Cult of the Eternal End are community faction contest winner btw, hope the lore got better for the actual game tongue

I don't know what their story was before, but I just played a game with them and thought it was decent. The faction quest is narrated from the perspective of a recent slave who sort of becomes brainwashed by the Cult over the course of the game while constantly thinking that he's rebelling. It's a bit creepy, but the robot leader guys are portrayed as so unknowable and purposeful that you can sort of see why he starts thinking of them as gods. Even though from an outside perspective they're just dumb golems who don't know any better.

The Cult has only one objective: eradicate whatever's left of the Endless and their legacy. They're the consequence of a last ditch effort to bring peace between the Virtual and Concrete factions of the Endless, one that backfired horribly.

^^They seem to have pretty much same backstory, but written in less melodramatic manner and actually having better reason for existing than Endless trying to create perfect beings for some reason tongue I don't remember how it originally went, but first they created the queen as attempt for perfect being then the unspoken as attempt to improve upon that or something.

Also, I think they have slightly better motivation for wanting to eradicate Endless, but I might remember wrong.

For what I've seem, I think I will like this game. However, I've heard the AI is rather shitty and the enemy factions don't impose much challenge. Is that true? Should I wait for a some patches then?

So ummm, how do I upgrade districts?

My capital city is a huge sprawl around an inlet and its starting to weigh on moral.

[up] Well I know I still managed to get boned on normal, although that's probably just poor planing, while I can win Civs well enough Amptitude games seem to require more agressive colinization then I am capable of unless you want to drown in a sea of enemy units.

You have to surround a district with four others. The best way to do it isn't circular, it's with a two-hex wide stick formation. Settle somewhere open. Then pick one axis, either North-South or East-West. If you choose East-Wet, then settle the one hex west and the one east, then pick either North or South, and settle the two hexes on that side that are touching your capital. It costs you thirty approval points unless you find an anomaly to cover some of that cost, but after that fourth borough is built, the approval rating will start to rise by five each time. After that you just extend the line like a snake.

I just did two normal games to figure out the new factions and accidentally stomped through everyone else. The enemy doesn't seem to upgrade their units much.

Odd they did for me, at turn 100 the enemy was already on there 8th variation, with units that were rougly equal to my own.

@ Journey : Fuck :/

I... really dont like that system since it prevents creative city placment.

I know, I would prefer they allowed Borough upgrades to be a technology thing that just costs more than adding new boroughs. But I don't have issues with actually using this system, you just have to pick a very profitable direction to expand into and go for it.

It kinda screws costal cities though, which IRL were among the most profitable there were.

I like the borrow system in itself as it creates cooler cities in the game map. And requiring them to be close together made sense to me. My initial fear was that a "sneaking" city would be better (as each district ads more territory), but that is apparently not the case.

[up]Not quite. If I understood correctly it doesn't matter if you upgrade the main city tile or the burrow districts. The benefit is the same. As such, your city can be coastal all you want, as long as there is open space behind.

PS:Btw, here a guide I found about the subject. It explain why the stick design is the best one.

Doesn't it kind of encourage building along a coast? Way moreso than "giant block of city" would. Coastal cities are awesome in this game.

[up]You mean a straight line along the coast? That only works if the coast is straight enough, I suppose. Any turn would be detrimental.

So I've been playing a lot of Dungeon Of The Endless to get a bit of backstory to the series. (It doesn't really work THAT well, but the character blurbs and item descriptions are a hoot sometimes.) I've been getting better at the game bit by bit. It definitely takes getting used to. And I put this here because the two games came out close together and they're linked as direct sequel/prequel to each other.

So that's how you upgrade them. Huh. It does mean that you have to be certain that a resource is worth the effort before you start building towards it.

My favourites are the roamers. But I find there's a serious problem with the way their faction quest was designed: there's a step that will require you to take over an area before you can continue, and this is the one faction that literally cannot declare war on someone else. If you've outnumbered the opponent, they won't try to pick a fight with you, so you can't get any further on the quest.

If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television.

You mean take a city from another main faction? Because they can fight cold wars which allow them to take on the Minor factions.

Also, there's ways you can change direction, just examine the way your city's built, study it, and you'll figure out which hexes to take over to pull a 90 degree turn.

The "roamers" that is the Roving Clans require to remove the potential city from the region. You can do that using privateers (market bought merc converted to look like neutral) and they can attack and then raze a city of even your friends (there also an achievement for razing a friendly city this way). Too bad I disocovered that option too late after I gave up on finishing the quest. :)

Another thing that will annoy me is having to track manually what faction questline I completed for the achievement that requires completing them all. (Same in Dungeon of the Endless with winning with all 16 characters)

...and I thought the GPU super stressing only happens in my old machine...turns out it happens in my new machine too...at least it turns out that setting vsync to half monitor refresh rate helps...(good thing it's still 72fps for the game (I now have 144hz monitor)...won't be able to bear 30fps)

Use your save files to keep track of which factions you've beaten.

Or just try to remember what their final missions are :p I don't think it will be that hard to remember since completing faction quest line gives access to temple at earth's core wonder

There's a new expansion for Endless Legend now. Guardians. It adds super units, wonders, unique buildings, events and quests to the game. I just got it for the full ten bucks, so we'll see how it goes.

I haven't played Endless Legend in a while...Mostly because I have bad luck with amplitude games. Other factions end up building up militaries faster than me XD

The answer to that: Rush soldiers. tongue Seriously, that's the way to overcome that problem. Remember, income in these games shouldn't go to waste. As long as you're not going bankrupt, don't be afraid to run your income down to zero.
