The year is 2176, the world is culturally very similar to the late 1970s. New Zealand has become a major superpower thanks to secret developments in terraforming. Mars has several small mining colonies on it and the moon is now a major space port although there are no developments outside our solar system. An organisation called United Earth which is essentially the future United Nations has been experimenting with cross-dimensional technologies to counter New Zealand's extra planetary wealth, but in the process of a radiation experiment gives twelve military convicts superpowers. Instead of them escaping and becoming vigilantes like in a superhero comic, they are trained as soldiers. The UE sees this as a perfect chance to use the ragtag superhero team to destroy each of the incredibly highly skilled james bond/jason bourne style assassins which have become the norm for special operations for each faction that opposes them.
