Of course if Neopets isn't going to make such a move, perhaps some competition would force their hand into doing so.

Ever since the addition of the cash shop on the website, the whole thing feels like it is stuck in a limbo between an activities website (or maybe even a social networking site) and an MMO videogame.
Personally, I would love to see Viacom shift from a virtual pets website to a virtual pets MMO. There is already the world that contains many different settings and the lore contains many heroes and villains to engage in new conflicts. A player driven economy (i.e. marketplace), guilds, and the cash shop already present in one form on the website, the player base shouldn't feel too much of a shock if their pets, Neopoints, and inventory survive the migration.
Also it would help make Neopets be more relevant in a decade that has eyes peeled for the next big online game.
