Anyone given Last Dream a try? I picked it up after a recommendation by a guy on Youtube who's made good recommendations before, and it's pretty neat. It plays like a mashup of the old-school 2D Final Fantasy games and definitely looks and feels like a JRPG from that era.

Interestingly, you're allowed to customize a crapton of things in the game. There are eight player classes to draw your party from (as in the first Final Fantasy), running the gamut from the standard meathead Knight and glowy-hands types like White Mage and Black Mage, and then a spread of utility classes like the Thief and Engineer, which aren't much good at fighting, but provide a lot of useful things for your group.

When you level up, you get a pile of AP that you can spend on stat upgrades, in a sort of point-buy system, with the cost for various stats being weighted based on your class; the meathead gets physical attack and physical defense at bargain rates, but he'll be paying through the nose to bolster his magic attack and magic defense stats. You also earn skill points, which can then be spent to learn both passive and active skills. In short, the system is setup to allow munchkin-ize to their heart's content.

It's available direct from the developer at http://whitegiantrpg.com/games/last-dream/ or on Steam. It's currently 50% off from both places, $10 instead of $20. Pick it up if you like the old-school JRP Gs!
