Gee, I wonder why people would think the Person who got the 'I'll show them all!' line is evil?

I mean, I'm completely down for White bring the villain in the sequel. That would be pretty great, actually. If he goes on a mad science bender and makes more Mighty Numbers, then that's a perfect plot to use, really.

I actually like that Blackwell and White are reasonable positions taken to extremes

Blackwell urges caution and sees the danger in DANGEROUS things. But he was apparently so cautious he created a shut down switch for EVERY robot.

White is so far enmeshed in think of the potential that he's still salty that his assimilate everything machine was rejected for being dangerous. He's basically a mad scientist. On the other hand, Beck really is a huge innovation that could change the world

I think the game fundamentally has too many characters for its simple plot (we don't need 3 different scientists and a businessman), but there's nothing wrong with the basic conflict it sets up between White and Blackwell. And I don't see why White being portrayed as a mad scientist is supposed to be a bad thing for the story.

cause the mighty numbers and trinity's existence creates some horrifying questions that shouldve have been expanded on. like, after she was decommisioned, why wasn[t there more restrictions on what could be added to battle coliseum robots? Surely something like this would be known to the US govermentm right? Whites design for the mighty numbers give him plenty of reasons to restrict what could be installed into the machines.

edit: heck the above could've helped with the mad scientist thing he's got going on, too!

Why would you assume the government knows? Blackwell pulled the plug on the project before it went anywhere. Not even the president of the company knew exactly what it was.

Three questions; Two about Ray and one about White.

If Inafune confirmed Ray is Mighty No. 0 but it isn't said anywhere else in the actual game...What could be said about this?

Does Ray need '"The Cracker" trope on her character page? Her data get powers, how she does her debut by hacking from Cherry Dyn computers, and her "bows" are actually extensions for plugging into ports to hack as explained by the official site... Tried to add that but it got deleted. I can get how since she only uses it to find Dr. White and nothing else but I am confused to add it back with more explanation or not.

And if Dr. White did become the villain in the sequel, I wonder if his creations will make him see the errors of his ways or he'll just be thrown in jail like his old man. I can see Blackwell going all: "I told you so." I wonder...What even made White to begin his determination like that? I mean, he straight up ignored his father's wishes.

Conviction and determination are only one step removed from obsession. Get a science guy obsessed with making "the future" with robots and it tends to lead in one specific direction.

I have to say, having not played this game that the story already sounds a lot more interesting than Mega Man.

[up] Most of the deeper story is just before, during, and after the final level. Ray's story is much deeper, but also more confusing.

A lot of reviews felt the story was either silly/childish, unnecessary or tacked-on XD;

I feel like a lot of the deeper story stuff is just set-up for a sequel.

That sequel may not happen. Not until a lot of time has passed to get around the internet rage.

In the meantime, Comcept has to knock it out of the park with whatever other projects they have.

Given that their next project, ReCore, has design by Inafune (his strong-suit in my opinion), but is being headed by the lead who gave us Metroid Prime...

It might help.

Wow the zero and zx series really didn't sell well did it? its always classsic mega man when someones comparing mighty no. 9

edit: I think you guys got it mixed up, because you're saying the characters are the interesting one, not the story itself. The reviewers are right a good chunk of this game is very kiddy and tacked on. its only after you beat the mighty numbers that the story itself and the backstory behind the world become more mature and intresting.

Also you do not have to try hard to be more interesting than the world of classic mega man. mighty no. 9's boss dialogue puts more personality into their characters than anything in the classic series...and most of x.

edit 2: A lot of people seem to find the game too easy or too hard. the latter reason may be why some people say the story sucks. you have to listen to that dialogue over and over if you die.

Mighty Number 9 has a decent story.

It does feel like a lot of connective tissue is missing.

I doubt a sequel will ever happen. Even if it turned out solid, the majority of the audience very likely would not buy it out of principle.

I dunno. I think people would come back if the sequel showed some polish. Genuine spite is actually hard to come by. People are generally fickle enough to sway when something seems appealing.

I'm not so sure about that. This isn't just a case of a developer pulling some misguided design decisions, like SEGA did with certain Sonic games. It's a game that was announced as a passion project, and instead turned out to be a product as listless and devoid of given fucks as could be. Which is nothing short of insulting to a lot of people who backed the game. Another kickstarter would be a surefire, abject failure.

You're only assuming a sequel would be made on another kickstarter. I think the kickstarter for the first one was as much advertisement as attempting to fund the thing. Once Comcept manages to get a few successes on their list, they may not have so much trouble finding funding through traditional means.

Maybe. Mighty no. 9 probably won't make enough money back to make even. It's all on Re Core now.

I doubt this game will ever make remotely enough money to finance a sequel without investments from a third party. The audience is already very niche, and further diminished due to the game's quality. As loud as the hype was in its echo chamber, this isn't a game half the world had been waiting for.

On the story, I like it, but I think the presentation manages to detract a little? It plays a little too close to its routes with just little cutscenes between missions, and Beck's characterization is largely All There in the Manual.

I actually wanna say my least favorite part was the bit at the start cartoonishly spoiling the twist with Blackwell.
