This thread is for those who have doubts working with these programs, those who want to show stuff they did on said programs, or who are simply interested in manipulating footage and pictures and so forth.

After all, some of the stuff in these programs is difficult to do or it takes a lot of time, so any help is great.

I have a doubt: does anyone know how to do face replacement (as in, removing my face and replacing it with a cat's face, for example)? Especially after rotoscoping and removing/copying the mask?

I think I'd start by using After Effects to track the motion of your face and then apply that motion to the cat's face. Then animate the shape of the mask to fit your face.

Also if your face changes perspective much (if you turn your head), you should have a picture of the cat's face in different perspectives to switch between. Portrait and 3/4 profile should be sufficient to get the idea across, but you can add more angles as you need, and warp it a little bit. You'd need a really big library of angles or a 3D model to get it perfect though.

And then you can do a bit of animation to make the cat's face blink, match anything you might be saying, etc.

Well, basically I had filmed my cat's face for 15 seconds. Then I filmed myself replicating the movements he made with his head and face.

I'm rotoscoping his movements and then I would hope to transpose it/copy the mask onto my footage, with a bit of scale and smooth transitions. Basically, my face would disappear and instead his face (and a bit of the neck, in order to not get jarring) would replace mine.

I'll see if the motion tracking serves me well. Thanks.[tup]

Ok, so basically I motion tracked and did some very basic rotoscoping to the cat's face. But now I want to tranpose/copy it to my video of me doing those movements in order to replace my face and neck with his.

Does anyone know how to do so?

You motion-tracked the cat video to get the mask to move with it? That's a step I didn't think of.

Put the cat video as a layer over the video of you (or pre-comp it and put the pre-comp over it), motion-track your face, and apply that motion to the cat layer.

[up]Ok. I'll try that tomorrow. Thanks once more.smile[tup]

Although, one thing: After doing what you said, is it possible to scale the cat face layer/mask down in order to match my face as good as possible?

Rescaling should be pretty easy. You ought to have the standard border around the layer, from which you can drag edges and corners. Drag a corner while holding shift to keep it from squashing.

Question: Where is the menu/sub-menu in After Effects that contains all the dissolve effects (both for text and video)? And how do I get there?
