What baffles me the most about that defense can be summed up in one question:

Who are you expecting to buy that defense?

Or, better yet, "Who do you think will just accept that defense as legitimate extenuating circumstances?"

Probably the same people who bought the 'women are natural liars, and besides she had a halter top' defense.

that is pretty much infantilization, in order to shift the blame to someone else the guilty person is reduce to a child who cant control itself while the other one is a borderline cold predator who is always in control.

in short acording to this people, when you see something sexy, your get a boner who them get a life, rip a women cloth and start rapping her while the poor men cant do anything about it.

....in fact, the implication are quite disturbing for men actually.

Jesus. The worst part of that case is that it worked. A lawyer in Memphis walked into a court room, stated that the victim is a liar because she's a woman and that it's not a rape because she wore a halter top, and he won the case with that.

....What the actual fuck? Are you kidding me?

You know its this type of thing that makes me sick of people.

What makes it best is that most of the jurors were women. So these women went, "Yeah, I guess we are a pretty sexy, deceitful bunch. Guilty!"

I meant if they act on their urges and assault/rape someone. As deplorable as some thoughts are they're just thoughts, and once we start handing out legal punishments for thoughtcrimes that's a very slippery slope.

I have the urge to punch stupid people, it doesn't mean should I go around punching people for being stupid unpunished.

Same thing for guys who can't keep their peckers inside their pants.

I'm certainly not going to object to punishing people for sexual assault, but I'm still leery of the idea of permanently maiming someone for any crime. The idea of sterilizing rapists strikes me as little different than the idea of cutting off the hand of thieves. (Well, maybe paralyzing it by severing the nerves or something, since you're not talking about physical castration.)

I don't want to derail this thread with that conversation, though. But I'm not sure where to take it. The general sexism thread? The justice system thread?

It's not so much about the crime as the excuse.

• They say: "It's not my fault that I did that. I have uncontrollable urges that I can't stop. Everyone else is responsible for ensuring that my urges don't act up, because it's impossible to stop them once they get going."
• We say: "I've got a chemical that can help you with that."

This. If the excuse is 'I can't help myself!' then the answer should be 'well here's how we'll fix that'.

That alone wouldn't stop violence against women, not even close, but it should nip that stupid excuse in the bud.

Guys get embarassing and inappropriate boners all the time. The thing is, some of those guys also lack the emotional maturity to not blame whoever makes them horny for it. When these losers get a boner in public from a glimpse of a woman's cleavage (with said woman just minding her own business), they get mad at the woman and her cleavage.

And fucking Michael Reagan said on TV that men should be allowed to sue women for this?! In defense of an accused sexual harasser like O'Reilly?!

I've noted that this justification does go all the way down the animal logic, they clearly do thing of men as nothing but animals controlled by their dicks.

It's an interesting thing to observe, society at large generally objectifies women, treating them as things, while it also animalises men, treating as without the capacity to think. It's insulting to everyone is so many different way.

Yeah I never really got why more of these guys either don't realize or don't care that they're basically saying they're little better than dogs.

Because it gives them an excuse for shitty behavior.

They've been told by society that they are no better than dogs, a lot of men end up beliving and embracing the idea instead of fighting against it. They just want to be top dog, they never question the idea of being a dog in the first place.

It's the same logic that leads to a number of women thinking that they can only be homemakers and exist only to raise children, when almost all of society is saying a thing a lot of people end up beliving it.

But these same men will often complain about how Shcrodinger's Rapist is bullshit and they're poor victims.

Internal consistency is not a feature of traditional gender roles. They may think of themselves as good Dogs that shouldn't be treated as rabid, but the base idea that they're still just an animal remains.

So it turns out that the creator of r/redpill is now a New Hampshire state representative for the Republican Party.

I don't know what's sadder, that is true or that it doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

It probably goes without saying for anyone watching this thread, but that guy who founded that subreddit is really misogynistic. I wonder what his mother and other female family members think about that.

Ah, Maine and New Hampshire are odd ducks when it comes to political viewpoints. In a lot of ways they're just as liberal as the rest of New England, but here and there you'll see folks who make the Bible Belt look positively friendly.

Can confirm-I live in Maine, and make no bones about it, this a purple state. Clinton only won by a couple of points, and if all the independents had voted R the moldy orange would have carried the state comfortably.
