I went out of my way to check in between getting pounded into the dirt by Bloodlickers. There's really nothing worthwhile.

This thread really underestimates my need to kill everything and find all the stuff. tongue

Oh! Stuff in Cainhurst is weak to the untransformed cane, right? I forgot about hat.

Eat my Holy handclaw, crow of cainhurst. and right after rom, nontetheless !

You tell me how good your shiny katana is when you're getting riposted left and right.

Good thing he's bad at attacking when under the old hunter bone tho, because he's damn near impossible to pin down in that state.

Stuff at Cainhurst are weak to all "righteus" weapons. The one handed sword modes of Kirk Hammer and LHB should count too. And the Church Pick when transformed.

Pretty sure Bloodlickers are also weak to them, regardless of location.

Oh dear boy, ludwig's kicked my ass waaaaaaay too hard. I'm probably underleveled to do the dlc at that point. But I thought it would be fitting to do it before mensis. Ah well, I got my moonlight sword so I didn't suffered for nothing, and even with all the frustration piled up from the bloodlicker hell ludwig manage to be fun to fight.

Now to go back to mensis, then to do loran chalices and get so overlevelled I'm gonna make maria regrets she ever stood up from the chair we find her in.

Damn Ludwig kicks my ass every damn time. Well, untill he dies, that is, but you know what I mean.

Can't remember what level I finally soloed him for the first time, but I think it was pretty high.

Eat my handclaw, Maria, and tell me how hot your blood has to be to make it melt. It's funny the difference in design between her and gehrman.

Gehrman is old and so past his prime he doesn't even have quickening anymore but he makes up for it by having a bunch of unconventionnal attacks, either with weird openings that aren't easily parriable for the most part, or have guaranteed followups, and somehow doesn't ever let up the pressure despite having a much shorter theoritical reach than maria by sheer virtue of being much more agressive. He also constantly switches weapon stance so you can't easily learn the timings of his attacks.

And when you piss him off hard enough, he buffs himself and can offs you with the buff itself if you get caught in it, and then goes "Man, you're good at ripostes. Let's see if you're still good at it when I have hyper armor on" so now he's unstaggerable and unparriable, you're forced to either outdamage in a race that he can very much win, or actually learn his pattern and the dodges.

And on top of it he can force you into a riposted animation by virtue of waving his hand at you before shooting

His weakness ? he can't give enough of a shit to reliably buff himself past a certain hp trigger so it's perfectly possible to kill him with a riposte because he still didn't buffed. And he's also surpsingly incompetent at actually killing you with visceral attacks.

Maria looks as fine as she ever was and potentially even better since she didn't used a blood-based weapon when she was alive, is the embodiment of "backstepping won't save you, learn to dodge on the sides", is on perma hunter bone, is smart enough to always buff herself fast enough so you WILL have to deal with her last phase, has delayed hitboxes on the fire to mess up your timing and block ripostes on her last phase because y'oure stagerred at the critical moment and will give you a hard time to even find a second to heal.

Her weakness ? She uses the same attacks throughout the fight with just more effects slapped on them aside from the very short time where she trasnsform her weapon (that is skippable) and will proceed to then immediately go back to untrasnformed stance so if you can learn the timing in phase 1, you also have it on phase 2 and 3, her fire isn't a complete safeguard against visceral and still lets her be interrupted by bullets so you can either get free hits or heal yourself unlike gehrman who just plain stops giving a shit, and she doesn't know how to deal with stagger. Untransformed ludwig blade can combo her for as long as you have stamina on her early stages, and even later when she starts backstepping more often, she can't do anything if you can pin her in a corner an will just die there. gehrman wouldn't even let you get three consecutive hits on him anywhere.

On a completely different note, holy shit the moon presence was angry tonight. three hit killed me before I even blinked. Far cry from the first time I fought her with no vial and no Hp and still had to drop the controller to not go immediately in NG+.

Only the fishing hamlet and half of the chalices to go. And two ng+ cycles to platinum the game again but that's the easy part.

Well didn't you just said a few pages earlier in that thread that you didn't wanted to learn ripostes because you rarely do parries in games ? (edit : Okay I might mix it up with someone else actuallly) Because that makes absolute sense. The one thing gehrman has going for him is that his last phase is tailor made to force you to give a shit about his attacks past the tells for them. If you were already doing that before, his last phase doesn't change much. And it would make sense maria's buffs are more troublesome to deal with.

Wasn't good at parries the first time against her too and she kicked my ass more than any other boss in the game. Well, except for the orphan. I guess what I'm saying is more that there's no easy way to trivialize gehrman when there's at least one for maria rather than one is harder than the other, but if you don't use those anyway of course you'd find her harder than gehrman.

Just started this game. Going for a Strength build so I looked up some stuff and picked Violent Past and the Hunters Axe as a starting weapon. Any other tips would be nice,

Attack things back to heal.

Gun can knock down dogs and some other enemies.

Knocking enemies prone with gun (or "parrying" them) works from a slight distance away too, not just up close.

Don't neglect buying supplies when you can. If you got leftover echoes after upgrades, just buy blood vials and whatever else you use a lot.

I beat the Bloody Crow, and Martyr Logarius this morning!

Next step is to head into Yahar'gul until I find the key to Upper Cathedral Ward, then backtrack to explore that (as well as revive Annalise).

Just remember; if something (like a brainsucker) grabs you, mash the shoulder buttons. Reduces duration and damage.

Took a break after an hour. I got to the part of Central Yharnam with the 2 Scourge Beasts and died, then I lost those souls trying to get back to it.

Those things will die hard if you throw Molotov Cocktails at them.

Keep your distance, they're really strong.

[up]x2 Did you know you can just quit out the game if you get grabbed by a Brainsucker and you won't lose any Insight? I do it frequently because I'm a baby like that.

There's very little that is more satisfying than coming back through later and not worrying about Scourge Beasts at all.

I believe that shooting right after you finsih your combo can very often catch their counter attack and stagger them for a visceral.

Oh, and firing your gun doesn't cost stamina. Something to get used to when coming from Dark Souls where parrying does eat a bit of stamina.

yeah, quitouts during the grab animatiosn of the brainsuckers is a godsend. i'm just not dealing with that bullshit. for every other gar animation, mashing the should buttons can reduce the damage by an INSANE amount, so it's totally worth doing.

Scourge bests are weak to parries, but just run past them and go to the left, there's a shortcut around shrotly after that will et you take them on more easily.

Alternatively, don't try to pass them yet, go down the other side of the bridge, and explore down there to see if you can find something to give you a bit of a leg up (hint: a new outfit that actually has defensive properties).

Ok. I am in Upper Cathedral Ward, and I have the Orphanage Key.

No idea where the Orphanage door is, so I'm calling it a night. I feel like (barring another Darkbeast Paarl/Bloody Crow of Cainhurst scenario where I'm stuck for over a week), I have a couple more days left with this first runthrough. And I should have every (or nearly every) trophy besides the ones that are mutually exclusive (need two more runs for those).

Don't forget the dlc tho. The orphanage door is in the roof of the orphanage, behind the blue eyes werewolves.

So I’ve reached Ebrietas. She seems to have an unholy amount of defence. I have a +8 Threaded Cane, +6 Hunter Axe, and +6 Tonitrus. Which two are best to bring with me?

Tonitrus. Eldritch enemies take extra damage from electricity.
