of them were decapitated or ripped to pieces. I dunno even Kanou could work with that.

Oh god zombies. [up] If Kanou figures out exactly how Eto's kagune was able to keep Noro alive even when he was reduced to a dessicated corpse, it might be possible. I have a nasty feeling Shirazu-zombie will show up eventually, it's just too much of a Chekhov's gun. His body was reasonably intact, too. I'm hoping Ishida doesn't dump another load of new characters on us at least.

And Suzuya showing up on the scene turns this into a fine mess. Looks like any chance of Takizawa's redemption just went down...though Suzuya does have his "victim of circumstances" past as a scrapper too, which might be an interesting point of discussion.

Takizawa had something of a point when he mocked Amon for only showing up to save Akira specifically, though. I suppose it's possible that if he'd shown up earlier, the CCG would have attacked him too.

Once again, it's time to suffer.

Chapter 92:

  • .......the knife-thrower was MUTSUKI. There's a lovely color cover of Mutsuki for this week: "I am scary and detestable".
  • Mutsuki has stolen clothing, and is dressed in CCG combat gear. He apologizes for being out of contact, and states that he will be helping by some time while engaging with the "SS-Rated Owl and a "Floppy". (The wording for buying time is......vague, though.) Akira starts to explain that Suzuya and Quinx squad are on the way, but Mutsuki starts laughing hysterically and lets out his kagune, cutting Akira across the cheek.
  • Kurona kills(?) the Kanou-Q, and then talks to Kanou about how at one point there was a lab accident that killed all his assistants. She says another "accident" is going to happen, and everyone is going to die. Kanou lets out all the other test subjects to attack her.
  • Naki protects Miza, and collapses from his wounds. Miza weeps, while a figure appears behind her in the shadows.

I like the implications they've killed his assistants before. Also had a feeling next time we see that person that Mutsuki would just attack everyone.

I kind of am hoping Suzuya brings up the fact that he was a nasty scrapper. We don't have the exact numbers of how many people he killed and tortured but I imagine it was pretty high considering how Big Madam favored him....

He had no choice in that matter either. Suzuya was tortured rather heavily if he did not comply with Madam's wishes (which brings up all kinds of horrific implications considering what we saw Madam do) Same thing with Takizawa. I mean you could argue that he did his killings out of his own volition but I honestly seriously doubt it. There is way to much obvious evidence that they tortured him and filled him with Eto's views on the world.

Takizawa could probably be used like Suzuya was at the start. Basically used as an attack dog with a partner actively trying to rehabilitate him. I am not sure if he would agree with it but it would be an interesting parallel never the less. Kind of sad that Takizawa has a rather bitter yet good point towards Amon. What makes that even worse is that he looked up to Amon and part of the reason he got into this mess in the first place was because he made a choice to try to help Amon which was rather brave all things considered....

Suzuya was raised by his Mama from a child which is part of why he's so messed up. Despite it I'd say he's actually better and more well adjusted than Takizawa is in his current state. Even stuff that got blamed on him like killing those cats was a lie.

Despite all that happend he even still loved his mama when they went to put her down, while she makes it clear it was never mutual. Takizawa is just happy to murder even those who seek to help him because he hates the person in question.

Suzuya leans more towards Kaneki while Mutsuki someone who has reveled in murder and killed animals for their tongues is more like Takizawa.

Well you have a point. Still I wonder were this is gonna go. I wouldn't be exactly opposed to Takizawa dying, the guy honestly has suffered way to much and I am not even sure rehabilitation is even possible. Takizawa is a completely shattered mess of a person at this point, likely too far gone. I wouldn't be surprised if he would try to kill himself after say...a therapist helped him the sheer gravity and brutality of his actions.

Amon and Akira are clearly not happy about what happened either. Same thing with Houji before he died....

The text in the redrawn chapter 1 sure is different. Is it the translation, or was it actually changed? Cuz...

"Man, hurry up and notice, Kaneki. The ghoul that's closest to you." Boy, that sounds a lot like something Ghoul!Washuu!Hide would say.

Oh man, when I saw the knife just chapter I actually asked myself whether we knew any knife-users other than Suzuya, and Mutsuki completely failed to come to mind. This is a mess in a whole different direction.

Mutsuki's response when Urie was mentioned was interesting. I wonder how things will play out when they meet again.

I don't think Takizawa is anything like Mutsuki, though. It's become clear that Mutsuki's had that axe-crazy personality since he was a kid, despite usually presenting a more normal front (I hesitate to explicitly call it split personality/dissociative identity disorder given the controversy about its existence, but I suppose if Ishida intends to write it that way within a work of fiction it's probably fine). Whereas we've seen that Takizawa was a decent guy, perhaps with something of an inferiority complex, but someone who cared for those around him, and had the courage to give up his life even when he knew it was pretty much futile. (Admittedly, his actions now fall uncomfortably into Being Tortured Makes You Evil, which is also a somewhat dubious trope. One thing's for certain, though - if there's any ounce of plausibility to that idea, Eto and Tatara would certainly be masters of carrying it out.)

P.S. On a different note, Kanou's personality is surprisingly goofy. He's spent so much time as a mysterious figure without much screentime, and now that we actually see interactions with him, he turns out to be weirdly dorky in a mad-scientist sort of way.

Mutsuki ended up that way because they were abused though. It just wasn't as brutal as Kanou and implied Tatara's stuff. None of them were ever the exact same when the point was made, but in terms of who've they become and act.

[up]Not sure if any in Aogiri count as heroic, but they're definitely the most decent members apart from Hinami and Ayato.

Because Tsukiyama and Naki are bros, and they need to FOUR GEM LIONS again.

Poor Shuu, his dramatic entrance was ruined by Naki not remembering him.

But damn it, Ishida. Stop making all my children fight each other. T_T

I wonder how Kanou and Nishiki know each other?

Ishida's wild ride gets wilder.

Chapter 94:

  • Poor Tsukiyama isn't remembered. The others note this is perfectly normal for Naki to forget things. Tsukiyama attacks Ui, and both note its personal between them.
  • Nishiki confirmed to have been hunting Torso as part of an "Aogiri Hunt" to find Kanou. Kuro wonders whether he's an ally or enemy. Kanou's Quinx attack, but Nishiki fights them off until Shikorae appears and cuts his kagune apart. Okahira rescues Kanou, and Roma attacks Nishiki from behind. She hangs on Shikorae, and notes that "Sou-chan" (Furuta) asked her to come.
  • Mutsuki vs Takizawa. He gets impaled, and laughs it off before using Mutsuki's kagune as a reel. He runs Mutsuki through with his kagune, but Mutsuki spews blood in his face and blinds him. Mutsuki then kicks him in the crotch, and pins his limbs down with bikaku strands. Then.....stomps on him again for good measure. While Takizawa is stunned, Mutsuki tells Akira they might be able to win and prepares to attack again. Akira screams for Mutsuki to stop, and shields Takizawa with her own body, getting stabbed.
