Perhaps, we could suggest every player invent their proverbial 4 Treasures of Ireland or 13 of Britain? One of which might become a target for questing.

Oh oh an evil sorcerer in a tower who used an ancient magical artifact to trigger a potato plague that devastated the crops of whatever nations existed at them time causing famine and a global war over the scant remaining resources.

This is now canon.

The artefact is called 'The Tuberosumonomicon'; it was written by the great wizards of old to propagate potatoes in the land, but was corrupted by the evil being Khazz to destroy them instead.

Two Items of legendary import, of varying degrees of usability but at least some flavour for my people. More may be added later.

  • The Lymphaid of Shealda: A boat which legend has it may direct the currents and winds around it by the humming of a short charm into its sail with the name of the destination of traveller. The origin of the boat is disputed as the name Shealda appears a few times in Silkmare history and legends for various Queens, Princesses and Heroines of note.

  • The Old Fidcail: Fidcail is a game quite popular amongst the nobility of the Selkies, it is said to derive from this game. The pieces move on their own, with a turn undergone at least every twenty four hours. Yet, the players are cautious and wellversed in the game, that the game is known to have gone on for 5 centuries at least and no clear winner has been seen. Some say it is a reflection of a game of the Gentry in which the fate of the world is gambled and wiser Druids have at times been able to understand the significance of great events based off of the game. Legend tells that a young and reckless warrior once moved his own piece, only to die upon his next journey, in three days time, when the piece was taken.

Hey so while we're waiting around, that doesn't mean we need to be quiet. Anybody got anything they want to talk about or discuss? It doesn't even need to be potato-related[lol]

Like I dunno, we've got 1500+ years of history to work with. Anybody want to work together on throwing some historical events together?

Okay the previous evil potato sorcerer was a joke but for reals there should have been some evil dude in the past who united almost the entire continent under his iron grip and was eventually overthrown by the ancestors of some of our races. Which would make current political tensions between all of them a bit ironic and such.

I think the Dragon Empire qualifies as that in both cases. Not saying it was actually evil, although maybe it was nut at least some of it's subject nations would probably regard it as such. I know Oreia does.

I mean another force before the Dragon Empire, way back in time. Like something more ancient, a singular entity versus an empire. Maybe it's even a sealed evil that can potentially become a threat again in the modern age.

Honestly, even more recent might be wise? I mean, my guys being expies for Gaels/Norse [To the point that I deliberately picked Gaelicized-Norse or Gaelicized-Saxon names], we're probably fairly isolated from too much external history as we lack political unity and direct invaders.

Three major exports of the Silkies however are Poetry [Complicated verses and ideally of a high relative quality, mirroring the complexity of the Gaels during the Dark ages especially but even in to the High and Late middle ages], Druidism [again, mirroring the Celtic missions accross the continent] and Raiding [Parallel to Gaels against the Britons and English, Briton Settlements and Norwegian Raiding]. Actual products they make and sell are decent and enough to make them worth while trading partners [Mostly various tin goods (they can smelt some pretty patterns and art work into a distinctive style), jewelry (particularly pearls), Whale ivory and other Whale products as well as some other minor goods] but they are far outshadowed economically by the other trading nations.

If anyone wants to work with that, I'd be open to discuss with them. I should also note that the Vikings did expand as far south as Sicily and the Ukraine, while even raiding into Persia and Newfoundland. So it might not be too far fetched for them to have relations with really distant nations in the last century or so, either positive [settlements trading knowledge and skills, Druids introducing new magic and aiding natives] or negative [Raids from petty Chieftans and Druids serving as a subversive influence].

It should be noted that I envision the Silkies starting off with a rather rocky relationship with the Misci and at least one, or both, of the trading nations [depending on distance].

If I understand how we are doing the Map, the Theocracy is nearly bang in the middle of the continent, so I'm not sure if that would be of any interest to the Selkies.

[up][up]The Map isn't final; Nman and myself are both scratching our heads about how to fit everyone together. Considering we have several Jungle and Arid nations, I'd really picture the Cold Theocracy at a colder Northern Peak, rather than near the Center [where the Temperate-To-Warm territories like Malkarath already staked a claim].

Faux, just look at the Sierra Nevada to see how you can have a lot of really cold mountain land relatively near the coast and far from the center of the continent.

Reasoning for this? Just so I can get a feel for how my half of the relationship works.

The Selkies are rather protective of their waters, sudden invasion and fishing would have them see the Misci as rivals.

Also, considering the Selkies disguise themselves as Seals, I believe some tension might arise from Misci mistaking Selkies for marine life while hunting. If this happens, you'd probably get the odd violent reprisal from Clans against fishing Misci, who they'd try to drag under and drown. Not war or anything, but the odd case of accidental murder and reprisal.

So there tends to be the occasional fight or death on either side and as a result there's tension at the diplomatic level. I'm good with that.

Okay, Happy Fourth of July means I get some time to breathe. Which I burned in Paint.net making another crude mockup of a map. I think, I think I managed to get everyone in. For the love of God please tell me I didn't skip someone. Except the Misci, I guess, since they're just flying about.

This first one has Jianghu where I suggested, while this other one has it where it's currently indicated.
