I tend to be cautious of actively disliking creators for making bad stuff.
I may blame Inafune for his Donte's game mishap, but he's probably a nice guy in real life. Just misguided.
Frank Miller is a piece of garbage, though, what with his sexist, racist nonsense.
I want him to redeem himself. I always like a good redemption story.
And speaking of From, while they have very western seeming concepts, a lot of them are based on Japanese culture. Demon's and Dark Souls, for instance, are heavily influenced by Berserk. Of the games of their's I've played, the most Western is Bloodborne, and even then there's a very "Japanese" (for want of a better word) design philosophy to their games. They feel very different from, say, The Elder Scrolls or The Witcher, at least in modern times, is what I'm saying. I could probably talk about From design for years, to be honest.
Anyway, back on topic.
I like Brand's sword in MN 9. That's such a fun weapon.
...Just want to say something nice about the game.
At least Resident Evil can recover, being the megafranchise it is.
Wait, what? Didn't Inafune only direct the first DMC and then went straight to Bayonetta?
Hmph.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Infune never directed a DMC game, but his push towards Westernisation created Donte's game, crippling a beloved franchise for no reason for many years.
EDIT: I think you've mistaken Inafune for Hideki Kamiya.
A glorious bastard if there ever was one.
On the topic of Platinum, while they don't sell the best, they are respected, and that respect gets them work. Publishers know they can get some respect points for working with Platinum, hence Scalebound and Nier Automata.
And they make enough money to stick around. Also, game sales aren't the only measure of financial success. The Merch is very important. The first Nier, for example, did make money, and, according to Liam Allen-Miller, it was thanks to merchandise. And Bayo has a glorious amount of Merch.
Anyway, Inafune believing Jap developers should Westernise was a mistake and I still think instant death traps are an outdated game design element.

You seem to have mixed Inafune with Kamiya. At least know about Platinum Games before dismissing them.
Inafune is the guy who made this game and caused DMC to turn into Dmc.

Oh, that's embarrassing. Well, I also didn't know Inafune had anything to do with DMC/DmC.
I dismiss Platinum Games because I'm not in love with Revengeance or convinced it made Platinum god-tier.
They make appealing action games, but they typically have paper-thin stories and few have any replay value. Vanquish, Bayonetta 1 and 2, Mad World and Anarchy Reigns, Legend of Korra. Exceptions for Wonderful 101 and possibly Nier Automata.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Didn't the guys that formed Platinum Games make Okami and Viewtful Joe?
The Protomen enhanced my life.Wasn't counting those since they were Clover back then but yes, Okami and Viewtiful Joe. Never heard bad things about the former, but the latter was good for two of its four installments, the others games were ported spin-offs. The first two games had serviceable plots and some replay value with unlockable characters, yes.
Rounding out their six games, they also did God Hand, which was basically an excuse to run around and beat people up with divine martial arts for 3-4 hours.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!@Soble: You do realize most Character Action games aren't meant to have deep stories, right?
Watch SymphogearI highly contest that.
Non Indicative UsernameHow about they don't need an in-depth plot if the gameplay can justify it? Though, I wouldn't say the likes of Revengeance and Bayonetta lack depth. Its there.

Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireI don't plan on getting this anytime soon, but I would like to check this game out in the future out of curiosity.
Honestly, I'm kinda bummed out the game turned to just be mediocre and meh. It's what I was predicting several months ago, but I wanted to be proven wrong. I wanted it to either be a massive shitshow or it to be actually as hype as some thought it would be. But no, it's just... OK. And to me, that seems worse. Sure some things about it can be seen as objectively awful, but a few months from now, I bet the hate will die down and the game will mostly be forgotten by most people. The game's not bad enough to be up there among the ranks of shit like Superman 64 or Sonic 06. Most people will probably more remember the awful build up before the game then the lukewarm game that we got.
My Tumblr "If theirs one thing I'm good at, it's blowing" Jesse Cox 2013That's pretty much what happened. About a week or so after the releases everything about it is quiet.
The Protomen enhanced my life.I keep seeing Red Ash34 and Call fanart/cosplays but know next to nothing about it. And then Mighty no 9 was supposed to have a TV show which for all I know was cancelled.
I mean it's like if after Episode III, Lucas said, "we're going to reboot the entire universe and turn it into a spaghetti western!"

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Yeah, maybe I'm just not seeing it, but I rarely hear much about the game besides a few people let's playing it. I wouldn't be surprised if by the end of the summer, people have mostly forgotten that the game ever existed.
Wouldn't be surprised if the show did get canned with how vitriolic people's thoughts on the game had gotten. Plus Mega Man getting his own show probably doesn't help much either.
My Tumblr "If theirs one thing I'm good at, it's blowing" Jesse Cox 2013Once again, mistakes were made.
Alas, poor Beck! I knew him, TV Tropes.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Platinum Games have amazing dumb arse stories though.
I like Vanquish's bizarre quasi-political-maybe-it's-satire-or-parody-but-no-one-can-tell-for-sure.
You know, I've actually heard one usually semi smart guy refer to MN 9 as "the Sonic 06 of Mega Man games," which is Wrong On So Many Levels.
Still, Mega Man X7 is so much worse than MN 9, I think we should appreciate just how bad things can get and have a little perspective.
Often times, smart people are wrapped up in nonsense such that it blinds their brains.
Careful. That sounds a lot like It's better than nothing. And we all know how well that went.
One Strip! One Strip!I'd say X7 is more functional than 06. Although I absolutely love 06 soundtrack. It's probably my favorite video game soundtrack of all time (until Sonic and the Black Knight anyway).
Non Indicative UsernameNot every game needs to have some super well-written story to be good, and in fact most games don't. The story is not the focus of their games most of the time, but at the least it's usually enjoyably campy and hilarious. It's like criticizing an italian restaurant for not having chinese food on the menu.
Also X7 is bad, but it's not embarassing like 06 is.

Is this just a complaint thread at this point? Because now that I see someone trashing my opinion just because I think Mighty No. 9 is okay and Mega Man X7 is mediocre-to-bad, and the theme of the last several posts is "dump on Inafune," I'm starting to wonder if this thread has outlived its purpose.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster. So what's the deal with the first form of Trinity and her 'Yellow Devil' move? I've seen multiple L Ps and each one seems to have a different pattern for her attack. Is it system based? Difficulty based? Or is it completely random and locked in on the game version linked to your account? (So that each person gets their unique pattern, which would be cool)
I shall attempt to add a little positivity into proceedings.
EDIT: OH GODDAMN- I meant to say "better". MN 9 is objectively better than X7. Very sorry for my screw up there.
I have also heard that, but have not been bothered to fact check. A little trivia, though: Apparently, Brand's sword can enable one to just sort of pass though those blobs no problem. It may seem strange, but it makes perfect sense considering Brand's sword is the MVP of the MCU.
Does anyone have a favourite boss? I actually rather liked fighting Brand myself.

I'm going to address this in a PM to keep from going dramatically off-topic.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!
I can't really find it in myself to muster any strong emotions about this, and for better or worse I feel ticked off when people do. I paid $20 years ago and eventually got a somewhat subpar game, sure whatever. Not all investments are going to pay off: that's just the nature of the beast. I feel like demonizing Inafune doesn't really help at all when his work speaks for itself. I'm certainly not especially excited for anything he's doing in the future, although honestly I wouldn't really mind a sequel to MN9 either.
