You pick one Ryder to be your protagonist (either the brother or the sister) and the one you don't pick still exists and plays a role in the game.

Like the Hawke Siblings except you pick which Hawke to be

-inb4 but that means MY Ryder does have a preset persona!-

I think they learned their lesson in trying to make the Shepard the ultimate player avatar and are just like **** it

Earth Alliance Civil War lasted at best half a year in B5 though (since it starts at the latter half of season 4, and each season compasses a year of events). Even the actual fighting in Shadow War was just a year, since its starts at beginning of season 3 and ends at beginning of season 4.

True. There's just a lot of buildup. I mentioned the Earth Civil War because it was the high point for me, and because all B5's many wars feed out of and into all the other wars on the series (the Centauri invasion of Narn, the Shadow War, then the Telepath War and the Drakh War, and before all those the Earth-Minbari War and the *other* Centauri invasion of Narn), and that's a whole mouthful to say. B5's more war than not, but it's a lot of different wars.

And realistically, the actual major offenses against Reapers wouldn't last longer than a year due to being literally eons ahead of other races.

A lot can still happen in a year. My point is just that the war with the Reapers doesn't always even really feel like even that long, depending on how you play. DAO had something of the same problem.

A year's not really enough, given the Reapers' thoroughness. Yes, all the capital worlds might wall within that first year, but with the story of the war ME 3 tells (less about planets and more about fleets, and really just about punching through to put the Catalyst in place), it might have been interesting to see the war continue beyond that point.

It's all speculation. I mean, I would have preferred if the Reaper invasion were not so decisive, but that would have been an entirely different game.

Also, Sur'Kesh was never invaded, and either the quarians, geth or both end the game in control of Rannoch. If the krogan got the genophage cure, it's going to be a very different galaxy we return to (if we return to it) after Andromeda.

Little late for this discussion, but I found Mass Effect 2 to be were Bioware's strengths are best emphasized. Not that I like it more than 1 or even 3, but that's what I come too everytime I think about it.

Bioware's doing another VO contest. Possible insights into the setting in the scripts linked on the blog page.

IIRC, the winners of the similar competition for DAI got to voice the Haven bartender and the villain of Sera's side quest (and they both did good jobs).

This is the quest that the contest winner is featured in, if anyone is interested.

That looks....

Fun.

May dust off the old vocal chords. Give my finest Merc rendition. Is it only the one file you can submit, or d'ya think they'd go for multiple "variations" on the script? :D they only specify 10 MB as filesize.

I don't have a mic at all so I don't think I can do this, unless I go to my university's PAC and use it there and I'm not sure that would even be allowed xD

It'll be followed by Mass Effect Beyond and Mass Effect Awakens.

Possibly also Mass Effect: Mass Harder.

Back OT, I rewatched that gameplay piece and feeling very.... meh about it. The scanning looks like there may be interesting bits. The machines look a bit too fore-runnery. And distinct lack of flirtatious banter about quiet ships.

I'm just disappointed about Tali half-assing since they did have Matt Rhodes concept art since first game that fitted quarians and her well enough tongue

They definitely started over thinking about how much she should be more conveniently(or whatever word was) attractive than that because of her popularity...

The most diehard Tali fans - the creepy ones - wouldn't have mind a very alien look for her, but many people also romanced her because she was friendly, funny and had a cute accent without really spending hours and hours imagining how she looked under the suit. The definitive design was bound to be badly received by part of the Talimancers - and Bioware chose to appeal to the light ones instead of the hardcore ones.

I also feel like Nyreen showed that they took the backlash over Tali in consideration. I have yet to find anyone criticizing the design of female turians.

That was terrible. I'd throw you an upvote in disgust if I could.

^^Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, I agree on not really understanding what you just said. For different reasons.

Like, aren't hardcore Talimancers those who keep doing fanart of Tali as purple human? And if "lightcore" Tali fans didn't care what she would look like, why would they bother to show what she looks like to fans who didn't care about that? tongue

[up][up] I live for that. My jokes are like ONIONS.

Nuance, I gots it. Ish.

And yeah the Tali thing became almost memetically unwinnable. ANYTHING they did would've resulted in forum posts about sweat buckets and other horrors.

But as with all things, if you're going to do something, go all the blooming way - commit. Don't just stick a low res pic in and then not actually relate it to the character model.

So November we're going to get more info then? Jeeeeeez it's actually getting exciting all over again.

I didn't have a problem with how she looked at all. I just think that if they were going to reveal her face, they should have put actual effort into it or not reveal it at all.

This song needs more love.

Well, it is a rush job, but I read a lot of complaints about Tali being "not alien enough" (at that time, I lurked in some dark corners of the BSN). Sure, the people complained about how half-assed her picture looked...but then they also said "she shouldn't have hair/she should this/she shouldn't that".

And they were the hardcorest of the hardcore Tali fans. The ones from the "how does Quarian sweat smell" topic.

Tali: "It just smells like sweat. Why would you even ask that?"

PS: Don't try to look up what "Don't do that in my helmet. It just gunks up the filters," is a reference to.
