Perhaps. It's just tat I've seen so much raving over the American version, mostly for the soundtrack, but I don't how much of that is due to nostalgia goggles. I've had little taste of both, and I still don't really know which to watch. I think I might go for the Director's cut first, for the additional scenes and what-not, and than go back to the American cut for the music and the alternate scenes. But oddly enough, there seems to be a lot of love for BOTH cuts of this movie. Usually the theatrical version is the one slammed for executive meddling, a la Daredevil. But people seemed to actually like this one just fine...

"If I reach for the stars, you can't hold me back"You should watched the original ending, where the vampires reveal their true purpose for coming and Neville learns that he's just as much a monster to them as they are to him. I hear the Vincent Price version The Last Man on Earth is also worth watching.

The European version and director's cut are 2 different versions. So far I've only watched the director's cut, since I was informed that there are quite a few plot relevant parts that are missing from the theatrical version. The original score is also very nice to listen to.
Ah I was under the impression that they were the same, or similar. I've already obtained the director's cut. is the European version as readily available as the other two?
"If I reach for the stars, you can't hold me back"According to information about the film, the European and U.S. releases are similar (barring the changed soundtrack), except the US ending is changed into more of a typical "happy ending". Since I haven't seen either, I am relying on Wikipedia and there may be other changes I am not aware of.
The European version is (obviously) the main release available over here in Europe, while it is harder to obtain the U.S. release. I went out of my way to import the U.S. blu-ray of Legend since it has the director's cut score in lossless, whereas the U.K. release is lossy. Unfortunately no release includes all 3 versions, which is a shame.
Edit: This page contains detailed info on scenes that differ between each version, though obviously SPOILER warning for the film versions. Clearly the U.S. and European versions are more different than I thought. The main change seems to be much more of a romance focus in the U.S. version.

I really want to to watch Legend (the movie with Tim Curry rocking some serious devil horns XD), and would like an idea of which cut to watch - the American edit, or the European version/director's cut?
