She then took another look at the magical girl in question. Addressing her remarks to Rachel, she said, "So what did they do to you? Did they brainwash you, or just give you lots of money? You can't mean to say that working for those psychopaths is more appealing than being on our side."

Tammy swallowed the lump in her throat as she took in the sight of the approaching golems. She'd been shown pictures of them during the briefings, of course, but they were something else in person.

Man, are they gross! I am so glad I'm not a melee fighter right now.

Giz, meanwhile, dusted herself off from being pushed in the sand for no apparent reason by Hannah. Geez, she's been overprotective ever since the lunch room, she thought, and charged off for the golems.]]

Tammy to 7.13, attack 9.14. Giz to 8.15, attack 9.14. If 9.14 is already defeated, Giz to 10.13 and attack 9.12 or 11.13, whichever is closer to death.

Magda transformed, following Alice over the water. "What are you doing?" she asked, her eyes scanning the group of enemy bats.

Victoria transformed, feeling the weight of her spear settle into her hands. She ran towards the group of golems, trying to keep herself from yelling out a battle cry in some linguistic ancestor of English.

Kat muttered her incantation with a quick breath and moved forward, just into range of the nearest target. She pointed at the golem and gave a thunderous command: "Fire!"

Shrieks of rocketry howled from some phantom distance, and fire came raining from the skies down on the golem.

"Hey, girls!" Erica came up running over the water to Magda and Alice. "Don't mind if I join you, do you?"

She stopped, or skidded, or the closest thing to skidding atop the water, coming to a full halt between her comrades. The cannon on her arm materialized and withbarely a pause she took aim at the nearest GDB at fired. The monster was hit right in the center and went down without even a cry. Erica whooped in triumph.

"Haha! Sunk, sucker!"

She felt so much better with things to shoot at.

Prita's words made their war to Rachel, who just shrugged. "What can I say? I'm playing for the right team. Gonna bring down your whole rotten system and replace it with something better? Why don't you stop being slaves to these chumps in their uniforms and fancy capitals and join up with me?"

"Ar'ight, landlubbers, seems like we be sailin' up, so I be headin' out now, good luck!" Ashley said to the land magical girls. With that, she dived down into the water from where she was currently standing. A few seconds later, she popped up near Alice, Erica, and Magda.

"Ahoy! Ye lootin' yer time wit' them? Thar's more o' them up ahead so ye best be hurryin' up. They won't be waitin' fer us forever." She turned around and fired on a hapless golem that was nearby. "I'll reduce yer ship to rubble, ye festerin', poxy kraken!" she shouted at it as she fired.

"Take that!" Hannah said gleefully as the golems all perished. "Uh-oh, looks like they're angry now," she said to the rest of the girls as she looked around. "We better get ready. DEFENSIVE POSITIONS!" As soon as she shouted that, she took off running, stopping when she got to the top of a dune that she liked, and then dug in. She kept her sling primed, ready to strike, almost as if daring their foes to charge at her.

Ashley to 10.04. Attack golem at 13.03

Hannah to 12.15. Defend.

Giz planted her sandalled foot on the golem's shoulder and kicked it off the end of her spear. Seeing a flock of bats closing in from the east, she hurried to meet them.

Tammy still shuddered from the shockwave of the blast that had narrowly missed her, fired by the golem that was now a smoldering pile of rubbish several yards away. Fear rattled its way from the soles of her boots up to the crown of her head, but the other girls were already advancing again, and she wasn't about to let anyone say she hadn't done her part. Swallowing the lump in her throat, she forged ahead, dropped to one knee behind the crest of a sand dune, and readied herself as best she could for the next wave of enemies.

Giz to 13.14 and Defend. Tammy to 12.14 and Defend.

Magda grinned brightly as the bat's attack missed her. She raised the barrel of her gun, firing on the ball of fluff.

Magda attacks the GDB at 5.05

Victoria dashed after the other girls, not quite sure what to do and hoping that the others knew what they were doing. She quashed down a Wisp-born desire to charge ahead and just start hitting every enemy available with her spear.

Victoria to 12.16 and Defend

Alice winced as Erica's shot streaked past her and felled the first fuzzy thing. "Damnit!" she growled as she finished striking back at the one that had tried to ram her, "What the hell did you go and do that for?! I was going to try to communicate with them, you little- ARGH!" Since negotiating with the bats themselves seemed to be a lost cause at this point, however, she instead vented her frustration at the one directly in front of the other girl.

Alice attacks GDB 4.

The immediate targets Maya could see were all taken out by her companions, so she advanced carefully. Her nose still stung from last time, and despite Hanzō's constant nagging she did not rush ahead.
Maya to 09.15 and defends.

Prita was happy to see that Rachel had responded. Now for the next step: trying to make a defection plausible, while also possibly drawing out some more information. "Gee, I dunno," she responded. "Back where I come from, there's something called evidence that people use when making an argument. As far as I can see it, we're fighting for the good of the free world. All you seem to be doing is furthering the interest of some guy called Drakan. What on earth would make any of use ever want to go over to your side?"

As she said this, she moved into position for the next wave of the assault.

Prita to 11.14, buffs Tammy at 12.14.

"Ugh!" Winter didn't exactly show off her skills with that last little scuffle there. Hoping to redeem herself, she burst forward, off to the front lines once more.

"Oh, please." Erica rolled her eyes before aiming at her next target. "If you have something to say to the enemy say it after you've crushed them underfoot, with overwhelming FORCE!"

The cannon went off and the target dropped dead in the water. The Wisp beside her glowed like a radiant blue sun, approving of how she channeled the Civil War admiral inside of her.

Over on the island Rachel was equally dismissive. "Yeah, well where I come from we have this things called 'You're not my mom. I don't need to tell you jack if I don't want to!'" She ordered the remaining monsters to continue the charge. Watching the Atlantis team strike down the picket though, caused her to purse her lips and motion for a GDB to come to her. She whispered something in its ear before the little beast took off away from the battlefield.

"Tell you what!" she called to Prita, "Beat me and I'll tell you whatever you want. Lose and you gotta come with me!"

"Finish him off!" Giz called, waving her spear at the dog-like golem that had just rebounded off her shield and been treated to a blast from its sickle-heart emblem. There were bats incoming, and she wanted to cut them off as soon as possible.

Tammy dropped to one knee as she reached a better vantage point and started sighting at the bats when she heard the scary older girl's orders and looked back over her shoulder at the golem. She would rather focus on the bats, but if no one else dealt with the dog, she supposed she would.

Giz to 16.14, Defend. Tammy to 15.13. If dog at 14.15 is at 3 health after all other girls go, attack 14.15. If dog is at 2 or lower, Defend.

"Grr!" Hannah growled at the dog. "You're gonna pay fo- hey Giz, wait!" She ran off after Giz, stopping near her.

"Wha's that, ye wants another? I'll see ye in Davy Jones' locker!" Ashley shouted at the golem. She hoisted her cannon, and ran around the small island, stopping all of a sudden and letting a shot out at the monster. "I'll feed yer parrot t' the sharks, ye lice-infested, feckless simpleton! Garr!"

Wallace thought it necessary to butt in with a random thought. "I like that Hannah lassie's spirit. She'd make a good wife given a decade or so."

Meanwhile, Winter pretended she didn't hear anything and hopped along further onto the battlefield.

"I really doubt these things have more intelligence or self awareness than a golem, which is to say, just enough to take orders and hit things," Magda noted. She glided over the water in the direction of the golem on one of the little islands and settling next to Ashley and raising her gun.

Victoria dashed up, pointing her spear at the hound.

Whirling her kusarigama, Maya advanced carefully, seeking an opening in the hellhound's defences.

"Oh yeah?!" Alice challenged, scowling as her fellow Brit moved to take down the crippled grey enemy, "I bet you've never even tried talking to them, have you?!"

Grumbling to herself, she rushed across the water to make her way closer to the main island, and held up her spear in defense once again. "Hey, Mr. Red!" she called across to the crimson golem, the only nonhuman in sight that wasn't being bombarded, "So, uh... you're a big guy, huh? Want to be friends? My name's Alice Bellamy! What's yours?"

Alice to 15.04, Defend

Prita noted the whispering to the bat, but said nothing. She was more preoccupied with her plan. Come on, you little shit, give me something to work with. Aloud, she answered, "You must not be very convinced of your side, if you can't defend them in any way. Are you sure you haven't just been brainwashed?"

She then moved behind Giz, to start the next part of her plan.

Intelligence the monsters may have lacked, but they sure knew how to put up a fight. Magda and Victoria found that out the hard way.

"How can you even talk with a - Hey, wait for me!" Erica shouted as the others took off, her blood lust momentarily forgotten. Almost as an afterthought, she pointed her cannon at the already battered golem on the little rock and fired without looking.

Alice's attempt at peaceful dialogue fell on deaf ears. Or perhaps not quite deaf as the large red golem did take notice of her. It replied in its own fashion, by lumbering towards the Atlantis sea team and firing at Alice. The shot was off a bit though, missing its intended target at hitting Ashley instead.

"Brainwash?" Rachel laughed. "Girl, if you saw the things I saw, and been thought what I've been through, you wouldn't need no brain washing to make a Drakan fighter out of you."

She turned her attention to the monsters advancing on the land team.

"Hey, dummies! Don't you see you're walking right into an encirclement? Don't just stroll to your deaths! Get back here and regroup!"

"Now, lasses! Press th' attack!" Ashley shouted, motoring her way to a nice spot in the ocean near Rachel. She let loose from her cannon again, sending a cannonball rocketing towards the dark magical girl. "Yer mother was a bilge rat an' yer father smelt of grog, ye festerin', pestilent kraken!"

"Hurry, they're regrouping!" Hannah shouted, rush off along the sandbard.
