Yay.

Personally, I thought this version of Quicksilver was infinitely better than Avengers 2's Quicksilver.

Yes, yes, he's an actual character and closer to canon, yadda yadda yadda, but can he do this?

Yeah, didn't think so.

You know Avengers Quicksilver took down several Ultron bodies.

[up]I still think the "multitasking" in DOFP was a few degrees more impressive.

Uh, he wasn't multitasking. He was just moving so fast that he could change things, which AOU Quicksilver did as well (remember the scene where he removed all of the bullets from Klaw's gun?). The only difference between the two is 1) DOFP Quicksilver got to show off his powers with a scene using a great song, 2) DOFP Quicksilver also left in the middle of the movie when he would have been helpful, and 3) AOU Quicksilver died.

[up]I put multitasking in quotes to imply that it wasn't really. And yes the gun feat wasn't bad. But I was just more impressed by how easy the DOFP version made protecting his allies and humiliating their attackers within the space of a fraction of a second look.

DOFP!Quicksilver - Casually rearranged bullets midfire and defeated enemies.

AOU!Quicksilver - Got shot to death.

Pretty sure rounds fired by aircraft cannons are several times faster than normal pistol bullets.

AOU!Quicksilver: moves faster than the bullets to save Hawkeye and a child, even though it means he puts himself in the bullets path.

DOFP!Quicksilver: "I know you guys probably need a speedster, but bye!"

And guards were shooting at DOFP!Quicksilver from closer distance, more than one direction, and in a far narrower space.

AOU!Quicksilver needs to stop to take a breath every time he runs at superspeed and is not faster than a bullet.

AOS Quicksilver is an actual character compared to a guy who's just an opportunity to show off cool effects.

The X movies haven't exactly put a lot of effort into characters not named Wolverine and it's only now that they're changing that.

Well no crap, DOFP!Quicksilver isn't even a major character in the movie and frankly, there's nothing wrong with that. He did his part and left the movie so the actual main characters of the story can go ahead with the main story. Besides, he is a kleptomaniac thrill junkie teenager, the kind that Xavier wouldn't want to carry with him unless absolutely necessary. Oh sure, if Quicksilver was with him and the crew, it would have made things so much easier but you know what they say about hindsight and hindsight bias.

If that sounds like a Deus Exit Machina to Marvel Cinematic Universe fans, it's probably because it's familiar to them. -glances at most Phase 2 movies-

XAVIER: Hey, shouldn't we need this Peter kid around? He seems like he would be really useful when we confront Mystiqe.

LOGAN: Nah, he has to go home.

XAVIER: Why?

LOGAN: Eh, so the movie isn't over too soon.

I'm sorry, what? I don't think I remember any Deux Exit Machinas in the Phase 2 films.

I think he's talking about how Phase 2 separated the avengers in a way that would make communicating with each other for help impossible.

XAVIER: That sounds pretty cheap.

LOGAN: Hey, if the rest of the Avengers can go fuck off doing whatever when Winter Soldier or Iron Man 3 took place, I sure don't see why can't we.

Hey, I'm critical of the MCU movies as well, but that shouldn't excuse the X-movies own mistakes. If the MCU movies cna't get away with this crap, then neither should the X-movies.

[up][up]Except those weren't Avengers movies. If the movie was called Wolverine, Professor X, and Magneto, sure, but it was called X-Men. The Avengers don't leave each other in Avengers.

More specifically, they don't introduce a character who can do something really useful...and then get rid of him after one scene.

@windle - I was just saying that if MCU fans can accept the logic that in Phase 2 movies, it wasn't about the Avengers so the Avengers weren't around, then they shouldn't have trouble accepting Quicksilver being written out of movie quickly because it's not about him.

The X-Men have always been about accepting people with rather shady backgrounds for the good of mutantkind. Like more than half of their combined lineup through history has been a villain or extremely dark anti-hero at some point or another.

Avengers Quicksilver got himself killed to save a largely superfluous character.

X-men Quicksilver...didn't get himself killed at all.

Given how irritating Xavier found Quicksilver while they were recruiting him at the house, can you imagine him trying to put up with him on a several hour long flight in a relatively small confined space flying up around in the air?

alliterator Since: Jan, 2001

Sure, but he would take Erik, the guy who paralyzed him and was prepared to mass murder a bunch of dudes. (I mean, seriously, every single X-Men movie, Magneto is like, "Oh, I'm a good guy now, whoops, nope, I'm the bad guy! Time to kill the humans!" I mean, except for the first and third movies where he was just straight up a bad guy.)
