So the word now is that this film is coming out in 2016? Does that mean it has swapped release dates with Zootopia?

Zootopia is earlier in the year, I think.

What happened to Giants, though?

Big Hero 6 isn't one word.

This title makes a bit more sense than the previous ones, being the protagonist's name and all.

If the lionesses had killed Scar before Simba arrived then there'd be no males left to, well, produce cubs. They'd much rather not drive themselves extinct.

I've missed a lot. So what exactly is this movie's premise, as far as we know?

Wasn't Brenda Chapman booted off the final version of Brave?

[up][up] Wow. That's a quite reasonable AND possible thing. The only thing that prevents it from being my head canon is that UGH RAPE.

[up][up] IIRC, she was kept on as co-director and most of her ideas made it into the final version.

@Tucker: The synopsis indicates that it will involve the sea and Polynesian folklore extensively

@Coco: Let's not.

[up]Ah. So we still don't know all that much yet. I look forward to seeing our wild speculation.

[up][up][up]Well, in the musical he was getting pretty aggressive towards Nala in "The Madness of King Scar"...

[up][up]

This is the extent of it. We have a demigod apparently.

"In the ancient South Pacific world of Oceania, Moana, a born navigator, sets sail in search of a fabled island. During her incredible journey, she teams up with her hero, the legendary demi-god Maui, to traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds and ancient folklore."

And it's apparently cel-shaded. I'm going to get a lot of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker flashbacks.

I think that Chapman made really good movies. I also think that she should never do a Disney Princess project ever again, because she has the wrong mind-set for it. If you do one, even one which modernizes the concept, you have to like what came beforehand in my eyes. I am not sure if Moana is supposed to be a Disney Princess line-up candidate (princess or not, it is a movie about myths), but I want a movie about a female protagonist, not a statement (which is what bothered me about Pat F, Brave and Frozen). And I hope that Disney delivers this time around.

I don't fee like Frozen was a statement...well okay yes it is, but it doesn't bother me because of the new things it brought to the table.

Also TLK never said anything about Nala being some strong independent Lion. And yeah, pride dynamics dictate that only another male can challenge the pride leader. Also Hamlet. The women don't do much in Hamlet 'cept die.

Also, Merida. Yes she's annoying, bratty and self-centred, but she's FIFTEEN. It works because that's how teenagers are, IMO.

[up] That's why The Little Mermaid works. But I really hope that there aren't many teenagers out there who would gleefully poison their own parents, and I have enough faith in the current generation to believe that most of them would not need a whole movie to realize that they have made a mistake when they turned their own mother into a bear.

I hope that however they write Moana, that they won't go for the "modern teenager in old times" angle, but instead try to go for a character which would fit in this world.

I think they described her as a nerd in one article, so I'm not holding out hope for that.

Little Mermaid works for me because it's clear that Ariel does love her father despite their conflict. With Merida, I never really believed that. Perhaps at the end, but she'd made herself irredeemable to me long before that point.

[up]I believe both Mermaid and Brave had some similar moments, like the "parent destroys daughter's valuable possession and feels incredibly guilty about it".
