The Viscount is one of the tougher bosses in The Crimson Court, at least to me. He doesn't have quite as much health as the Baron did, but he hits a lot harder. It might help to have some people who can riposte; riposting helped me on my second try against him.

... man, if he hits harder than the fucker who was already strong enough to massively outdamage my occultist with healing trinkets, i guess there's only one real option to win, out-damaging him, then. Granted, I fell for the trap of stalling the fight for the sake of producing heal that would be negated immediately instead of hitting the baron, but still. that or maybe tanking him with a man at arms.

The Viscount has another gimmick you need to worry about (spoilering just in case you wanted to go in blind): he can eat to heal himself. You have three poor unfortunate souls that he will chow down on every turn to heal himself. Depending on who he chows down on, he can recover more HP.

yeah I've checked that on the wiki - I made the mistake to take the baron for granted after the exploration, i'm not making that mistake again -. I also know that you can bleed and blight the corpses he eats to transfer him those and give him a fair bit of damage over time through it. not the most efficient way, but a nice karmic retribution

I mean if you can actually describe what colour madness is I think you have to be pretty mad - new DLC announced, planned for spring. Among other things, there will be an endless waves of enemies mode.

This is gonna be good :D We've already got things from other dimensions and things from below. Now it's time for things from beyond space.

So madness is a kind of cerulean/cyan shade. I knew it all along.

Fitting color; the first major DLC was red, the second one is blue. Definitely looking forward to seeing what they have to offer, especially since I really liked The Crimson Court DLC.

Okay, So I just killed the champion necromancer. Man he's something else than the veteran versions. Huge damage output, skeletons that can't be reliably one-shotted, furtivity everywhere... Good thing reynauld had that ungodly SEVENTY ONE hp to tank the whole world for the party. Meanwhile lucatiel the hellion had 33 hp. But necromancer's hiding at the backrow, and Iron swan started criting 38s left and right. Anastacia the vestal was clearly outdamaged, but not fast enough to let anyone reach death's door during the fight. I'm not looking forward to the rest of the bosses, considering he's usually the biggest pushover of the bunch.

two invitations for the viscount stocked, a few characters afflicted with the crimson curse... yeah, I'll probably have to start paying him visits after the next boss fight. I'm starting to have good roster of level 6 at hand, they'll be perfect for doing the biggest part of the exploration.

And now that i'm back, i get a chance to revive one of my dead heroes ! Yay ! that's fitting to what just happened ! Wait. My roster's full. And the only guy worth raising is my occultist Logan. He's on par with the lowest half of the roster, level 4, but who do i dismiss to give him a place and do I really want to reupgrade his whole skillset up to date...

I think I'll just stealthly rename my highwayman Father Gascogne to the Hunter, prented he's the one who came back from the dead while gascoigne's leaving to visit his family, and move on. [nja]

I wonder what sort of enemies we'll be fighting in the new DLC.

All party (save for a last group that will get there next quest) level 5/6 ! The hamlet is almost entirely restored. Looks like priorities are about to shift a lot.

Annnnnnnd viscount down ! First expedition was hard, we barely got to the blue door after getting the appropriate key to open it. Second exceeded all possible attempts. Two virtues and an occultist getting good heals means i could almost have pushed the party to the viscount, until afflications and lack of food caught up to me.

Third one was a mess. man at arms/leper really is an horrible offensive combination. good thing volke (yeah, as in fire emblem tellius) pulled the party.

Then came the fight against the viscount. I decided to make a bold move. You know what ? last guy outdamaged my healer like he couldn't do anything. So you know what ? I'm not briging any healer or support to this fight. Gherman,(highwayman) Friede, Lucatiel,(hellions) Lady Maria,(grave robbers) get in there and ruin his day.

... Well it worked surprisingly well I must say. good thing he had less hp than the baron, cause had the fight bdragged on a bit longer I'd have been in trouble. But a whole party of hard hitters that can hit from any range in almost any position really does wonders against him.

... You know, in hindsight, this fight wad the fight against the baron, but reversed. HE was the one spending turns to heal and I wad the one outdamaging him and cornering him.

Damn that's satysfying.

Oh and also, ran into the fanatic in a quest with a flagellant, 2 shieldbreakrs and an antiquarian. Oh man That was bad news. Good thing that he lacks any really damaging moves aside the cross. the team somehow survived and got 2 cures for her troubles on top of finishing the (short) quest. but getting that right before getting back to overwatch was NOT a pleasant surprise.

[up]exactly what i needed in my life.

So, picked the game back up today. Now i remember where I was. Two shieldbbreaker, my antiquarian, and a plague doctor lagging a level behind the rest of the roster. Every ancestor trinkets collected save for the map (hurray for one last showdown with the shambler anytime soon), the crimson court slowly rising up again, but not to the point of starting to drop invitations, and the final siren ready to be fought since a good while. Welp, might as well do that before getting the last four teammates up to level.

Turns out, I've never killed a Siren that fast, so I shouldn't have been so afraid of fighting her. The holy water trick gave me 3 free turns during which I shaved the two third of her life, and even once the effect wore off, she only got the highwayman once before going down. She also only summoned 1 dude for the whole fight, and summoned it so late I killed her before he got his first turn. Didn't had to heal even once during the fight.

Even the dungeon before her was surprisingly kind, with 5 fights at best between me and the boss and very few sidepaths.

Once again, lady maria and Friede proves that alternate self-cest in wincest.tongue

Looks like the prophet and the cannon are the two next in line.

Alright, finally finished the game. Spent a lot of time grinding the crimson trinkets of everyone and the shieldbreaker's diary's page.

All in all, the hardest quest of the darkest dungeon has been the first, surprisingly. but hey, it saved me the trouble to have to fight a shambler again since the shuffling horror drops his trinkets too. I breezed through the second quest because a man at arms in rank 4 spamming buff and guarding the occultist who wasn't immune to revelation is so goddamn potent you avoid so much damage it effectively acts as a second healer who negates both damage and stress while being thouroughly fuckin' invincible himself. that, and the flagellant abilities are so potent when it comes to self sustainability my occultist only had to worry about himself, and the hellion.

third quest looked like some weird chance accident. I meet my first white cell, it teleports me something like 3 rooms away from the objective, I find the objective, I kill the ennemies, quest over. Guess I got lucky on my white cell kills.

last quest was a throrough beatdown coming from people wayyyyyyyy too salty to lose to the final boss. I had dismas and reynauld equipped with trinkets sets that gave them respectively 70 and 75% chance of virtue along with a vestal and an arbalest. The boss spend hiw first 2 phases focusing on the vestal and trying to break her... and then she passed her resolve check like a champ and with a stalwart virtue.

I mean, why play the music of the game during that fight when this happens when you're listening to STALWARTS UNITE ?

The boss should've seen it coming tho. you don't break someone who's called the fire keeper. You ain't got shit on what you can see in Lothric, man.

(I'm dying to make a bloodborne joke instead but the doll is still very much an antiquarian and I don't bring antquarians to a boss battle. I know some asolute madman did it with 4 of them, but I'm not that mad)

Two come unto you maker later, the boss decides to stress Reynauld... And the rng decides to do the predictible thing for once : give me a powerful virtue. I'd make a deus vult joke, but considering I have fire emblem music in the background, i'll settle for I MAKE MY OWN FATE !

Sooooooooooo, al in all, i believe the hardest fight of the game for me was the baron fight ? really got caught off guard by that man. comparatively, the viscount and the countess went down easily, vvulf got lucked out without a man at arms... the shuffling horror may compete with him.

I also built all buildings, so all that remains is to wait for the next DLC to come out... and hopefully, pull two more "resurrect a dead character" events so I can welcome back the two victims of come unto your maker and give the final middle finger to that boss tongue

Great game, but i'm never doing stygian mode. No thanks.

So remind me, when does Color of Madness come out?

Well, my first attempt at this game could have gone better. First the Plague Doctor ended up somehow being the only adventurer in my starting four with a healing skill, then I accidentally went into the Darkest Dungeon for my second quest with a party of level 1s and 0s. I... don't think I'm very good at this game. tongue

Don't worry about that last bit, it's for the ACHIEVEMENT.

Bring all the food you're allowed to buy, and like 6 bandages and 6 antitoxin (less if you've got a Plague Doctor who can just cure bleeding or blight with Battlefield Medicine anyway). That should keep your people alive through Short-duration dungeons.

Good to know. I've started to more or less settle in after wimping out and starting a new playthrough (where I got a Vestal who could ACTUALLY FREAKING HEAL), I think, though I did just have my first casualty of this game in the Weald. Sorry for pushing through without a healer, Man-at-Arms #1, you will be missed until the moment Man-at-Arms #2 is ready to take your place. x3

The bit about a vendor only accepting comet shards is interesting to me. Kind of reminds me of Mordheim: a comet smashed into the Earth and does horrible things to people, and now we're picking up the shards so we can get more good stuff.
