So this game just got released on Steam today after going through Greenlight. It's apparently a hardcore sandbox MMO with Real Time twitch style combat and a strong focus on PVP all the time. I remember the original Darkfall not being received all that well because of its lack of polish and somewhat poorly implemented ideas, but apparently this game's supposed to be much better than that. I dunno, I never played the original because it was (and still is) a subscription based MMO.

So what does everyone else have to say about this game? Apparently it's got a very dedicated and fanatical fanbase that'll go off on anyone who mentions a single negative thing about the game, no matter how minor or how legit, if the Steam forums are of any indication.

Force S C2strategy has a first impressions video on the Beta. Though it seems he's focusing a little too much on the graphics.

Combat looks like what TESO should have implemented. I'm guessing the lower poly counts and less extravagant lighting are to facilitate larger scale PVP.

Has anyone here actually played it? From what I've heard, it's a fairly different experience compared to most MM Os, but then again I heard that from crazy fanboys who will defend the game till death.

Also, I found out that the developers chose to make people who owned the original Darkfall pay for the new Unholy Wars, as opposed to making it a big free update. Though apparently they had a promotion where original Darkfall owners could preorder Unholy Wars for the price of a subscription.

Makes sense. Unholy Wars is basically a full on reboot of the original. Pricing it as an expansion would be like making EQ 2 an expansion to EQ or FFXIV an expansion to FFXI.

This game is half off during the Steam Summer Sale, so instead of $40 + $15/month sub, it's $20 + $15/month sub (with the first month free, of course). I still don't really know if it's worth it, because there's so many other games that are on sale that I'd rather play first.
