I got that impression as well. Miyamoto is the kind of guy who wants the game to be as perfect as possible the first time, rather than just fixing it later to get it out on time.
One Strip! One Strip! As for my opinion on Inafune: I liked Soul Sacrifice. That was good. So was its Updated Re-release.
The ingredients for MN 9 were all there. But I agree with the consensus: too much ambition and mismanagement spoiled everything.
The devs have shown their talent with Megaman Zero and other MM like games, Inafune has proved his worth on many occasions - contentious executive decisions at Capcom aside - this game should have been more.
I think you want "than release" rather than "then release" otherwise you're screwing context up.

Er, I think you misread my post. As you can see, I have not edited it.
@3675 I totally appreciate that, but man, I'm in the MOTHER fandom (to the extent that I preordered Mother 3... from a US address) - I mean, even if it isn't the full continuation you've been hoping for, at least you've gotten some Kingdom Hearts games in the last decade. And they get released here, too.
In all seriousness, I think Miyamoto's quote assumes that the delays are used to actually fix the game. For as much as I think MN9 has potential (still), I really wish some of that stuff had been worked out (Dynatron's stage still annoys the heck out of me).
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Well, if we are to believe Comcept, that was their intent with later delays. The whole "glitch in multiplayer" thing might have been a cover to fix other bugs in the base game (but probably has some truth in it, the multiplayer is barely functional as it is), but mostly, it was because they bit more than they could chew. Comcept was unprepared to deliver all of the stretch goals, especially later on in the KS when they were making up new stretch goals and meeting them quickly. The early delays were probably because they needed the extra time to design the extra levels, free "DLC", and everything they promised. It's telling they are just now delivering the last of the physical rewards, getting all the extra stuff in the game came first.
And of course, through all of these delays, people still needed to be paid, which ended up with them running out of money. Was there mismanagement? Most probably. Should they have been more realistic with stretch goals and content? Absolutely. But I do think the base game has a lot of potential, both gameplay and story-wise, but they spread themselves thin and it sadly shows.
Shovel Knight really is one of the best examples of how to handle extra Kickstarter content.
And the worst delays for any franchise ever? Apart from maybe Duke Nukem Forever, my personal pick would be Half Life. It's been a decade since the last entry was released and we still know pretty much nothing of what's going on with. And the last "full" game was 13 years ago, if memory serves.
Yeah, the Mother 3 situation sucks, but I will say this: the game exists and it's possible to play it. Not in the ideal way, but if this topic has taught us anything, I think it's that things can always be worse.
Kingdom Hearts is doing well, honestly. Hell, they released Kingdom Hearts III Ground Zeroes earlier this year.
I don't normally get annoyed at delays.
I get annoyed when I see an early version of a game, get attached to it, and then it changes. I would rather only see a game before release when I know that's what I'm getting, like Bloodborne, I suppose, or Nie R Automata.
According to Yong Yea, Fangamer were not to blame for the atrocious physical rewards. They had to wait on Comcept giving them the assets they needed.
The thing that might have been their fault is the oversized manuals, which they've resolved and apoligised for by sending out replacements.
So it seems to be another case where we should blame Comcept and it's OK to like Fangamer.
Thanks for for the update.
I have a message from another time...Eh... I'm not saying it's wrong to blame Comcept (after all, those physical rewards were pretty late), but Fangamer has to take some of the blame. The dimensions for a Famicom box are not exactly state secrets; they should have been prepared for that well ahead of time.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Again, it might have been their fault. I don't know what happened over there to cause this mistake. And, again, they resolved it and apologised in the way they should have. They are only human, so I can accept one or two mistakes, especially after everything they seem to have had to contend with. It may be that in the rush to compensate for Comcept's being slow, there was an oversight. I can forgive that. If this were a very common thing, I wouldn't forgive it.
My source is Yong Yea, who is very vocal about his dislike for Inafune and his practices. So take what I have presented as you will.
Honestly, what does it matter at this point?
The entire thing was a clusterfuck, and Comcept hung itself from the get go.
One Strip! One Strip!I guess Concept figured with rewards it was better (late) than nothing, huh?
Still waiting for a Legion of Losers movie...Like a comic book fan on prom night.
Mileena MadnessLife's good when you cry like a ninja block on prom night.
Fear the cinnamon sugar swirl. By the Gods, fear it, Laurence. It matters to me, a little, because I don't want the fingers pointed at the wrong people.
And let's not shit on Comcept as a whole. Just this nonsense they have wrought upon us. I'm sure many good people work at Comcept and I still like Soul Sacrifice. I have hope that Inafune and his team can redeem themselves.
I suppose it's possible, but it'll be an uphill battle.
You know the internet. Never forget, never miss a chance for a Meme.
One Strip! One Strip! The internet has a memory of a goldfish.
Where there's life, there's hope. Not if they find enough entertainment in something they don't.
Cry like an anime fan on Prom Night can still be milked for jokes for years.
One Strip! One Strip!Who even did that trailer?
Someone who hates Infafune I'd guess.
Maybe the same guy who hired the It's better than nothing translator.
One Strip! One Strip!I think the translator's name is Ben Judd. He's also working with Iga on Bloodstained. I liked him on Bloodstained. Do you think we've got a bit too worked up about that quote? It's been taken out of context pretty hard.
I am framing my displeasure for Comcept in context of what they actually set themselves up.
Comcept is a company that creates ideas and concepts, whom they subsequently hand out to other companies to actually develop. I.e. Re Core was Armature Studio and No. 9 by Inti Creates.
So their responsibility for the flop is only partial.
But it is a responsibility nonetheless.
We can't know how much direct oversight he had, but it does not actually matter.
As just one example, they should've known better than to let the "crying anime fan" trailer to roll out. Seeing nothing wrong with it and not getting a chance to see it is merely two different kinds of failure.
Also, the "its better than nothing" quote is not meaningless. Having a translator that adds his own dumb shit in is just another fail to manage the proceedings.

Deep Silver did that awful trailer. But Mighty Gunvolt Burst seems to be improving the franchise's status, if the YMMV page is any indication.

The Protomen enhanced my life.
I actually looked into that quote and Miyamoto has slightly clarified it in that he would much rather delay a game he's working on then release a sub par product, otherwise he'd regret what he put out. It's more of a personal philosophy than a hard rule he thinks everyone should follow.
