I agree that Plastic Man and SBFF deserved their own shows more than Teen Titans, at least if they *only* wanted to do comedies. The TT DC Nation shorts weren't that great but at least they didn't turn the heroes into douchebags like Go! has.
It really comes down to what the marketers think would work. Plasticman is still fairly obscure and SBFF even moreso, so somebody decided that taking a successful property and re-imagining it as some cliche, obnoxious comedy with low budget flash animation would have a better chance of success. Same reason why Green Lantern was killed for yet another Batman show, though that had an ending at least.
Could be worse. They could be like Marvel and let Loeb stick his fingers into everything animated.

"When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all" Futurama, GodfellasGreen Lantern died because the movie flopped, but they made it, so they had to show it.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatGood point. Unfortunately, that does lead into the problem that they allow the success of movies to dictate their animated properties. The Green Lantern movie was bad, but the series was pretty good and completely unrelated to the movie beyond stemming from the same basic property. Marketers don't care to separate the two, so any property without a hit movie is doomed while those that do luck out are endlessly spammed.
I have the same issue with the Transformers properties becoming subservient to their crappy movies (which has lessened, thankfully), but that's another issue.

"When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all" Futurama, GodfellasI always felt they were trying to reproduce the success of Batman TAS with GL TAS. Remember that Batman TAS was made because of the Tim Burton movies... only the Burton movies were good and successful.
Plastic Man was pitched as its own show. The shorts we got are a small compromise.
An SBFF show would have been nice, alas Cartoon Network wanted to play it safe.
You there! Check out my Youtube Channel! The power of Ponies compel you!SBFF starred Supergirl and Batgirl, who are hardly obscure even outside comic book fandom (Wonder Girl not so much.) Definitely less so than Plastic Man.
Still, it's true that DC's owners have committed a LOT of mistakes in recent years, both with the actual comics and their movie adaptations, at least when compared to Marvel. They just don't seem to 'get' the relation between the IPs and their audiences.
I want an Amethyst cartoon.
don’t call me nerdy [img][/imgI remember reading that Plasticman was pitched as a show, but it ended up being rejected(rumor went around that Johnny Test got picked up over Plastic-man).
I kinda wish they went ahead with the Plasticman cartoon series. It has the promise of being a good show. Let alone it has a retro feel to it since its done by a couple of the best cartoony artists out there. Does Lauren even know that people want to see SBFF become a full fledged show or is she still getting flooded with pony fan-mail?
Yeah, SBFF wouldn't be that obscure at all. Likely it's not being made because Mc Cracken's got a new show, which Faust is perhaps contributing to?
It would certainly be a worthwhile venture, maybe if they played it the Krypto The Super Dog level of humor, that is, less self-parody than Teen Titans Go, but less serious than the DCAU
Was SBFF as popular as FIM to begin with? I know a lot of people weren't too pleased about Teen titans go becoming a series over SBFF. Let alone that SBFF is a major case of They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot
Its hard to say SBFF is as popular as FIM, seeing as SBFF is about 5 minutes long when you combine all the shorts. I think the reception was generally positive though, particularly among bronies.
I could be cynical and say the reason it wasn't made into a show is because Cartoon Network still doesn't have faith to make a show with a mostly female lead cast that isn't Powerpuff Girls, but again it was probably just playing safe with Teen Titans. Also yeah Lauren is busy with Wander Over Yonder with her husband.
You there! Check out my Youtube Channel! The power of Ponies compel you!Aside from working with her husband Craig with Disney. What else has she been up to these days? I've been thinking about making a petition to convince CN to make both shorts into shows.
Duh, why the hell didn't i think of it. Powerpuff Girls is what they would be trying to emulate, just with teenage heroes who aren't sisters, but the same balance of serious, silly, and slice-of-life.
Damn, I was beaten to the punch. Someone else made the petition for it.
I think the monetary failure of the Green Lantern franchise probably killed any chance of us seeing lesser-known DC properties as the leads of television shows. I'd be willing to be the next DC show is going to be either Superman or a Justice League reboot.
Sad thing is, Green Lantern is one of the bigger DC properties. At this rate, we'll be going through an endless cycle of Batman and (probably) Superman cartoons.

Don't mind me. I'm just a creepy little lurker.Does DC even pay attention to its other superheroes outside of Batman?
Yup. They've been giving a huge push to Green Lantern in the comics since 2005, and they made a legitimate effort with him outside comics too. Heck, a 200 million dollar movie and an expensive CGI cartoon to hang its hat on.
Problem is, the movie flopped and the lack of toys killed the TV show after just 26 episodes, so WB is probably very hesitant about other properties now.
Yeah, they think the fact that the franchise was based on an obscure hero caused it to fail, instead of, you know, being bad.
Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).Well Plastic Man did have Brave and the Bold to boost his name (though as well received it was, one could argue it wasn't enough. And it has been as while since Justice League Unlimited). Still from the pilot alone, the potential was great. I don't mind Teen Titans Go but the play-it-off jerk-it-tude and some lackluster endings does make it kinda meh for me.

All of space and time, everything that ever was and could have been... and there's still nothing on tv
One of my brothers and his online friends on deviantart(artists clxcool, loko-motion, and a few others) were talking about teen titans go. My brother thought they shouldn't have done a revival/reboot of teen titans based off of the mini segments from DC nation. Since they are more of a comic route than being like the original show. Although, while some of his friends beg to differ, one of them mentioned Plasticman and Super Best friends forever.
Even saying that both Plasticman and SBFF had more demand to be fleshed out as animated shows than being one minute shorts. Loko and CLX mentioned they(the executives of Cartoon Network) didn't see the high demand in SBFF and plasticman. Although that is for you to decide.
I think SBFF and Plasticman would have made good shows. Since you dont find cartoony animation like Plasticman much on Cartoon Network anymore.
