It did it! Top 4 and getting close to top 3!

I somehow doubt that it will pass The Avengers. It has a chance, but it mostly did so well because of China. The money is still tickling in, but that's quite a bit ground it has to cover. And Mad Max is now the newest offer for that segment.

It has a chance. All it needs is another $18 million.

Time for a Furious 8 thread soon I think. Oh, and F&F7 is even closer to The Avengers now.

Let there be necro, because I watched the movie during a flight and holy balltastic, this movie was awesome.
So sadly, Furious 7 never managed to defeat The Avengers in terms of box office...
...HOWEVER, it did manage to beat The Avengers 2, which came out of this year and as a result the second highest grossing movie of this year and 5th highest grossing movie of all time.
It made me wonder: Does anyone remember what people's reaction was when James Wan of all people were chosen as the director? I'd imagine pretty much nobody...saw it coming.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Saw this just yesterday.
All those stunt... Reality Subtext and less than funny anneurysm moments abound...
But damn, those last few minutes.
I gotta wonder what they originally planned for Brian's character. Was he really going to continue getting into crazy situations like that if Paul Walker had lived? The way they did things just feels right.

One Strip! One Strip!I also saw it recently. Brian's departure from the series felt natural to me. Had his son been introduced in the interim between 6 and 7, it might have felt phony, but that thankfully wasn't the case. Although the introduction of a daughter to the mix did strike me as a bit artificial, like the writer really wanted to hammer in the point that Brian should stay home and be a family man. Otherwise it felt like the timing was right. You can only keep an action hero dad and feature scenes of him calling his wife, who was once a prominent player in the series, for so long before it feels ethically questionable and monotonous.
I feel that the efforts to conceal Paul Walker's abscene in some of the scenes went well. I'm not too good at identifying doubles but I am quite sensitive to when CGI is used and I must say I was impressed that I did not notice it. The one possible exception might be at the very end, when Brian asks if Dom was leaving without saying goodbye. That hazy shot of him in his car looked dodgy, which is a bit of a shame because it along with Brian/Paul's farewell was heartwarming.
I actually liked the hazy, obviously CGI Brian at the very end. The Special Effects Failure gave him a sort of heavenly glow which worked perfectly with the ending's Reality Subtext; instead of Brian, it looked like Paul Walker himself descended from the afterlife to say goodbye.

I could list all the reasons why you should check out this franchise but I don't have to because Cracked writer Daniel Dockery already did it for me.
But the short version is, it utilizes a beautifully diverse cast of characters to weave a story that is honest and open in its emotional heart, while being sincere and unapologetic in its action sequences. The characters come from a wide range of races, female characters are meaningful and contribute to the story, the central theme of family knows when to be soft-spoken and when to get loud, and at no point do the films ever feel that they need to apologize for being an action franchise.
