I eventually gave up on big walls after too many times when the enemies spawned inside. Now I just build a few towers around the edges to put my turrets on.

Next military base I build is totally going that route. I managed that wall, a couple industrial purifiers in the pond, and a 13-bed barracks with the robot workshop in it before the game said "Nothing more can be built." Guess it'll be a robot factory for now. Not like I need more than that at the moment. I've been engrossed in empire building to the point I haven't even been farther south than it takes to unlock the robot workshop.

On the bright side, I've never had enemies spawn inside those walls. Only one I had even get inside was a super mutant I attacked from on the wall before I actually got any turrets up. Now I have three turrets on top of the entry arch and Ada standing eternal guard from within the covered bridge over top the entrance. That should be enough to warn me it's go-time whenever something tries anything.

I've also got Codsworth upgraded for a balance of carrying capacity, mobility, and combat capability. I swapped out two of his eyes for arms, gave both of those ranged weapons, and stuck as much factory storage armor on him as possible. He has a 255 carry weight, still has his thruster instead of legs, and can fight from any range needed, since he still has his melee weapons.

It's that time again. I'm restarting - still haven't beat the game, finished any faction quests, or even taken the DLC's. Just playing around with a lot of mods and debating whether I want to throw in more, or just go vanilla.

I'm at the SPECIAL screen and I'm willing to take requests. I've farted around with different types and I haven't played in so long I'm not even sure which setup is good anymore (besides max intelligence for higher EXP, but that's kind of droll, no?)

You could always do a no-perks run and try getting by just on boosting your SPECIAL stats.

That would only carry you so far, though. At a certain point, you'd either have to add a Perk or stop leveling up.

Also after further consideration, I have to think Danse knew the truth about himself all along, or was acting on hidden instructions. I mean, his action report for his squad reads like the "least likely Bo S squad ever".

"Yesterday we attacked some raiders (with leather armor and ballistic weapons). We (with powered armor and lasers) lost. We ran away and someone stepped on a landmine.

Then later one of our soldiers died out of internal injuries.

We've had to retreat twice now.

Also, Scribe Haylen wants supply runs for food and ammo. I told her to shut up and stop asking."

Like he couldn't do more damage to the Brotherhood if he was an active enemy combatant, because then the others would at least be allowed to shoot him in the head.

Hey so what's your fastest time beating Fallout 4?

Because I assure you that whatever your time is, you're too slow and you should feel terrible. Some arsehole beats all of the mainline Fallout games in under two hours.

[up][up]All of that just sounds like poor leadership decisions (not to mention the inherent danger of exploring a monster infested hellscape).

[up][up] That's my point though, he couldn't be any worse if he was doing it on purpose, so maybe he was. Especially since, barring the Sole Survivor, nothing can scratch him.

You can find the police station and watch Danse exterminate all the ghouls without the help he called for. And of course there's the time he stands on a rocket launch pad and is like "oh, gotta take a knee here. Give me ten seconds and I'll be right as rain though."

Of course, poor leadership might be systemic at this point in the Brotherhood, considering they're being led by a 20 year old whose adult life seems desperate to make up for the timidness of his youth.

[up] And the whole organisation MAY have also been responsible for the death of some of the more idealistic members. PLUS he does the whole King Arthur spiel.

The Brotherhood are a bit more Enclave like in this incarnation but they were never really "good guys" - House and Caesar get it right - they're hoarders. They have no real endgame plan other than "Dont let people tech up or else BOOM all over again."

[up]Eh, sure most of the Brotherhood's various classic chapters are hoarders but the Lyons Brotherhood and the Maxson Brotherhood aren't just hoarders. They're also going out and restoring order. Maybe an order that isn't as good as say House's but it's not they're fault they aren't immortal pre-war technocrats.

Sorry, best Brotherhood will always be the Midwest Brotherhood from Tactics. Inclusive Imperialism devoted to securing the surroundings is sure as Hell better than racism-driven eradication of entire species.

[up]Inclusive Imperialism devoted to securing the surroundings sounds exactly like the Lyons and Maxson Brotherhoods. The only extermination that Maxson's Brotherhood does is against feral ghouls and super mutants, two groups that frankly deserve it. Sure they're discriminatory against non-feral ghouls which is unfortunate but I don't believe they exterminate them.

[up][up] I know that before Fallout 3 the Brotherhood was racist against ghouls, and that was before ferals had been invented as a concept. I don't remember the Brotherhood's reaction to non-ferals in 4, but there aren't any major factions of them. How do they react if you bring Hancock around?

[up]Yeah, anti-ghoul discrimination was present even in the Lyons Brotherhood. In Fallout 4 if you bring Hancock they react with disgust as if he were a leper, but they tolerate his presence. So obviously discriminatory but not necessarily genocidal.

[up]I'd argue that's probably more gameplay and story segregation. You can also bring a fucking Coursier into their stronghold and they don't react at all.

Similar to how Winterhold in Skyrim is notoriously racist to Argonians and Kajit, but a player character of the same race will never be acknowledged as either.

[up]Maybe. That's certainly true but do we have any evidence that there is anything worse than the (admittedly bad) discrimination against non-feral ghouls?

We're also told that they go in and take what they want from locals. Anything from technology to food supplies to feed their people. 'Fuck you, I'm taking your shit' is not really a good attitude. Not to mention their definition of technology is all over the place and it doesn't sound like they leave much for the people under their supposed protection to protect their land with, let alone any supplies to protect at all.

[up]I disagree. They're creating Order and making the locals lives better in the long run. Involuntary tribute to pay for the common good is simply another name for taxation, and personally I see nothing morally wrong with taxes.

On the rest I'm not so sure, in my Brotherhood run they seemed pretty clear in what kind of technology they seize (the advanced dangerous kind), I'm not aware of any evidence that they seize material that is necessary in the day to day life of the average wastelander. After-all one doesn't exactly need a plasma gun when the Brotherhood hunts down the various threats.

There's a Brotherhood quest on the Prydwen to gather supplies for the quartermaster. He tells you to get them from the locals, and that it doesn't matter if you extort them or make deals.

I dunno, I don't think a hostile foreign power has the right to set up shop and declare itself to be the legitimate government of the region and collect "taxes"

They have absolutely no mandate.

[up]If there was a competing government I might agree. But the area in question is a lawless monster infested wasteland with no sovereign government and thus in my view as proper Terra Nullius the Brotherhood of Steel (or any organized polity) has the right to introduce order and stability.

They're also not protecting their citizens to a degree that would make them agreeable to such taxes anyway. Taking AWAY weapons from them is probably a stupid idea.
