...No they do not.

The white frost is a phenomenon that exists independant of them. They do use it in their magic (As part of their traveling), but they are not the cause of it.

If they made it, then they'd not be trying to evacuate their entire world away from it.

Yeha the White frost seems to be Witcher Cthulu. Possibly sentient. But no motive given.

And this is a world that has actual DAGON in it.

So I'm renting this game, love it so far and everything, but if I'm at level 26 and at the quest where I'm gathering allies, would I be able to be at level 35 before the end? I like to take on the sidequests at equal levels and I'm concerned since some quests give me one or two experience points for what seems like no reason at all.

You gather allies throughout the entire game. What region are you in right now?

Oh, okay. I'm probably biased because I'm doing pretty much everything except the main story.

Best thing is to collect sidequest then just do them when you can - main quests give you more experience. Good to get one or two of those done, then blitze sidequests in regions, do boards etc.

After Kaer Mohren there's a few extra bits and bobs, but you'll know when you're about the head to the end game You get pretty much a notice telling you so.

How much impact do your choices in the 2nd game have on Wild Hunt? I think I'm going to try and finish Ao K on this long weekend coming up.

If you load an old save, your choices (as I understand it) mainly affect the initial relationships between Geralt and various characters from the previous game. I'm not aware of them affecting the ultimate outcome more than superficially.

If you do not load an old save, then the game asks you (in character) about your earlier choices and runs with those.

Whether you kill Letho or not is also important.

Man, Witcher 2 really picks up in Act 2. I'm having a blast with this one. I think I'm near the end of this Act, the town is under siege and I have to choose between going after Sile or relieving the defenders. I'm leaning towards the former for pragmatic reasons but also because Iorveth getting killed sounds like a positive.

Update: Saved the elf for the city's sake, though Sile got away (but I assume that happens anyway cause killing her before the next Act would likely screw up the plot). Let Roche kill the rapist king because screw that guy.

I find that Iorveth has a phenomenal Act 2 but a lackluster Act 3 where Roche is different and has a lackluster Act 2 while a phenomenal Act 3. Weird.

I liked Roche's path, though I haven't played the other so I have no point of comparison.

Beat Ao K last night, it was great. I saved Sile (that looked like a terrible way to die, she didn't deserve that), spared Letho and the dragon and choose to go rescue Triss instead of helping Roche. I also revealed the extent of the nobles' plotting. Looks like Roche didn't need much help in the end though.

Did Wild Hunt's tutorial before bed, I can already tell that this game will be even better than the first two. I hear that mods are an option, are there any ones you guys consider essential?

There's an "Always Full Exp" mod, that prevents quests from giving you partial (or no XP) if you do them at too high a level (Coz, say, you happen to FIND them when you're over leveled for them).

Otherwise I don't think they are "Must have" mods, some make the game look better/different or add some other features. But nothing big.

I did Roche's path because I don't like Scoia'tel.

[up][up]Cool, I'll look into that.

[up]That was part of my reasoning for that choice. The other part was that Roche had been nothing but helpful to Geralt and their interests were mostly aligned.

I sided with Iorveth because Roche demanded that Geralt take part in a political assassination before he'd help rescue Triss, whereas all Iorveth wanted was to steal the prison ship so Iorveth could free his people and get to Vergen, where Triss is.

A political assassination of a traitor to Temeria and an all-around monstrous person? No barrier to me.

Except that Geralt prefers to avoid politics whenever he can. Political assassinations are a no-no for him unless the target is a threat to him or people he cares about ie Radovid.

Loredo's a monster, but tyrants like him are commonplace in the Witcher-verse.

Ok, I grabbed the Full Exp mod. I also think I'm going for no the Weapon Degradation mod, cause I tend to hate that mechanic in any game ever (realism be damned). And to be honest I'm really tempted by the mod that let's you carry more stuff.

If you do new game plus, get the mod that lets you add more skill slot. but I don't recommend it for a regular playthrough as it's sort of game breaking.

Looks like the weight mod is out of date, so I'll pass on that and just stick to unbreakable weapons.

[up]I'll think about that if I ever do a second playthrough. Right now I want to do as much of a first playthrough as I can this month before grad school gets started again in September.

You'll feel bad for sparing Sile life when you find her again in Witcher 3.

As far as I'm concerned, there was a couple of mods that made my game great, from good:

  • No duration/charge on oil
  • No weapon wear
  • Generic skill tree as passive

That's pretty much all I wanted from mods. Coincidentally I had found one that does all that, but it also added other changes that were rather gamebreaking. That, or I actually got good in Death March.

[up][up] I'm sure I will. I also gave Dethmold a necromatic spell in Act 2, in a moment of total Genre Blindness. Those mistakes in 2 will certainly keep 3 interesting.

Man, I haven't had this much fun in an open world since Skyrim.
