Hello people. I have to write a major essay on art history in a cultural context, and I was wondering if you folks of the interwebs could offer some recommendations. I have my heart set on the artwork of Athens during the Periclian golden age, but due to the huge importance of this period to artistic history the number of books written on the subject is huge and I can't see the forest for the tree's. I can't go through every book my local librarys have to find the best because I don't have that kind of time. It's a university level essay so I need something with solid creditability and contextual detail. Could you recommend any books, films, or websites on the subject? My essay is as much about historical context and impact as the artwork itself so general books about the period would be great to have as well.
