You really need to learn some manners, hun. I'm all for the "fend for yourself" thing, but having a few allies wouldn't hurt. Especially when we don't totally know what's going on.

The little fish's fear is its own. We know what is, and what must be done. And then it seemed to snicker. The strong always do.

"Shut up." said Erinn, it took her a moment to realize she spoke aloud, and was facing the group when she said it.

"Sorry. That...wasn't to you. Anyways, Victor right? We can't make you sign up, but choosing school over us sounds like a mistake. Not to sound like a dick, but do you really think your college books'll teach you how to deal with this? You're not a normal kid, hun." Here she addressed the rest of the group except for Leo. "None of you are. So why settle for a normal life you can't really have?"

Now she turned to the one other adult present. "How 'bout you, Leo. You think you'll be able to head back to work with voices in your head?"

Erinn smiled at the prospect; about time someone started getting interested.

She offered her hand to shake. "We'd be happy to have you."

"College?," George said with a snort. "Before Loki, my future was more likely prison. I admit that's not a rosy picture either. But I want to know exactly what Mercutio's real deal is. And I don't think it's whatever he pitched to you to get you to sign on."

"And I don't go to school. I'm a monkey!" Setsuko smiled. "So I don't mind living in the wild if I have to. I don't need money or anything. But these guys might be trying to do something evil, like rule the world! If they are, we have to stop them."

? Erinn didn't know how, but she sensed that Lotan wasn't following her.

They're strangers, hun. The only reason they're together is because they've all got super powers and voices in their heads. I was worried at least a few of them would've been friends before, but if they're from completely different backgrounds that works to our advantage. We can pull that thread.

"You don't trust our group? Can't say I blame you; that takes time to build. But since when has not trusting people ever stopped you from working with them? You kids ever have part-time jobs? Ever think your coworkers, or even your boss, have your best interests in mind? How about school? How about being a customer? The cook, the cashier, the salesclerk: you probably don't know their names, let alone trust them. But you deal with them everyday without a thought because you all understand an unspoken rule: if you're screwed, they'll get screwed."

Now for the clincher. "Did you guys even know each other before today? A college student, a drifter, a future inmate, and a monkey. The only reason you guys would get together is because you all have something in common: in this case, it's gods paying rent in your bodies. I can't imagine any of you guys really trusting each other yet, and here you are joining forces to break into our building. I'm not criticizing; I'm praising. You're putting your life in the hands of people you just met. That's impressive, and it's what I'm asking you to do with us."

Erinn sighed for a moment, both to rest from her speech and to prepare for the end. "I couldn't talk to Lotan before the guys here helped me out, and they're still helping me learn to use his power. So yeah, I'm siding with Mercutio and his friends upstairs, but it's not a one-sided gain. You don't have to trust him if you don't want to, you just have to work with him. And if he ever tries to backstab you..."

Officer Walcott glanced at the pillar to heaven, as if these last words were for Mercutio as much as for the group.

"...there's always that unspoken rule."

Cemetary: Stagalmites Make Fire-Breathing Doggy Go Boom

As the dog was about to belch forth a fiery inferno of epic proportions, a stalagmite pierced right thought it's throat, with another stabbing straight into it's gullet. The dog's throat then burst wide open, in a glorious, blinding inferno that would easily rival the force of three grenades.

"I haven't heard his pitch before so I'll be willing to listen," George said

Plus it's an easy way in without having to sneak or fight. Loki, tell the others that we want to go in anyway so we might as well accept but, and do this only if you can keep Lotan and Erinn from hearing tell them to keep eyes and ears open for any interesting opportunities.

Well, worse comes to worse you can totally beat her up. Also, Loki says we should go along with this. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing.

Well, he's the god of tricking people, right? So he'd know if it was a trick, I guess.

"I guess I'd be willing to listen to Mercury, too." Setsuko said, looking at the ground sheepishly.

"…" It was clear that Victor was considering Erinn's words, and discussing his next move with Susanoo. Half a minute after Erinn's speech, he finally made his decision.

"Alright…you make a fair point. At the very least, I'll listen to what he has to say."

Erinn smiled at the results, but she kept her small reservations to herself; these guys just tried to break in, so it's possible they're just going with the path of least resistance. But that was Mercutio's problem, not hers. As far as this little job fair was concerned, everything worked perfectly.

"Then let's talk more inside. Mercutio should be meeting us in the lobby."

The Lobby

If the others entered the lobby, they would see a a rather large round table in the center, filled with apples, carrots, doughnuts, a bowel of punch, and various other goodies and refreshments. And standing right behind, holding a large ladle full of punch, was none other than Mercucio, standing beside him was the receptionist.

"Well, what do you know?", said Mercucio. "The gang's all here! Well, some of it, anyway. Punch?"

Erinn stared at the table, surprised that Mercutio was serious about the snacks. Normally she would've refused the punch, but she wanted to help show the others that Mercutio wasn't a threat; God knew he needed the good image.

With her punch in front of her, Erinn to a seat to Mercutio's right.

After Loki whispered some advice in his mind George asked, a lot more formally than those who knew him would think him capable of, "Is this food and drink freely given and without obligation?"

"Yup," said Mercucio. "That it is. Try the kiwi, will you? It's practically a gift for the Gods!"

This…wasn't what I was expecting. Victor thought, before he grabbed an apple and resumed his place with the other hosts. Susanoo grumbled something along the lines about how Mercucio's ego was the size of Mt. Fuji .

Setsuko smiled, then quickly snatched an armful of various fruits and began nibbling on them.

Yummy! Maybe they aren't as bad as I thought...

It worries me how easily you can be swayed by fresh fruit.

Leo hadn't actually seen Mercucio before, but when he did, he didn't really think he would be offered food and drink by him. Leo gingerly took a doughnut and an apple. He was still quite suspicious of Mercucio, and Lugh was too, but Lugh was more tied up in other matters.

I can't believe we didn't get to fight anyone. It was going to be a massive battle, gods against each other. It would have been like Balor all over again! But no, Little miss Fish-for-god had to come and ruin it.

Shut up, I would have died anyway. I would be fighting gods who have fully mastered their powers. I don't even have a weapon. I. Would. Have. Died. So I'm pretty glad she came along. Besides, we'll find other things to kill.

Fine... I still don't like her though.

Leo took a bite into his apple. It was delicious. He finished it rather quickly and dived into his doughnut.

" Mmph mmph mmph" Then Leo realised his mouth was still filled with doughnut, and quickly swallowed it. "Sorry. So what exactly is it that you need us to do, I mean, you must have sent Erinn down for something. Right?"
