I don't really know if we have been watching the same high school media, but I've always seen parents at least in the background and usually effect the characters or story in some way, usually by denying privileges. I don't know, maybe we are just coming at it from different perspectives.

@Sora: This is the internet; you can never be sure.
@Seraphem:
Except this isn't FIM. It isn't a regression; it's just a different setting in which they're different ages. It's no more an insult to the characters to put them in high school than Muppet Babies was an insult to the Muppets by making them infants. What matters is how the premise is executed. If it's bad it's bad, but just because you don't like the premise doesn't mean that it's inherently terrible.

Reaction Image RepositoryThen why are they shoehorning in carbon copies of the FIM characters and having a direct link to the show?
Yes they aren't the exact same character, but they are are them in all but name.
Plus the whole fucking idiocy of "her greatest challenge yet... HIGH SCHOOL!" Hmmmm spend a few days dealing with teenage bullshit, or fight a reality warping god of chaos that mind rapes your friends and nearly breaks your own spirit.... no the teenage drama is definitely harder.
I get what you mean, and yes for the most part I do agree.. but they are still making Twilight.. the REAL Twilight have to be in high School, making it clear she seems to look like she would fit in, meaning the REST of the mane 6 are also teenagers since apparently Twi is.

So a little late to the party but I liked the trailer
Only complaint I can really make is Spike as a dog, but that will probably bug me until after watching the movie.
Love the animation massive improvement over the earlier images we were given. Best part has to be Twilight reacting to suddenly being a two-legged nonmagical human.
Point, Its not the cliched plot, it's how it's written that counts.

Apocalypse: Dirge Of Swans.why is spike a dog
was a lizard just too out of place
hell, I would have taken a fucking toad for god's sakes, just as long as it was a reptile
my drawing blog ya'll UPDATES 10 TIMES A MONTH WOW, THIS IS STRAIGHT UP MUH SOGGY KNEEand again I'm sure from a story perspective it'll be fine. I do trust the writers. it's the parts the marketing department came up with I hate. And the unlikely but still possible threat of it somehow impacting the real show.
Yeah, ok.
Seeing as I'm probably the only person who has no reason to trust the writers this decision not only seems cliche and lazy, but they really could have gone with something that made more sense.
my drawing blog ya'll UPDATES 10 TIMES A MONTH WOW, THIS IS STRAIGHT UP MUH SOGGY KNEEThat 'High School is her greatest challenge' part could at least be slightly tongue-in-cheek.
And yeah, guys, let's just see how this goes. I can't honestly tell at this point what will work and what won't.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau Projectnothing will work out
my drawing blog ya'll UPDATES 10 TIMES A MONTH WOW, THIS IS STRAIGHT UP MUH SOGGY KNEEThe decision parts that are iffy had NOTHING to do with the writers. And given how they have handled everything so far amazingly.
barring that one writer you all know how I feel about.
Yeah I'm sure they will do the best story they can given the constraints.
but still twilight is NOT a teenager, so why shove HER into high School. The rest sure AU, Twi, nope that's the REAL Twilight.
Everything you have said would be as much of an argument for why the characters in Pokemon are adults, as for why the ponies are adults.
I'm referencing other shows, because FIM doesn't exist in it's own bubble, it's following certain traditions of it's genre. If in other shows, there are teenager heroes who are living on their own, and "important members of their community", then FIM also having such characers without actually mentioning their age, is not a very strong indicator of them being adults, they could as well be teenagers who live a bit like adults, just like all these other cartoon characters.
Equestria is very unusual society in many ways. Twilight isn't acting like a high school student, but she isn't exactly a grad student either. She is hanging around doing magic, and writing letters about friendship to a princess. How old exactly would a human need to be to do that? Is there even such a thing as high school in Equestria? We are yet to see any classroom student older than the CMC. Applejack helping out on the farm is very similar to what many teenagers would have been doing two hundred years ago, while pinkie hanging around with the Cakes could resemble medieval guild apprenticeship, that was usually also done by teenagers. (And let's just not mention "partying" as a career).
Rarity is literally the only one whose lifestyle actually resembles a 21th century adult woman with a career, who takes care of her own business, and who is living intentionally separately from her parents and not due to some need to move away to another town.

Given how closely the market generally matches the show (i.e. not much) I doubt it'll be that bad. And ed said, the "greatest challenge" thing is probably not entirely serious.
Reaction Image RepositoryYeah, that line was probably just a reference to the High School Is Hell trope.
oh my god the design for Dog!Spike looks like Spike mated with the Xenomorph queen and then that hell-spawn chest-busted a dog.
TLDR: it looks ugly
my drawing blog ya'll UPDATES 10 TIMES A MONTH WOW, THIS IS STRAIGHT UP MUH SOGGY KNEEI mean, any PR guy they have would probably be familiar enough with the show's nature to know that high school isn't really her greatest challenge, all things considered.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectExcept in Pokemon, the first episode starts with Ash living at him with his mother before going on his journey. non of them have actual jobs barring the gym leaders in the group. So no not even close.
Given the "friendship" seems to be the single greatest source of power/magic in their world. And she is a student studying magic..... there doesn't have to be a "how old" question.
You admit Rarity is an adult, and the rest of the mane 6 are the same age as her give or take a year or two. No they are all adults.
they hired a bunch of homeless guys on Wall Street and a few retired tv show executives
my drawing blog ya'll UPDATES 10 TIMES A MONTH WOW, THIS IS STRAIGHT UP MUH SOGGY KNEENo that honor still goes to accusing her brothers fiancee of being evil and then getting an epic What the Hell, Hero? from said brother. Followed by everyone giving her a cold shoulder.
But maybe that's just me speaking.
Apocalypse: Dirge Of Swans. We're still talking about challenges, right?
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectNo, we're talking about the hell-spawn that is Spike Dog
my drawing blog ya'll UPDATES 10 TIMES A MONTH WOW, THIS IS STRAIGHT UP MUH SOGGY KNEEThat's the joke. Like in the comedies where old grizzled action heroes are looking after kids, and it's presented as a horrifying tribulation.
"Here is character with lots of dangerous adventures behind her. But can she deal with........ MUNDANE ANNOYANCES????!!!!"
Yeah I just really hate that trope....
The Mundaner the worser!

They are adults, nothing you've come up with even hints at them being anything but. They live on their own, have jobs careers, oh yeah DON'T go to school. they HAVE parents, that they very specifically do not live with. Are important members of heir community.
nothing at all in the show has ever even hinted they are less then fully grown adults
and to simply regress them to being teenagers is stupid.
Oh and don't use "in other shows" as an argument. FIM has made clear the Mane 6 are adults. Not teenagers.
