Lucky Star and K-On show the characters going to college.
The former has the characters going to separate schools which creates different relationships - Konata is just as likely to hang out with Misao now as she is with Kagami, Tsukasa, and Miyuki since they go to the same college while the other three go elsewhere.

And for the rest, I suppose the Tethercat Principle is at work. Unless the author has something in mind, it's up to you to imagine their life after school.

After going to /a/ someone brought it up that Slice of life character like the ones from Kyoto Animation seem so happy, yet I have now wondered happens to them and relationship after high school?
