I wasn't overly excited for it before but now I'm really not.

Why couldn't they do what Metro Redux did and just fiddle with settings to make the Xbox One version look better?

Oh really when?

Well from what they say (although, actually, the fact they mention parity might tip their hand) it's not the GPU that's mattering, it's the CPU. From what I understand, the PS 4 and XB 1 actually have roughly the same CPU, but the XB 1 got a post-launch overclock update which makes it slightly faster, though probably not towards any significant improvement.

The CP Us in the new consoles are weak, no question about that.

From memory, they went with AMD CPU/GPU combinations because they used less power than Intel chips and required less elaborate cooling solutions than them to boot. The Xbox One also uses a much more primitive, and slower, version of RAM than the PS 4 - plain vanilla DDR 3 as opposed to GDDR 5.

I really hope this doesn't become "a thing," deliberately downgrading the PS 4 version of multiplat games just because the X Bone is a piece of shit.

1080p should be the bare minumum for a next-gen console, not something they have to struggle to achieve. As much as I like my PS 4, consoles really are a joke compared to a good gaming PC.

No no no, that comes from a happily bygone era of Sony when they didn't 'get' anything.

Sony is taking a very no-nonsense approach this generation[1] especially with that 'this is for the players' tag line. This is in contrast to an earlier ones were they were basically taking the miss the Mr plow approach

Another month another NPD victory for PS 4. 2014 was a pretty damn dry year though, hopefully 2015 has a more steady release schedule of games.

Expect some interesting announcements for the PS Experience in Las Vegas.

I'll be keeping my expectations at a stable medium. Hoping for something to give those holiday sales numbers a swift kick.

They went so far as to make a whole trailer for this event, and stock it with exclusive merchandise. There has to be at least one big announcement there, right?

Normally I'd be cynical about such overt nostalgic pandering to its fan base. But considering the out right contempt Microsoft expressed towards it's customer basis I find this #4ThePlayers credo to be refreshing if not sincere.

I don't understand the attitude that companies aren't allowed to have business motives for keeping their customers happy. I've seen the "Oh, they're just pandering to the fans" thing a lot in relation to Sony's campaign, but what exactly is wrong with that? They've clearly learned that their strategy in the last generation wasn't what people wanted, and they're doing their best to change. Happy fans are good for everyone.

As for whether or not it's "sincere"...oh boy. First off, what a dumb thing to put a value judgement on. Who cares? Whether or not they "mean" it means jack squat. It can't even be quantified. Second of all, I doubt it's a completely cynical ploy. The Playstation's 20th anniversary is next year, so I wouldn't be surprised if Sony was in a celebratory mood.

I liked that video, a lot. Sony have learned a lot from their mistakes of the past, and that has to be congratulated.

Frankly, I don't understand why a company can't have business motives and be sincere.

Yeah but it's like your regular lady of the night saying you should stop using her working name and just call her Jessica.

I mean sure the intention might entirely sincere but wouldn't you be more comfortable if the relationship stay strictly professional?

I like it when game companies and people I buy stuff from are more like total bros than than just some dude behind the counter.

Just sort of feels nice.

I hear there's some Oculus Rift peripherals on the way to fix that. Anyway, I'm all for this kind of thing. It may be pandering, but so what? I like feeling appreciated, and I have sunk a lot of money and time into Sony stuff over the years.

I don't mind a company trying to make money off me as long as I get the sense that they have some respect for me as a customer and value my business, rather than just trying to screw me out of every cent they possibly can.

And frankly, Microsoft was always a shitty company when it came to X Box and never had any kind of vision for console gaming other than making money. Nintendo, Sony and Sega have all moved the industry forward, Microsoft does nothing but ride coattails.

Sony's biggest studios will be there, along with a bunch of 3rd-party developers. There's also a list of games that will be playable.

Hearing Naughty Dog doing a panel or keynote would actually be pretty cool.
