Has any creator ever been murdered over a work?

I have heard of journalists getting death threats when they report on drug cartels, but what about authors and other creators?

I have never heard of stories where an author was presumably assassinated by a drug cartel, a mafia family, or some other criminal organization.

Nonetheless, I remember in a QA in the English Shonen Jump regarding the manga, Katekyo Hitman Reborn, that Akira Amano mostly definitely made up the protagonist's mafia family because who would want to risk the "wrath of the mob".

Is this for a book? Or are you yourself possibly getting into this sort of situation?

I can think of at least one case where it was attempted. Though the root of the problem in The Satanic Verses was religious, not criminal syndicate related.

Possibly the latter, if I want to mention real terrorist organizations being the enemy of the week on multiple occasions.

Oh, I think you'll be okay; if terrorist organisations went after every writer who ever mentioned them in a negative context, they'd never do anything but kill journalists.

Okay what about drug cartels and mafia families?

I suspect image is the last thing they would worry about, but then again who knows.

Well, if you're living in a South American country, I'd worry, but they have more serious issues in most other parts of the world.

Similarly, the mafia generally has better things to do unless you're on Corsica or Sardinia.

I wouldn't be surprised if they had. People kill eachother over the silliest things.
