Mouse fumbled with the bolt, trying to control her shaking hands. After a few moments too long she finally pulled the bolt free.

"It's all yours."

Charlie dragged the table to the truck back doors and positioned it so that they could hide behind it without getting hit by the continuous stream of bullets. "I had a look outside, I could see six men. There's six bullets in this," she said, removing the gun from her skirt waistline. "Do either of you want to shoot with me aiming, or shall I do it, bearing in mind I've never shot a gun before..." She looked at Sophia and Daniel, trying to read their expressions.

"You'd be a better shot than me", Daniel said. He'd never fired a gun either, or even held one for that matter.

He took one of the unopened cans of soda. Perhaps his muscle could be put to better use throwing things.

Charlie looked at the cans of pop, and then at Daniel. "There are black jeeps outside, tracking us down. If you could throw these cans at them, maybe throw them off balance, it may free up some bullets..."

"Got it."

Daniel took a quick peek outside to see where the jeeps were, and picked the closest one. He ducked back under cover and gave the can a vigorous shake with the intent of making it explode in a spray of soda when it hit something hard. It was then that he noticed the green coloration of the can, and it gave him an idea.

"FIRE IN THE HOLE!", he bellowed, before popping out of cover to throw the pop can. If he didn't manage to hit the driver in the head, he hoped that mistaking a harmless fizzy drink for a live grenade would throw them off course.

Charlie peeked outside and took aim at the helicopter pilot. Her hands were shaky, but her aiming was deadly accurate. Taking a deep breath, she aimed at the pilot's head.and squeezed the trigger, before ducking back behind the table. Even if she didn't hit her target, flying glass could still be used as a lethal weapon.

Peering out, she could see that her shot had hit it's mark. A small smirk crept across her face.

Incredulous at the children's bravery, willingness to kill and stupidity, the soldiers were for a few seconds, dumbstruck. That was, until the truck's rear doors, were opened, and the threat of getting hit by bullets shocked them into action, which was namely running to close the rear doors.

This was because, partly due to Daniel's soda throw, and partly Charlie's shot at the helicopter pilot (which while dead-on target lacked the range to penetrate the helicopter), the helicopter and two of the jeep's respectively, started firing at the truck's now open rear doors. The helicopter's machine-gun fire, and the mostly rifle fire of the jeeps, penetrating the table several times, and going freely into the space above the jeep, before the soldier's could get the doors closed.

However, thanks to the angle of the helicopter, and the trees, not many of the machine-gun bullets hit the truck, and Daniel's throw did distract one of the jeep's, causing it to swerve and hit a large oak tree and swing out of control.

A more pressing matter however, was the casualties. One of the soldier's took two bullets to the leg, keeling over in pain, and spurting a huge amount of blood, while another was thrown to the ground by several bullets thumping into his vest, and bleeding a little. Charlie's helmet was shot at twice, which, while doing nothing, formed a crack, was likely quite frightening, and made being inside the helmet uncomfortable. Daniel was also hit in a chest, in a similar vein to the soldier who had suffered the same fate. Furthermore, several soda bottles exploded, and the chairs were ruined. The driver was spared all of this due to the wall between him and the back of the truck.

One of the two surviving soldiers went to check on the one bleeding profusely, after a quick check confirming that the children were relatively unharmed. The second unharmed soldier, also turned out to be the one who had talked to them earlier, and with bulging eyes, he reprimanded the recruits, his face comically red with fury, and only just managing to leave out the swearing. "What the HECK where you thinking, trying to be heroes? Don't you think those soldiers risking their lives for you out there aren't enough, or you, without training would be better than them?! REALLY!? And how did you come to the conclusion that that table was bulletproof? If you were really determined to fight, we would've been able to kit you out properly, but NO, you had to go there with a WOODEN table and try to be heroes. And NOW we have a slight problem with one of YOUR guards. I hope you're happy, you FU-RICKING idiots."

Daniel was too distracted by the unexpected pain to register any of the soldier's words. The bulletproof vest may have stopped the bullet from puncturing skin, but the force of the impact still hurt.

Charlie yelped in pain when the bullets hit her helmet, causing it to crack. She couldn't feel any blood, but the pain was enough to make her hands fly to her head.

Sophia had thrown herself on top of Mouse when the counterattack had started. Now she got up and, there was no other word for it, stalked over to the soldier yelling at her companions. She knew they were in deep shit and concluded that the best defense was the last thing he'd expect, to go on the attack. Wearing her "angry face" she shouted at him as loudly he had shouted at Charlie and Daniel. "Maybe if you'd told us, the helicopter and jeeps were friendlies we wouldn't have shot at them! Maybe if you'd informed us a bit better, we would have panicked! Maybe you should have kept in mind that you recuited us for the very reasons your yelling at us!" Inwardly she cringed. Good bye Harvard Law Schcol, hello youngest prisoner at Leavenworth, she thought.

In a calmer tone she asked, "and what was a gun doing in here where we could find it anyway?"

The lead soldier frowned, "The helicopter and black jeeps aren't friendlies. I was referring to the green jeeps protecting us from the black jeeps, who are sacrificing their lives out there for you against our ambushers. And the fact that you just rather stupidly opened the door so they could fill this place with bullets."

Laughter rippled from the three other armed men. Still angry, the lead soldier snapped his head around and shot them a death glare. "Sorry Joey," The soldier who had been acting as a medic grinned at Joey, "It's just that the girl there is right. The helicopter and black jeep are friendlies. It's actually pretty clever, once you get down to it. And, no, I'm not joking. See, the "bullets", contain fake blood, which, while hurting, don't do anything unless they hit an artery, or your neck. And I presume that there's some sort of liquid that knocks you out if the bullet penetrates you. And our guns are exactly the same. So basically, this is all a training exercise."

Joey still wasn't laughing. "What, so you're saying that all this, trucks, jeeps and planes going down the drain is all for a training exercise? Really, Ryan, really?"

Ryan replied, "Yeah, sure, this place is being funded real big. Once we get to the lake, Julia will probably explain it all to us, or not. And besides, this place is too well protected for us to be attacked this easily. Now all's we have to do is say one of the kids got punctured in the artery and neck and they'll be here really quickly and call this off. And then we can surprise them. Sound good?"

For once, Joey smiled. "Okay, put the radio signal through, and everybody get up. Kids, we'll give you some flash grenades and some pistols, tasers if you ain't confident with a gun, and some shields. Then we're gonna show these people not to mess with us. You game?"

At the confirmation that this had been a test Sophia somehow managed to avoid saying "I told you so" to the others but she couldn't resist a grin. Aloud she said, "Charlie is our best shot and I can handle a gun. I don't think Mouse can and I don't know about Daniel." Then she went to Daniel and Charlie, still over by the table and whispered, "Keep an eye on Ryan. Just in case this is some kind of plot-in-a-plot"

Mouse stared through watery eyes at the unfolding scene. Ruined jeeps? Cracked helmets? Dented vests? Injured teammates? And all of it was some sort of joke?

Had she the power, Mouse's tears would have boiled in rage. She stood up on one of the hole-ridden leather chairs so she could just reach Joey's eye-level.

"Gimme something to hurt them with."

"You kids are seriously feisty over this. Well I suppose most of the newbies are once they work out they've been tricked. All's I'm saying is get used to it, because Julia can think up some wild things. Plus there's simulations that you know about. All of which look seriously real." Joey remarked, with a smile, enjoying his role as the experienced veteran somewhat, while he went through a compartment filled with weapons. After a few seconds of thought, Joey had laid four weapons on one of the chairs, in absence of the table.

"Okay, here's the plan. Daniel's gonna play dead, because he's fairly unique I reckon, and going for Mouse would be too obvious. And Charlie is our best shot, so your not playing dead. As for weapons, I'm gonna give Sophia a sub-machine gun, as she has experience with guns, Mouse a taser, pepper spray and some stun grenades, so there's no need to worry about recoil, and you can hurt them real bad, Charlie, a sniper, and if she can't handle that, or needs to get close, a back-up pistol, and Daniel's gonna get a pistol too. If you need, you can get some target practice now, just put on some mufflers."

The specified weapon was handed to each child, as were mufflers, and they were given a minute to practice with their weapon, before the plan came into operation. Meanwhile, Ryan shot a bullet into a baggy part of his bleeding colleagues uniform, confirming what was suspected as fake blood spurted out of the "wound".

Sophia, reassured now that the fakeness of the bullets had been confirmed, said, may I suggest that Mouse attack from concealment? Hiding seems to be one of her major skills. No offense," she added to Mouse.

Daniel held the pistol in his hand, noting that it was heavy enough to use as a bludgeon in an emergency, and aimed at a nearby target. Due to his inexperience with guns, the recoil took him by surprise, and he stumbled backward a few steps. And his shot didn't even land anywhere close. He shifted his footing for stability and fired a couple more shots, and some of them actually came reasonably close. He probably only had a fair chance of hitting a real target if he was lucky, but it was better than nothing.

After taking the mufflers from off his head, he said, "I can pretend to be shot dead for a while. And then what?"

Charlie gave a little nod. "Hey... If it's not too much hassle, may I have a knife? If I see someone at a distance and don't want to make a noise, I can just... You know..." She mimed throwing a knife, hoping that they picked up her hint.

"Sure," Joey told Sophia, reaching into the compartment and taking out a pistol, that he gave to her. Turning to Charlie he gave an apologetic shrug, before replying, "A knife will definitely harm them, and we're not going out to kill the medics now, they're just doing their jobs. We're just gonna go out and show them that we don't want to be messed with. But I can give you a silencer, which'll help."

Continuing on, Joey informed them of the plan, "Okay, people, what we're gonna do is have Daniel here lying on the ground, with loads of fake blood coming off of him, which we'll just use good old juice for. Then, when they come on board, we'll ambush them, all guns blazing, and Daniel, you can join in too. We're far enough away from the rest of the jeeps I think now. So, Daniel just lie down while we put some juice on you, 'kay?"

While Joey was saying this, Ryan made a call into his radio, and one of the others, who identified himself as Will, got to work decorating Daniel.

This taking barely a minute, everyone else was ushered into hiding, and the driver ordered to stop. Now all's that was left was waiting.

Not all of the black military jeeps had charged headfirst at the green ones. Two had tried to flank the truck, one of them getting lost, while the other came across the truck's easily identifiable tracks, and following it. On this truck were 5 soldiers, including the driver, and one Longwei Wong. The atmosphere was quite quiet, in anticipation of finding the truck.

Among being the only jeep to find the truck, this was also the only jeep which had had all of it's radios disabled somehow, whether through getting shot, lost, or running out of battery. As such, they didn't get the message that medics were going in, and kept up their pursuit of the truck. Meaning that when they got to the it, they wouldn't hold back.

The medics arrived quickly, two ambulances parking themselves next to their truck, but out of sight. Out of them came a dozen or so paramedics, all with bullet proof vests and helmets, two bearing a stretcher, while the rest various medical equipment. They were all armed with tranquilizer guns, just in case.

Most of the medics went into the truck, leaving only a couple to guard it. This was rather unfortunate as the ambulances' arrival coincided almost exactly with Longwei's jeeps arrival, and they were mistaken for guards.. Several bullets later, they were knocked unconscious and the squad on the jeep advanced onto the open back doors of the truck.

Wile this was going on, the medics' inside of the truck, were unprepared for the soldier's and children's ambush, more than of them gunned down before they could react, the two next to Daniel being the most shocked. The four left returned fire, and although they weren't as able as the soldiers, they still managed to land a shot on the unnamed one.

Then they were backed up by the squad from the jeep and skill didn't matter, the only requirement for not being hit pure, sheer luck, and total chaos ensuing, the truck rapidly being defaced and destroyed.

Wait?, she thought. My people? When exactly did they become my people? Nevertheless they had . Now all she had to do was get them to believe that. First things first though. Finding them, getting together with them and keeping their mutual asses safe.

Focus and be silent, focus and be silent, focus...ah to hell with it. Wei was mentally struck by the ensuing chaos. This was a supposed tug of war to teach the juniors a taste of the real world hazard. He had wondered wether if anyone of them was jaded as him or if he would have to deal with sunshine and rainbows.

Grunting so slightly due to the impact of several bullets in his body armor, and one small tear on his black suit, he neatly rolled out of the crossfire, hiding behind his own van to get additional protection from bullets.

The radio is dead, the medics were all shot, and this looks like we could have avoided this had we brought NEW BATTERIES. He chided himself as he panted, the rage of combat was an all time high.

Focus and think. He paused, and took a few breaths, not allowing the haze of battle muddle his senses. How do I stop a crossfire between battle pumped veterans and over-excited teens? He then eyed the fire extinguisher that was part of the safety kit of the jeep.

Gotcha. Moving quickly, he grabbed the extinguisher, and then some duct tape, which on vehicles was readily available. The ammunitions of the black team provided a third ingredient, in the form of flashbang grenades. And so, he quickly wrapped one of the flashbangs to the extinguisher's nozzle, hoping it had still enough force to break it open and scatter the contents.

"Fire in the hole." He blandly announced as he hefted the improvised artifact, releasing the safety of the pin, and then sending it flying towards the jeep where the crossfire was happening with a mighty throw.

"Fire in the hole!"

That was never a good thing to hear! Mouse had spent her ambush time spraying eyes and tasering knee caps and had managed to avoid trouble so far; aside from the bruises caused by the soldier's knees, shins, and feet, the little rampager was practically unscathed. The enemy had too many eye-level opponents to worry about, so she could sabotage as she pleased.

And then the grenade warning came. Instinct told her to dive out of the van, even if it was her only cover. Nothing she faced outside could be worse than a dozen firing troops and a grenade confined in a tight space. Sliding underneath a black-suited soldier's legs—and punching him hard in the groin as she did—Mouse tumbled out of the jeep and scrambled to a rear tire for cover.
