How to write a sequel series fanfiction

In the past, I've often been one of those fans who wanted a show that ended to have another season. But in at least two cases, i decided to create a new show for the franchise, a fan-made sequel series for the shows, akin what the Ben 10 and Avatar franchises did, as well as the DCAU.

However, one has to ask how you make a sequel series to an existing show. It can't just begin after the point where the last show ended, it also has to continue the story and expand on itself (at least that's what i've come to think). For example, I'm currently trying to write a sequel series to a Disney show that i liked and i want to do what i can to make it great. I'm trying to make the stories more dark and serious toned, i've added a new villain, i'm hoping to create Greg Weisman-esque story arcs and i'm hoping to use this as a chance to answer some unanswered questions. I've even decided to give the some of the characters new designs.

There is another show that i thought had a lot of potential and am currently writing a second season for write now. But once that is done with, i've considered writing a sequel series for that show too. The only problem is, the show in question is a reboot of a classic show, how can you give a sequel show to a reboot of a show? Granted, Sabrina the Animated series (which was a spin-off of the original Sabrina the Teenage Witch) got a sequel series: Sabrina's Secret Life, but i just don't know.

Well for starters mate, if you want to do it justice then you'll need to do an awful lot of thinking and planning. TV shows are rich visual mediums and it would take a lot of padding and details to really capture the original vibe and build upon it. In short, might be a lot of work. I definitely wouldn't advise getting it down fast and then coming back to make small changes and adjustments.

Kudos to you for shooting for the stars, though.
