High Epic Psionic Fantasy: looking for advice and inspiration

I have been influenced by such things as the Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, Wheel of Time, Malazen, the Illiad, the Odyssey, The Star Wars saga and expanded Universe, Dune, Stargate, Journey to the West and some of the Vedic tales, not to mention the super hero genre as well as many other things. I have decided I want to produce something that shows my passions ans my influences. My thought is a epic styled fantasy tale but where arcane magic is replaced by psionic powers and themes. Steam punk science and technology would be evident everywhere as well as a quasi psi-ence. But I still want the feel of a fantasy setting.

Any thoughts, ideas or advice on how best to present this or where to look for new inspiration or ideas?

Thanks.

Depends on what would you like psionics to be like. You may go the classic High Fantasy route, making it rare and poorly understood, mastered only by the high movers and shakers (and because of that latter thing, important in the grand scale). Or you can make it more scientific, based on verifiability and repeatability, with estabilished procedures of training psychics and psionic academies. Which of these are more to your liking?

And besides that, what can psychics do in your universe? Are their powers purely mental, like telepathy or clairvoyance? Are they capable of telekinesis? Jedi jumping? Killing people with their brains?

I think this discussion would fit better in "World Building". Anyway, we need some general guidence what kinds of plots you are interested in. That will help determine how "epic" or "subtle" the powers ought to be.
