I am only a TV tropes poster on very rare occasions, but I have used the site on a casual basis for years. Yesterday, I wanted to show my daughter the Headscratchers page for The Matrix, because she just watched it for the first time, and I thought all Headscratchers had been deleted! This morning, after a 20 minute search, I found the post that told me about how the words 'Headscratchers' and 'Fridge' had been changed to icons on the page of each work.

I'm glad the pages aren't gone, but I wanted to go on record as saying that, as a casual user, it took quite a bit of searching to discover that. And without the subpages, TV Tropes would have been about 50% less awesome to me, personally. I love the site, but I think this change has the effect of making the site more inscrutable to the outside world, more insular. Perhaps this is what the admins are going for? If not, at least really clear posting (at the top of the page as a banner, or similar) about the change, and what the icons mean, would be a step in the right direction.

Like it or not, it's impossible to communicate every design change to our vast audience in such a way that they will be sufficiently informed in advance. The namespace icon discussion has been ongoing for a long time and is currently housed here.
