Prita was beginning to lose her hesitation as she picked up on General Johnston's body language. He's actually listening to me! she thought. Aloud, she said, "I wish I could be as assured as you that we don't have contact with the enemy. We might not be able to find them, but that doesn't meet they can't find us. I don't have any evidence to support this, but I would certainly consider it a possibility that they have spies at the school. From my encounters with them, at least a few of them seem to be very skilled tactically, and such a possibility must have occurred to them. Even if this isn't the case, they still must be following our actions on the news."
"The even bigger question, it seems to me, is how we could make a defector convincing. If one of us tried to find them, saying that she wanted to turn sides, they would be likely to be highly suspicious. Since nothing is known about them except for their aggressive attitude, there would be no good reason to any one of us to go over to them. Even if we were able to make contact in this case, we would most likely be walking into a trap ourselves."
Prita took a deep breath. This had gone further than her planning had anticipated. "For these reasons combined, I think the best thing would be to make them think they can turn one of our members. I would suggest that the next time we have a sortie, we engage in some highly publicized arguments among ourselves, that get widely reported on and transmitted over the airwaves." It's not like we're not almost there anyways. "If they think that one of our girls is feeling treated unfairly, they might try to establish contact with her to get her on their side — and we can anticipate this in turn, and set up our own countermeasures."

"Wow, that's unexpectedly backboned of you," Hannahone replied to Hannahtwo as she continued in the direction of the path to Six Flags. "Especially for a girl who only took five dollars with her for a day trip with no lunch provided. But I like you, you're a brave one. You get plus one points for today. I'll even get nachos for us. You'll just owe me a favor, okay? Someday, and that day may never come, I’ll call upon you to do a favor for me, and you'll have to do it. Deal?"

"Ye get t' live another day unshackled," Ashley lightly said to the water, in the direction of the otter's path. "But one day ye'll be mine." She pulled out her flask so as to nurse her otter-related wounds, but as it was empty, she pulled out her bottle to refill it first.
Turning around as she took a swig, and seeing the new magical girls, she snarled. "Shiver me timbers, ye best be mindin' yer owns damned business, ye natterin' trollops!"
Katyusha turned and sprinted for the finish, flag firmly in hand.

The worst behind them, the three woman team practically strolled back to the starting point with confidence. Kat was trailing behind the others but was unhurt in her return journey with flag in hand. Maya and Magda were also free from mine or missile attacks, though the missiles Magda flew over began shooting out anyway when a pelican flew too close. The startled bird did an abrupt 180 in the sky and flapped away in terror, but was otherwise unharmed.

The girls atop the stairs stared at Ashley after her outburst for a few seconds.
"The hell does that even mean?"
"Was that English?"
"Well, whatever." One girl looked down at the floating girls before flipping her hair dismissively. "Enjoy your swim." She called out before strolling away. The other girls followed, chuckling a bit.
Erica waited until they were out of sight and hearing range before she spoke her mind.
"That was so stupid!" She shouted and pounded the water in a fruitless display of frustration. "How in the hell did we lose a fight to freakin' otters!?"
Her awareness up and running again, Erica took the closest thing possible at the moment to a calm breath and magically rose her body back out of the water. Once the soles of her feet were the only part of her still touching the water, she reverted to her regular clothes. Stomping in a huff towards the dock she muttered, "I'm just going to pretend this didn't happen."
General Johnson's Office
The General went into his quiet mode again after listening to Prita's elaborated proposal. From time to time his eyes flickered over to the computer screen, or to the picture frame on his desk, before returning down to stare at his folded hands.
"Alright, Miss Maurya. That's probably the best plan we've got so far. This was your proposal so you are in charge. Gather some volunteers and put together a plan of operation to be submitted to me once you've worked out the details."
Katyusha kept moving, avoiding known mines as best she could, finding herself slowed a bit by her injuries.

"Your mission is not to nuke the squid god." —Faramir"Seconded," Tammy said, transforming back to her normal blue jeans and t shirt as she walk over to the dock and offered Erica a hand up. "We never, ever, ever speak of this again. Especially not to the cool girls that get to go on secret missions and stuff."

"And you'll make sure to deliver the bugs to us before the operation — assuming everything meets your approval, of course."
Well, time to get cracking, Prita thought to herself as she walked back to her dorm. Unfortunately, I can't trust half the students of this school to follow a simple plan. I'll just have to make sure things happen naturally. A sinister glint appeared in her eyes at the last part, accompanied by a shudder of disapproval from her wisp.

With a flourish Magda and Maya arrived at their starting and ending point. Still slogging along like a Soviet in a snowstorm was Kat in the rear. She was the only one left. Just a few more yards and victory was assured!

"I never get to go on secret missions anyway." Erica muttered as Tammy pulled her up. "Only the older girls get to have all the fun."
For a second her mind went back to the day the golems had attacked the school. The terrified screams and chaotic running, the raw adrenaline and frantic gunfire. With a sharp shake of her head, Erica dispelled those memories.
"Anywaaaaaaaaaaays. You!" She pointed a finger of accusation at Ashley, "What in the name of John Paul Jones did you put into the freaking water?"
In the name of John Paul Jones? The hell? Erica glared at her wisp, Noting with suspicion that it had been entirely absent during the battle with the - during the THING that happened with the THINGS which she was still purging from her memory.

"Not Topic? Is that where, like, old Hot Topic stuff goes to die?" One of the other girls quipped as she followed Giz.
Over with the Hannahs, a solemn oath was being made; "I swear to return your favor someday." Hannahtwo said with her hand on her heart. "I think. Maybe. I'm pretty sure I'll remember. Can I have jalapenos on my nachos? Oh, and some salsa? Can we get some sour cream also? I think some..."
And she went on and on while trailing Hannah the elder.

Kat had made it! Mission success! With only a few burns and bruises, the magical trio had dodged virtually all of the mines and missiles and made it back with flags in hand.
By chance, the battle had finished at about the same time as when Prita left Johnson's office.

"Uuuuraaa!" Katyusha cried in relief, rolling over and looking up at the blue sky. As the others looked down at her, hand clenched defiantly around the pole of the flag, her body began shaking in odd spasms. It was only a few seconds later, as her voice grew loud enough to hear, that they realized she was laughing in victory.

"Aye," Ashley replied, transforming back by sending her cannon away. "So what now? You want to watch TV?"
"Sure. But if there's nothing good on, I've got Avengers 3 back in my room."

"Oooooh, let's watch that, I didn't get to see it when it was in theaters, I was uhh... out of the country," Ashley replied.
After taking a quick shower, Prita went to the cafeteria. It wasn't yet dinner time, but she decided to do her homework there instead of in her room as she normally did. If her plan was to work, she would need to run into some of the other magical girls — and this was as good a place as any to cross paths with them.

"Can we grab some food first?" Erica said while trailing behind the other two. I wanted to eat when we got to the mainland but it looks like that ain't happening any time soon."

Down the docks, past the beach, and onto the streets Giz, the Hannahs, and company went. It was a typical weekend from the looks of it. Beach goers in swim suites crowded the water, with surfers just beyond them in the less crowded deeper waters. Kids with kites ran past old men with metal detectors. Over in the paved area shoppers and tourists walked about or shopped from store to store.
Over in the beach parking there was, in fact, a food truck selling nachos. Down the street was Giz' shop of choice.
After their leisurely excursion, Kat was on her way to the mess hall. Being blown up had left her hungry.

"One grande nachos, please," Hannahone told the person at the food truck. She cast a glance back at Hannahtwo, and turned back to the food truck operator. "With extra jalapeños, beans, and guacamole. And two Inca Kolas."

"I could eat," Ashley replied to Erica. Her stomach growled. "I hope they have cheesesteaks."
"...did I just get pimp-slapped by an overgrown drowned rat?" Tammy said, staring off where the otters had disappeared into the water.
