Presumably similar to the agreement Saban/Disney/Saban again had with Toei, although we've never really known much detail. When adapting stuff there must have been some channel of communication for arranging that and I assume that probably stayed roughly the same regardless of who owned PR. Some people speculate that it's more fraught because Hasbro is a competitor to Bandai and Bandai of Japan has a big influence on Sentai, but there's no actual evidence of that.

So does a relationship with Toei come packaged with the Power Rangers IP?

As long as you are using Super Sentai stuff, probably.

Just as an aside regarding Ninja Steel. I "like" how fast humor was deemed on brand, but that a cowboy ninja using a burger morpher was undignifying for the show.😏

It made sense in the sentai.

Oh I have no problem with it. I just wonder why Saban axed that, but thought flatulence humor would be better received.

TBF StarNinger was pretty intentionally weird in the Sentai, his gimmick was really just being American... which translates to being a cowboy werewolf with a bison mecha, hamburger phone/changer and guitar sword, who also drops gratuitous English and loves to take selfies. Adapting that was always gonna be weird.

They technically did use the burger in Ninja Steel... as his regular phone.

I always thought Star Ninjer was a reference to the 'American Ninja' that showed up in Kakuranger.

It is but unlike Jiraiya who was a more respectful and accurate portrayal, Star Ninnjer went for AMERICA FUCK YEAH. And to its credit its more hilarious than insulting.

What, why? That's strange to remove the first season, not the second season.

May just be a licensing/time thing, presumably the agreement was that Beast Morphers would be on Netflix for X amount of time and that's now expired, with Hasbro presumably choosing not to extend it since they're putting all the seasons up on YouTube now. Season 2 probably has a separate deal to season 1, so they'll remove it whenever that expires.

[up][up]I've actually seen that happen to a few shows before, just seems to be how Netflix's licensing agreements work sometimes. I think they license stuff on a season by season basis and don't always feel like keeping everything together. Transformers Prime, for instance, only has Season 1 on Netflix currently while the others are on Tubi.

Episode 3 of Rail Riders is now up...and in full uncut form this time on Youtube. It may have something to do with only having a small percentage of Sentai footage this time, usually the Zord fights are cut from the Youtube versions, but this episode has no Ranger fight and it goes straight to the Zords (and yes, it is the one with the giant rail dong)

Well now that we're in a lull of official PR content I'd like to ask the thread how you would adapt a super sentai (or other toku show) into a season of Power Rangers?

It could be a season they skipped, a season they only used the certain footage or suits from, or seasons from before Power Rangers started.

We still have the comic, one of which is another crossover with Godzilla.

I would love to see another 'hybrid' season, only done more competently than Goseiger/Gokaiger.

Still wish we could get something similar to Hexagon. Surprised there hasn't been a fan film take on that yet, even if a few films out there allude to it a bit.

I know it's skipped because of the "rangers vs rangers" angle, but Lupin vs Pat would still be a worthy candidate for an adaptation too.

For a while now I've had this weird idea of adapting the Lupinrangers without the Patrangers... as supporting characters. Basically, the trio first shows up as enthusiastic fans of the rangers but seemingly comic-relief buffoons. The next time we see them they've adopted the Lupinranger suits as a street act and have all their poses in check and some equipment slapped together. The current rangers brush them off as a cheap cash-attraction, but in a later episode said team are put on the backfoot, onyl to saved... by one of the gadgets from the Lupin Rangers. By the end of the ep they are recognised as having the will of heroes even if they don't have any superpowers. Perhaps they lend the current rangers a device or two or show up every now and then to do... stuff.

I would have liked to have seen a more faithful adaptation of Gokaiger divorced from whatever they were doing with Megaforce/Supermegaforce.

It could have been something like In Space's finale where there's a galaxy wide invasion and a group of alien pirate rebels carrying the Ranger keys crash land on Earth and have to pass their powers onto a new set of heroes in order to stop the armada.

Of the unadapted seasons, Kiramager seems to be the most obvious choice. They're a fairly straightforward Sentai, with enough flair. Name it something like Gem Guard, also probably do specific gemstones instead of just colours. I would keep it fairly similar to the original source material, although maybe make the gemstones and villains magic instead of aliens. I'd definitely keep the mecha being sentient and talking to the rangers, as that adds a very fun dynamic. The setup of a bunch of different people who are each pros in their respective fields and are chosen by the stones would carry over pretty well but they wouldn't necessarily have to be the same ones; it could be adapted into a high school setting by instead making them into different subjects or clubs. I'd also keep Mabusina the gem princess character, could probably use the same costume although would need a name change. If it was done as a high school series, could give the princess a human form and do a plotline of her trying to fit in with humans. I think Takamichi's plotline might be too complicated, but he could still be either a human or another gem person.

Lupin vs Patranger needs the ranger vs ranger element, there's simply too much footage and plot stuff that builds on that. They could soften it though, make the Lupinrangers something like treasure hunters or whatever so they're not explicitly criminals; I'd keep the Lupin Collection (although probably remove the reference to actual Arsene Lupin) element so they have something to focus on, while the Patrangers are more focused on actually beating the monsters. Could also use original footage to have them team up more, and alter the final arc so that they finish as one team.

Zyuohger could also work as a fairly straight adaptation, but the whole Zyuland thing might be too involved/fantastical? I've seen people suggest making it into a video game thing, so that could definitely work; maybe have it so that the rangers all play some kind of online game together, and their respective characters in-game are all animal-people, or literally just the Ranger suits if you wanna be lazy. The villains could be video game villains come to life, and the heroes somehow gain the ability to "download" the powers of their game characters, allowing them to morph. The Instinct Awakened mode could then be like a temporary game power-up, whereas Red's gorilla and whale modes are stronger upgrades he gets by levelling up. The sixth ranger is a mysterious high-level player who the villains brainwash to be evil for a bit before turning good. The orange ranger, since he doesn't appear much, could be a mentor figure who only gets lesser ranger powers, or maybe a good game character they manage to summon. Maybe call it Pixel Beasts.
