Trigger and Cross are about tied soundtrack wise for me and definitely top tier alongside Persona 4, Final Fantasy VI and up, Ni No Kuni, Dragon Quest VIII PS 2 western release, and some of the Kiseki Series.

And that quite the backlog... gl I hope my list added more on to that waii

I dunno why anyone would buy the original VP at this point considering it costs like 400$ at some places. The PSP version is basically the same, just with CG cutscenes instead of anime ones. Yes, there is a slight slowdown while the menu is loading, but it is no more than 3 seconds and doesn't happen all that often. Frankly, buying a used PSP and VPL is cheaper than buying the PS 1 version. The original game is just that rare.

Really? I've had my slim one for about 9 years now, and I have not been kind to it. Other than a few screen scratches though, it works just fine. Then again, I've heard people say the fat launch PS 3 models were very easy to break and mine is going strong after 10 years. They both honestly lasted more than my first PS 2, which died at about 5 years. My second PS 2 is still ok.

I've had my PS 2 ( a fat one) for over a decade now and even after all the bootlegs it still works fine. Sometimes it won't read a disc but resetting usually fixes that :p

Star Ocean 3 Remastered for the PS4.

Man, that is old-school. I don't think Till The End of Time will look all that good after all these years, but my massive nostalgia makes me happy to see it. Especially if they manage to make it run better. With this, you can now play all the games in the series on a PS 4 except for Blue Sphere and The Last Hope.

Oh I hope that comes west and maybe for PC, I would love to play that one again. The last great Star Ocean sadly.

So months ago we were all wondering how Nier Automata was going to do given its relatively unique creative pedigree.

Well it's the best-selling game for the week it's been out and apparently the game is going out of stock.

For reference, PS 3 Bayonetta first week sales were around 50k lower. This is also significantly better than the first Nie R which had a little over 70k with the Replicant and Gestalt versions combined. It's the best first week of any of the Drakengard games and comparable or superior to what most of them have made in terms of their year-long sales.

The big review outlets and gaming personalities have yet to put out their reviews but the few publications that have put them out have given the game 9.0's. I'm expecting the metacritic to end up around the low 80's at worst which would make it the best received Yoko Taro game ever.

I honestly think this game might be able to break 1 million units worldwide sales if word-of-mouth from western players is good enough upon release, which would be hilarious because that's more than the entire Drakengard series has sold in Japan combined.

I've been playing Tales of Vesperia for some time now. It's a good game. I like the fact that it has real time combat. Yuri's an interesting protagonist and the art style is pretty good for a game almost ten year old

This is probably a dumb question, and I apologize in advance if it is, but will I be able to enjoy and/or understand Etrian Odyssey IV if I never played the previous three games? It's the first game of its series for the 3DS, and I won't be able to play the others because they're for DS and mine was wrecked by a rat kid who is unfortunately my nephew.

Also, is it friendly to people who never played or got used to turn-based gameplay? Every RPG I've played (Zelda II, The Last Story, KH Chain of Memories, Pandora's Tower, Monster Hunter 3U and 4U, and Xenoblade Chronicles X) except a Might and Magic game is in real time.

Uh, if you can play Etrian Odyssey IV on a 3DS, you have the capability of playing the DS games.

Anyway, they're all separate story-wise. You can start on any of them. However, they're pretty difficult games. Not impossible, but you can't just mash attack and hope to win even on basic enemies. It does have an easy mode, so that should probably help. I wouldn't recommend it for a beginner, but if you're willing to put in the effort you'd probably be perfectly fine.

And depending on which Might and Magic game you played (that is, not six through nine), you actually have some idea of the controls and design.

The MM game I played was a spinoff (Clash of Heroes for DS), so that's probably not a reliable frame of reference.

One last question: Does it have a permadeath system? I had attempted to play Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon (a strategy game) and the permadeath system had strongly discouraged me to continue, especially since it was too easy to get emotionally attached to the characters (Shida.... sad),

It doesn't have permadeath...but it is expensive to revive characters. Also, you create your party yourself.

Dang, so I guess it's indeed a "Five or more years of experience to apply to this job" kind of game. Mind you, I'm NOT looking for a babysitting game in terms of challenge (I wouldn't have kept playing Monster Hunter or Pandora's Tower otherwise), only one that would serve as a Gateway Series for me in regards of turn-based games while still having a high challenge for the late-arc chapters.

I was checking images of the game, and I was hooked by the colorful areas, enemies and characters; not many games in recent memory had done this to me, hence why I was looking forward to it.

Thanks for the answers anyway. smile I will keep looking for games in 3DS, albeit possibly of other genres.

Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl is probably friendlier to new players. It has an actual story mode, and in the story mode the characters are set, so you have less to worry about when synergizing your party. It's a great series, and while it's tough, it's not among Atlus's harder games I think. Just make sure you like drawing maps before going in.

Are there any JRPG's with real-time combat that I can check out? I own a Xbox 360. I'll take any suggestions

There really aren't that many JRP Gs for the 360, and at least two of the ones that are there got improved rereleases on the PS 3 in English.

But anyway, there's Tales Of Vesperia, Infinite Undiscovery (no really, that's what it's called) and Star Ocean The Last Hope (this one is very hit or miss). I guess there's Final Fantasy Type-0 as well. The thing with the 360 is that aside from a group of JRP Gs (and one Korean rpg, Magna Carta 2) right off the bat, most of the developers went over to the PS 3, DS, or PSP/Vita entirely, with Square Enix doing multiplatform releases and Mistwalker skipping over to Nintendo. This was mostly because Microsoft really wanted the 360 to be a success in Japan, so they helped fund a bunch of big name games for the system...which utterly failed to sell in any really large numbers. I'm not sure what the deal was with Magna Carta.

Radiant Historia is getting a full remake on 3DS with additional scenarios! One of the few games I played to 100% completion, and I might still bite.
