Vegeta sold his soul for power seven years after watching Trunks get murdered in front of him.

That is also after losing the will to fight after Goku's gone, which he doesn't lose in this, and a whole mess of other stuff in the Buu Saga. That's also ignoring that like I said, he's starting his Character Development seven years early.

Also Shark, you really have no business even saying this, considering the fact you and Zelenal are just as guilty of that for what you did to Bulma in your fic.

But the thing is that Bulma is, by and large, a side character and most of the stuff she does is inconsequential. We're not driving the plot by, and focusing the vast majority of the story on, radical changes to her character.

Also, on top of that, as mentioned, there is no reason for Vegeta to start his character development. If anything, he should be shittier. Because now he's the most powerful being in the universe, Kakarot's dead, and Kakarot's son is a fucking coward. He rules the roost, he's king of the castle. This would be a license for Vegeta to be a dickhead par excellence.

Again, if Vegeta got Super Saiyan 2 on account of rage at himself for being unable to stop Trunks' death, with the understanding that he was completely helpless to stop it (which would have been a massive hit to his pride because of said uselessness), and actually understands that him caring for someone is how he ascended in the first place, he isn't just going to ignore that like an idiot.

Also, Bulma isn't even remotely a side character, and you know it. She's the one who got Krillin and Gohan to Namek, which would have led to just Vegeta and Frieza's army on it if she hadn't, it was her future self that made the damn time machine in the first place that led to Trunks going into the place at all, which ultimately prevented a lot of shit from going down, and she's ultimately the one who started the entire hunt for the Dragon Balls in the first place, and got Goku off that damn mountain to go with her when they met, which led to Goku ultimately meeting all the people who would train him into becoming strong enough to handle every threat on the planet. If it wasn't for her, Goku would still be on that mountain living alone, and the planet would be screwed a million times over once Piccolo, the Saiyans, and Frieza eventually happened. Plus, you kind of made her the reason for why Gohan even exists in your story.

But then it's not genuine. It's Vegeta pretending to care because he believes that emotional investment will yield greater power, which is just what he wound up doing in canon anyway where Trunks' death didn't make him transform.

Except it is genuine in this. Look, just drop it, because you are never gonna get me to agree with you on this.

Okay, side character is the wrong word. But I don't understand what your complaint is, then. Us making her slightly more Machiavellian and ambitious didn't make her incapable of doing those things.

You also kind of did it to Dr. Brief too, what with the whole poisoning his father to take control of the company thing. Seriously, the only morally wholesome person in that family right now is Mrs. Brief, and she's the most insignificant of the whole group.

I am. Personally, I like it better than Tales of the Monkey Queen.

Indeed. Tales of the Monkey Queen had a nail that changed very little early on, resulting in a lot of arbitrary changes being made to make it feel less like it was just you retelling Dragon Ball. While there are some arbitrary changes in Three Eyed Turtle and the Murderous Monkey, most of the story has been based on the nail. Namely, giving Shen Kakarot and Gohan Tenshinhan. Meaning Gohan is alive and Shen has access to an Oozaru. On top of that, because Shen's Crane school wasn't well explored in canon, you have a lot more room for world building than you did in Tales of the Monkey Queen. And because the Crane School features so heavily in the story, the Kakarot end of the story feels more like an expansion on the Dragon Ball world than the mere retreading of it that most Kakarot fics do, while the Tenshinhan end keeps it from drifting away from the tale of Dragon Ball entirely.
