Not really. I mean I don't have any sort of cellular data plan myself, but a lot of people do.

I don't, so it didn't really strike me as all that weird, no.

It's been fun.

Honestly, I'm sort of down with Cal's (in-character) suggestion that we take 20. At least that way we can know where to look... though the whole group has already been through every room, haven't they, to get those maps?

It's been fun.

Yes, the entire group has been through the house at least once to see the map.

And that plan works, but you'll only have enough time to search five or six rooms before it gets dark. Sure, you can continue searching after dark, but, even with the flashlights it will be a bit less productive.

Finally, one spoiler to keep things moving: Things seem a little slow-going right now, and it doesn't seem like you have much to work with, but if you sleep on it, and actually experience the nightmares for yourself, I can guarantee that things will be a lot clearer in the morning.

Edited Greg's description in the signup thread. I drifted a bit from the original idea, but so far, sticking with it hasn't been that bad. Now he's a "Somewhat naive , though at the same time, savvy soul", instead of a laidback being, who enjoys viewing events in motion.

@Eternal Noob: No offense, but when Greg told Raymond what he saw, I was hoping that he'd mention all of those people that woke up screaming in the middle of the night. Then Raymond would suggest that they all go to sleep to see if they could experience the nightmares for themselves, and we could all get a move on.tongue

Just thought I'd point out that you all seem to be missing one little detail of the dream sequences. Specifically, you are all missing precisely the same detail. There is one line of text that is almost exactly the same in everyone's dream sequence, and not one of you has brought it up. This is just a little poke in the right direction so things don't get stuck.

You should trust your intuition. Whenever something seems off, you should check it out.

Jah-woll, mein Führer, Ruthie thought to herself rather uncharitably,

@Normal_Guy: Would it be possible for Raymond to feel the emotions that Ruthie felt during that line? Because if I so, I'd like to use that...

I don't think so. That's a slightly more complicated set of emotions than what Raymond can usually handle, and any discussion stemming from it won't be quite as funny as you're thinking.

Thank you montmorencey. This chapter would have ended shortly whether or not anyone touched the stone, but the sequence I had planned for if someone touched the stone was a little bit more interesting than the one for if no one did. I apologize for making the things that you were supposed to investigate look so much like Schmuck Bait. I can guarantee that future chapters will not have that same problem.

It really depends on when people start to get bored. I intentionally included a lot of places that would make acceptable endings, although I never had much faith in my ability to hold people's interest long enough to reach any of them.

@Normal Guy: I'm sorry, but I think you're really going to have to throw us a bone here. I don't really know what to do next, and I'm not sure if everyone else does either. You can't just throw us back to the basement, and not give us anything to go on. We don't have any leads on what to do next. All I'm asking is for a bit of direction; anything would do.

Sorry about that. I guess I just assumed that you'd do the normal things, like have Greg and George use their powers on everything.

Basically, the stone disappeared while you were in the forest. It's reasonable to assume that the disappearance of the stone is what kicked you out of the forest. The line "As though your connection to this place has been severed," was quite literal. The stone brought you there, and it was your connection to that place. Once it was removed you couldn't remain there.

Anyway, you have a number of ways to investigate what happened to the stone while you were gone. For starters, Greg's power is gives much more in-depth information about the particularly recent past. The removal of the stone was very recent. Second of all, Ruthie's camera was still sitting near the stone, and it was running throughout. It might have caught something interesting. Finally, if you simply leave the room that the stone was in, there is one more small thing of interest to see.

Another thing: George's power might snow something of interest. The stone was the only supernatural object you've found so far. If there's nothing else supernatural here, then there's not much of a point in sticking around.

This chapter is almost over. The purpose of this specific setup was to create a situation that was unambiguously supernatural, but to deny you any solid evidence. That would provide you with more in-character reason to take the investigations seriously. Essentially it says "Hah! The supernatural exists in this setting, but you can't prove it yet." Basically, just clear up two or three things and then you can get out of this creepy house.

The thing is, though, none of us have any reason to doubt that the supernatural exists. It's pretty hard to explain away seeing magic glowing ghosts, isn't it?

It's been fun.

I'm referring to in-character stuff, not out of character stuff. I know that every single player knows that in this particular setting, the supernatural exists. Some of the characters, however, do not, or at least did not before the events of the first chapter. Basically, I was trying (and apparently failing) to set the tone.
