Not written by me. We also have a tropes page for it. I would suggest reading the first chapter, and skipping the summary entirely, for the full effect.

Challenge of the Superfriends: The End, written by Denizen1, from what I've read, is the campy Superfriends cartoon mixed with Lovecraftian horror. While I have read little-to-none of the works of H.P Love Craft, I've gathered a basic understanding of the cosmic horrors that the author created. I've seen them implemented in filsm like It, and in fan fics like the long-lost Ed Ed n Eddy fic, Eddward, and now, this one.

I certainly didn't wake up this morning thinking I would be reading a Superfriends fan fic, but here I am.

From the get-go, the draw-in is the astonishing imagery we get. I've never watched an episode of Superfriends, though I've seen parodies of the Legion of Doom and the Hall of Justice. I can recognize the details the author put in to describe the Hall of Doom.

A shrill cackle echoed through the swamp, followed by the cooing of a bird. Somewhere a witch was laughing. I love that part.

I'm not exactly a big fan of horror, but there's something about Lovecraftian elements getting put into a fan fiction that entices me. It's like the exact opposite of a "Godlike[insertcharacterhere]" sort of story; the sense of dread wells up right from the beginning. Reading about doom is a lot more interesting than reading about all-mighty arrogance.

Hardcore, fanfiction-writing fans of "anything" continue to amaze me.
