Anyone have any thoughts?

To be quite honest, I've never liked his reviewes, and his defending of the original reveal of the Xbox One and saying that 1080p HAD to be the only standard for next gen games turns me off from him.

Who was he anyway? If he isn't Jim Sterling, part of the team that does Extra Credits, him that does Errant Signal or Yahtzee I'm not really interested, to be honest.

He's the reason a lot of people bothered to watch G4 while it was still around.

G4 is still around (Esquire Network replaced Style Network instead). Sessler was merely lucky enough to get out before the Network Decay took a firm grip on G4.

If it wasn't for Sess, half those guys probably wouldn't be in this field.

Sessler was the entire reason I bothered paying any attention to Rev3 Games. I've never agreed with all of his opinions in the reviews he made but I still appreciated his presence in the videogame industry.

I didn't think much of him until I saw his Soapboxes on one of G4's video podcasts, and listened to him debate with Jack Thompson in an NPR audio podcast about violence and sexual content in gaming, many years ago. Since then, I've grown to respect him, if not always agree with him. One of my favorite Soapboxes from him happens to be the one where he responded to fanboys that disliked his negative Crisis Core review, despite the fact that I actually like the game in the first place.

It sounds like the generic "it's been a wonderful honor to work with you all speech", so I think there's more to it then this. No idea what though, and I can't even picture where exactly would he fit in aside from the gaming scene, but good luck to him anyhow: I loved him, Morgan Webb, and Kate Botello while they were on G4 TV.

Well he never said he'd leave the gaming scene. He said he's gonna leave Rev3 Games for other opportunities *within* the gaming industry. What that is, I don't know (is he thinking of developing a game? Becoming a voice actor? Starring in some kind of Stephen Colbert-style satirical news show?).

[up]I don't ever see him producing his own game: he's never shown the programming skills for that. I don't see him becoming a voice actor either, he's never really had much acting flexibility, even on X-Play. But I suppose he might succeed as a comedian or satirist of sorts, the web's still got plenty of opportunity for that type of stuff and he was pretty funny in the past.

Could be he's joining a company to work in the PR or marketing department. Game journalists have done that before.

He was around for a long time but TBH I found him obnoxious as hell on G4 and hated X-Play. Seems like an okay dude IRL though, I think after he left G4 he became more likable, at least for me. Don't blame him for leaving the critic scene, hope he finds happiness whereever he's going, deserves it.
