Note that it is not actually about what children actually read (notice how the vast majority of those complaints don't mention any children actually borrowing these books), but about the ideas these books represent.

What children are reading or might read is just the cudgel these people use to get their censorship to take hold. It's about worldviews and ideas they don't like, because they don't conform with their religious or philosophical world view.

Okay, I love mazes, but a 10 mile corn maze seems a little much even to me.

It's not a proper corn maze unless getting lost for eternity is an option.
