To be honest Smokeyard isn't even the worst SR map in this game. It's hard because of how it's designed, not because of slowdown forcing a timeout

This is not the best loadout for it though (glowflies mean you lose)

D Cd in the last wave of a good Salmon Run shift. The fact Nintendo charges money for peer-to-peer online in 2024 is unacceptable.

Once the final season ends and I don’t need to worry about trying to get level 100 in the seasonal catalogs anymore, THEN I’ll focus on Anarchy battles.

@Midna can't really agree with that as Everytime I play smokeyard I feel like Murphy is playing with me.

I suddenly find myself missing Off the Hook and considering checking out Splatoon 3 as a way to rectify that.

Man, it's a good thing this hit you now. Speaking from personal experience, you would not have been happy if you started missing them before mid-January. Since it came now, though, Side Order will scratch that itch quite handily

I think I should hang up the controller for this game. For the first time across the nearly 9 years the franchise has been around, I've managed to die to propeller ink.

ok so finally had free time to play side order, using splatana a weapon i dont really know, and went for a drone build and holy shit items keep dropping and pearl is dropping bombs all over does he bloodthirst no know bounds? I got up to the final boss for the first time, usually I get to mid teens with other weapons

I wonder if it's just going to be a things now in every game that Off The Hook will have the annual DLC pack with the superior single player experience in every Splatoon game from now on.

Though, I have to say, as much as Pearl and Marina are my favorite characters and I love to see more content of them, I'd be fine if the next game's DLC gave us some similar character focus with Deep Cut instead. I feel like the main game and story mode mostly wasted something that had a lot of potential with those three.

I don't want them to outright replace any of the other groups, but I'll always be an advocate for Deep Cut getting more attention. Having them as the primary boss battles of ROTM was a cool idea, I don't dislike that, but in a game where Anarchy Splatcast had like five generic dialogues on constant repeat for eight months, it should not have been done. DC didn't start to grow on me until we got more hints of their characters with Daybreaker Anthem, the fleshed-out news dialogue, and the later Splatfest/Big Run conversations. Until then, it felt like they were being treated as bosses first and people second. Just that wacky miniboss trio whose personalities could be summarized in one sentence… for all three of them. It should go without saying this was a big step back from OE. Hell, it's a step back from Octo Canyon. That's kinda sad

I know it's Nintendo and they'll always try and prioritize fun games over games with good writing. But they can do both. Splatoon had hints of being both with the final battle of Octo Canyon, showed it could be both with OE, and proved it can still be both with Side Order. (Incidentally, has anyone noticed how both Pearl and Marina plots so far are Callie and Marie plots but better?) The fact is, people care about this series for its characters as well as its gameplay, and the strong negative response to Callie's role in Splatoon 2 plus the initial disappointment in Off the Hook — in both 2 and 3 now, I guess — and the general feeling of apathy toward ROTM's writing should have indicated that when there's a snub, perceived or real, fans will be let down

Does the game force you into teams with better players if you get strings of wins?

I got a freshness of 19.0 with the squelcher, followed by a string of losses so severe I dropped down to 7.5 (which would be lower if not for an unearned win where the dominating team had a disconnect, and a draw where my team, already losing badly, lost two people to disconnects and turned into a squid party).

What the fuck.

I have an urge to draw pics based on previous Splatfest events despite those being, well, over.

I have the opposite perspective. I think the new idol group being villains in the main story rather than heroes was a super interesting and novel idea, but the fact that they were just boss battles and nothing else undercut the idea. I feel like they should've had more presence: maybe appearing in stages, or being more of the cutscenes and so on and so forth, so that the bit in the end where they change sides actually hits.

Ultimately, they're barely characters in comparison to the other two idol groups.

That's not the opposite perspective at all lol. That's literally what I think of them. I do think later updates helped to flesh them out a bit

Why am I just now realizing how many possible chip bias combinations there could be?

Also congrats to Team Lightly Salted in Japan's Splatfest, guess everyone else is also watching their sodium intake too.

It makes sense that squid and octopi would be particularly careful when it comes to salting their food.

I am never picking another danger floor ever again. I got one that was no item drops and no pearl for a drone build with the splatling on the floor thats 3 portals and some islands surrounded by bounce floors meaning hardly anywhere to ink as is, let alone taking my killer wails and ink mines away.

Remember that if you keep skipping danger floors, you may eventually have all 3 options be danger floors.

If you get a danger condition you don't like, you can just go back to the elevator

Finally, losing streak broken!

I only had to drop from 19.0 freshness to 5.5 freshness before it ended.

Ouch. I'm reading a post (on a site that's blocked at work, so I'm reading it on my phone) on how the matchmaking system Glicko is likely responsible for the losing streaks that turf war players consistently experience. And that same system discourages learning how to use new weapons, and also throws new players into the fray.

I hope Nintendo learns from this for their next game, as I don't think they'll update this one.
