The Gush Thread in Yack Fest was recently derailed by an enormous philosophical/political discussion about utopia, government and the human condition. I admit I am at least partially at fault for this. It continued until it was suggested that we begin the debate anew in a separate thread. Here it is.
(The title is concise, though maybe a little inaccurate. It was the best catch-all I could think of for what was discussed in the thread.)
For those in need of a recap or a reason to continue arguing, my current position on the subject is more or less that Hobbes was Right. Democracy is slow and inefficient; in with Big Brother.
