Meanwhile, not too far away...a few aisles down, to be exact, stood a guy in the middle of an existential crisis. The crisis being whether he should get the barbecue chips, or the sour cream and onion. His ever-present briefcase sat near his feet, and cigarette smoke hung around his head like a fog.
As he weighed his options, he noticed the dude with...he couldn't tell if it was aTelecaster or a Stratocaster, he wasn't too good at identifying guitars anyway... He casually glanced at the guy's purple sandals, and suddenly something seemed to click in his head. He placed the sour cream and onion chips back on the shelf and muttered, "Maybe some other time," then picked up his briefcase and made his way over to the newcomer.
When he got to within arm's reach, he casually extended his hand. "Sup," he said with a flat affect. "Central told me to expect you in town soon. Name's Ishimura. Or Kenta, if you're not into formalities. Whatever floats your boat, I guess."

Takumi nodded curtly and shook Kenta's hand. "So, you're the guy they decided to ship to this boring lump of dirt with me, huh?" asked Takumi wryly.

Kenta shrugged. "Guess so." He glanced around before mentioning, "I've been here a out a day and I gotta say, when they talk about backwoods, this is what they mean."
He paid for his food by throwing some money on the counter, not even bothering to count it out (luckily, he had given too much, which the clerk pocketed). He immediately opened the small bag of chips and shoved a few in his mouth. "Fuh fwumma muh fuma fuh." Swallowing his chips, he added, "...and that's about it. Their young are kinda weird, though."

Takumi mumbled angrily under his breath as he rode down the street, his motorcycle roaring underneath him as he went along. Medical Mechanica was up to its old tricks here on this lump of dirt, and he'd been sent as an investigator to stop them from ironing out the wrinkles in humanity's brains.
He pulled into a gas station, dismounting the bike and making sure his Stratocaster was still secured to his back.
"Why's that guy wearing purple flip-flops?" asked one customer in a loud whisper. Takumi scowled as he refueled the bike.
"Why'd I end up getting shipped off here?" he muttered.
