sigh up

Is was a cool but clear winter day at Brook's pass school for girls. It was the beginner of a new school year and for many young bright students it was their first time at the Highly exclusive and respected education Institute Nestled in countryside Virginia.

A multitude of new transfers were at the Wrought iron gates with their possessions and luggage in toe Babbling away in excitement in nervous excitement and Nervous anticipation at the first day.

Headmistress Malysa Carlton looked at them them from from the window of her plush yet modest office stroking an old black tomcat in hands

'smallest number my new students yet this year, and witch say 13 is a luck number eh? Gregory?'

Gregory didn't reply and continue to lick himself in a private area. This was hardly a new turn of events but the Headmistress had enough of the cold shoulder.

Malysa held him up and look him in eyes.

'Gregory I know you still mad at me. What happened to your mistress was a mistake, don't give me the silent treatment, You think that a day doesn't go by that I don't wish I could turn back time and make things right? You gonna move on and open up to me'

The cat looked back disinterested at her. It said nothing.

Malaya sigh to her self and put him down.

'Fine then' she said more to her self then her Schools mascot.

'Let's go meet the new meat'

The first day of a new year. And what a year it was going to be!

The young woman would have fidgeted in place if that wasn't unladylike. But still, this was exciting. This day marked the very first day that she, Calisera of the royal line of L'Trixis, Crown Princess of Mu, was allowed in Mundania! She'd been told that a Witch's school wasn't exactly roughing it in the mortal world, but still. She was near Mundania and out of her native dimension for the first time ever.

She stood in line with the other girls and marveled at what it was like to not be instantly recognized. Back home she had attended Lady Ishtar's school and even the teachers had been deferential because of her rank. In some ways it was gratifying. In other ways though, it had made her feel isolated. So she was glad when her parents had told her she needed to broaden her horizons. Now she stood in the Witch Brook school uniform, trying not to fidget. The blonde young woman didn't really know what she wanted to do first.

At her feet sat her luggage. She had been pained to leave her home in the palace but this would be a good experience! Besides, she had all the important things. Her cape and broom and other essentials for a proper witch in training. In her hand she held a long wand of shaped, translucent pink crystal with gold inlays and spirals twisting along its' length. It was her favorite, and for her first trip out of Mu she wasn't leaving without it.

So, without fidgeting, she looked around the line with just her wide blue eyes, taking in the scene and wondering what was to come next.

Sebastian Taylor left his shed. He was ways hated mondays with a passion, but this particular Monday he had a special this tasteful for: The Introduction and Induction of new students.

Catching a look of the disheveled and wild looking man which he know all too well to be himself in the reflection of small shed door window he sigh and produced a her comb from his pocket and tap it twice on the crown of head and watched as the ragged unkept hair formed itself into neatly folded parts.

'Yes I know make a good impression and don't scare the children' he said to him self as he turned and walked slowly across the field.

He mentally went over the tasks the headmistress had ask him to do. Introducing the new girls to the school, show them around the Facilities, explaining the rules and responsibilities expected of young gifted witches, the emphasise the value of education and -as usual- refrain from killing anyone no matter how annoying.

'I'l try to keep that in mind'' he said to self came up to the small group of giggling schoolgirls.

Less a dozen this year, I'm surprise there are this many the Incident last Halloween he thought to himself.

His joy at the small number of Children to deal with faded as memories of that night came back to him, the cries still as fresh in his mind as before.

He bit his tongue and focused on the present.

'May have your attention please'

The children paid him no attention, engrossed with each other Company.

Sebastian sighed and make two small yet unmistakable claps. The laugher and merrymaking died as if it had been snuffed out.

Calisera turned her eyes when the clapping came. She had to admit surprise at seeing a man on the campus of a witch's school. She had never seen one at her old school in Mu. But it would be impolite to gasp or make a comment so instead she paid attention. He obviously had to have some importance to be here.

Sebastian smile at the sudden discomfort of the teenagers

still got it

'Now that I've got your attention. My is Name Sebastian Taylor, and I will be your guide to show around the facilities our fine Institution.'

He rustled in his pocket and pulled out the yellowed and damaged piece of paper that the headmistress had given him. He read from it half-heartedly.

'Good morning class of 2013, Welcome to your first day at Brook's pass School for gifted girls. For many of mundane background this will be your first time in Witching Society.'

He paused and took a glance at a small young blonde, who the headmistress had told him about.

'For others' he continued.

'This will your first experience having to Interact with the mortal world. Regardless of your origins all young witches are welcome our fine institution for the chance expand their magical and personal development. Our school was founded in late 18th century after the unpleasantness many young witches suffered in the colonies at the time. It's aim to provide quality education to the young witches from Mundane homes so they make develop their powers in a responsible and socially conscious manner to guide mundane and magic society to mutual understanding and benefit.

Sebastian turn the page over and looked up at the crowd of children.

'My I have a call of names please?'

Her twin braids bounced lightly as she turned fully to the teacher. She had to wonder what unpleasantness would affect those long-ago Witches. Was the mundane world so bad?

However! A rollcall had been instituted. She crossed her hands in front of her, tracing a circle before forming a triangle with her fingertips and curtseying. "Calisera of the House of L'Trixis of Mu, Sir Taylor."

Taylor took a deep breath and exhaled. He wondered if the use of 'sir' was meant to be some sort of calculated insult from the young girl or just a sign of her sheltered upbringing. Either way he took a dislike to it.

'Yes thank you miss L'Trixis, there is no need for such formal titles here thank you. Your first and second name will be sufficient.'

He marked the paper.

'I take it you're transfer from lady Ishtar's school, correct?'

She smiled and nodded politely. "Yes I am. It is a pleasure to meet you all." She turned in place and repeated her bow with the intricate circling of her hands and triangluar finger pattern to the other girls in the crowd. Then she turned back to Sebastian, still smiling sunnily.

Sebastian despite his best efforts found his mood improvement. The girl was clearly naive in his opinion but seem it be genuine with her politeness rather then the conceited facade he was use to from the spoiler brats that typically come from the more prestigious witch schools.

'Well good to meet you as well' he said without too much effort.

'You will find this school very different from you previous class, Brooks Pass integrated with mundane societies much as possible. To the outside world we are one of the most exclusive and highly respected girl schools in Virginia, We -In secret- part an active part in the maintaining the pleasantness between Mundane and magic relations.'

He gave the girl a stern look.

'I hope I don't have to stress the value of discretion and restraint regardless the use of magic with outside mundane community?'

Sebastian went to answer, however a there a sound like thunder and a green flash of light that drowned out what he had been trying to say.

Hovering few a few meters in air a woman now appeared. She was an unlike to the man as night was to day. She was well dressed in rather majestical and expensive looking robes, her facial features where statuette yet friendly, possessing an almost radiant smile. Her hair was black and Immaculately straight except for a single white streak of hair on her left temple that went pass her shoulders.

She held a radio Microphone in her hand and rise it to her mouth to speak. It was clearly for appearances however as her voice her was clear and loud and seem to easily project everywhere around the courtyard.

'Hello children, my name is Malysa Carlton, I am your Headmistress.'

She smiled.

'And I would like to personally welcome you all to to Brooks Pass School for girls'

Calisera looked up in surprise as the majestic woman appeared in the air above them. She was carrying one of those devices that she had heard about. The...what was it? The tech-no-logy. Her parents had told her of such marvels. They had even purchased her something called a "cell phone" which they said they could use to communicate with her. Still, she'd never seen one of these technological devices used before. She'd have to get one of those for addressing crowds from the palace balcony!

Then she spoke and Calisera made a small eeping sound. She quickly circled her hands and formed the triangular pattern with her fingers, then curtesyied in a deeper manner than she had to Sebastian. One always respected a Headmistress!

'Hello there children and welcome to brooks pass school for girls.'

Malysa looked around. Sebastian had wandered off, No surprise there. He probably went to go to argue with Gregory over mess he had made in the flowerbeds again. Standing at the front of the small crowd and paying attention diligently was a small blonde witch who was easily recognisable even with knowing her picture. Beside the girl the other Neotypes watched, although not with the same amount of enthusiasm. There was a young dark skinned athletic looking witch who was clearly uncomfortable with having to stand still and clearly fidgeting. Behind her was a shy small redheaded girl with her hood up trying her best to make herself invisible. Standing erect behind her to was tall witch with long straight blonde hair and a subtle look of disapproval on her face. Their eyes meet uncomfortably for a split second until Malysa broke away.

Woodworth's daughter she thought to herself, her mother probably only decided to still sent her her so she find stuff to complain to the board about. The rotten apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

She continued her speech, Mentally going over the point she had practised repeatedly with a mirror clone the night before. She started with reselling the history school's history. A nice safe opening and nod nod to their shared heritage that should ease the moans from the old guard families of at least publicly.

'Back in the days when America was first being colonized, Brook’s Pass was a small fort town, from its humble origins it soon grew into hub of commerce and social interaction for the entire region. The Madeline Brooks Institution for the Refinement and Education of Young Women (Now known simply as Brooks’ School for Girls) was founded as one of the first supernatural educational institutes of the New World. From leaps and bounds and this school has become one of the premier educational facilities for young women in the entire country. A respected name both in mundane a magical society...'

Sebastian quietly excused himself from assembly and discreetly made his way into the treeline surrounding the school.

There was the unmistakable aroma, far too subtle from any of the witches to pick up but never the nevertheless clearly there. Tobacco smoke. Hardly something out of the ordinary at girl's school. Even with magic powers at their disposal teenagers still tend to rebel in their typical predictable manner. But the underlying linger to it worried him greatly. The smell was unfiltered almost Incense like, lacking the harsh chemical smell he was painfully familiar with. Who whoever was smoking it clearly had not bought a cheap packet smokes in some misguided attempt to be rebellious but had developed a taste for the finer brands for prolong suicide. He could now smell the cheap cologne hanging in the air. Sebastian moved slowly and with care, care full not to give away his position

There was a man in the woods, and he was watching.

Calisera listened raptly as the Headmistress spoke of the illustrious history of the school. It was fascinating to learn about how the ancient witches had founded the school amidst the chaos of the pioneer days.

She didn't really notice the other girls. Instead she had taken her scroll parchment and quill from it's case and was making notes on the Headmistress's speech. There might be a test on this later! As she wrote in her flowng, elegant Muian script, she did peep around her. Why weren't the other girls paying attention? The Headmistress was speaking and that was important!

Sebastian's sneaked up behind the grubby old man in a brown coat taking pictures of the assembly with a high-powered camera, a rolled your own cigarette in his mouth.

Sebastian sigh to him self, yet another conspiracy nut. He really did hate Mondays. He decided to play it cool.

'That your daughter then?' He ask the man mockingly 'You must be so proud'.

Gary Reed Jumped a good a 2 feet in the air. Narrowly avoiding braining himself on a low laying Treebranch. He quickly turned to the large wild looking man and to his credit righted himself.

'You know what I'm after' He said. 'the truth!''

'I know all about your secret little rituals and how you brainwashing young girls with your 'school', and I won't rest until the world knows.' he continued.

Sebastian mentally went over the dressing down the headmistress had given last time he took it upon himself keep secrets secret. He took a deep breath and went over the prepare speech he been told to say.

'I have no idea what you're talking about? This school is a highly respected private education institute and while deeply respectful too many alternative belief systems such as Voodoo, Hoodoo, Wicca, Native American and Scientology is purely secular institution dedicated purely to the education and development of the fields of the humanities, arts and sciences...'

'Oh yeah' said the man, 'then how do you explain the levitation act your headmistress pulled out there'

He held up his camera.

'I've got the proof right here'

Sebastian idly toyed with dispatching man right there with the justification he knew too much but knew his headmistress wouldn't see things that way.

'Oh really you have proof?' he said, 'let me look at that'.

Gary Reed blink as he saw his thousand dollar camera suddenly appear in the large man's hand.

'Well that is fascinating' he said looking at display screen. 'Oops...'

He made of show dropping the device and 'accidentally' stepping on it. Gary looked in horror as the guaranteed carbon fibre protective case shattered like in eggshell under the man's heal.

'Oh Butterfingers.' Sebastian said. 'Look at that they don't make them like they used to do they?'

'That's my property of you have no right to do that!' Gary shouted at him.

'I'm sorry,' Sebastian said sarcastically.

'We'll get the police here to sort it out, I'm sure they love to defence your constitutional right to sneak into a private school and take pictures of underage girls'

Gary Reeds muttered something under's his breath by didn't object.

'I didn't think so' Sebastian said coldly. 'I think you should go now, I heard something about dangerous animals in these words you know?'

Gary dropped his cigarette and put it out.

'The truth about the international coven suppressed again by another one of their the witches lap dogs. Unbelievable.' He said.

He turned to walk away.

Sebastian seeing a small hard looking stone on the ground picked it up held it between thumb and forefinger and aimed it at the back of man's balding head. One clean shot would be all that was needed.

He thought of his headmistress, and lowered his arm.

'Yes I know' he said ashamed of him self. 'I can't go back to that, not now.'

He cleaned up the camera pieces and drop cigarettes butts and slowly returned to the school. If he bothered to keep up with mundane technology he may of noticed the missing memory card. But he would hardly of cared. It was the began of a new school year and he had bigger things to worried about.

The Headmistress had finished her speech on the schools history by the time to Sebastian had got back.

She look at the crowd of disinterested schoolchildren. She decided to go off script. Get some student interaction.

'But if course you didn't come here to to learn about history, Our school is dedicated to giving young disadvantaged young witches the opportunity to have the brightest future possible. '

she clicked her fingers and appeared in the crowd.

Get down to their level She thought to herself. Show the kids I can related to them.

'Why don't' you young bright girls introduce yourself?' She said pointing her broken up mic at the crowd.

'Any volunteers?'

She blinked at the suddenness. Why was the Headmistress...oh! Right! Her tutors had told her about this. When speaking to the common man it sometimes helped to speak at their level. How thoughtful of her. She looked around, noting the other girls in the crowd. Well, if they wouldn't go, she would. Set an example. Be a leader, like her father always said.

She went up to the microphone and lightly touched it with her wand, not sure if it would bite or do...something. Then she smiled brightly at the collection of girls. These were her fellow students! "I am Calisera of the Royal House of L'Trixis, Crown Princess of the dimension of Mu. This is my first time in your world so I'm hoping to get to know it, and you, better." She remembered something then. "My hobbies include dragon-watching, attending the mermaid races, and painting. I'm hoping to learn more about your hobbies and maybe share in them as time goes on." She stepped back from the mic, still smiling.

She turned to the Headmistress. "I am hoping to achieve a more rounded education. My dimension has contact with the witches of this world. One day I will be responsible for ensuring continuing good will and trade between this world and my own, and my parents believe that it is for the best that I learn more of it now. My education at Lady Ishtar's school taught me the basics of magic. Amazing said the headmistress 'I'm interested in learning more about your witches of your dimension, tells us more about these dragon races.

A tall blonde witch rises her hand.

'I have a question' She said carefully.

Of course thought the headmistress biting her lip.

'Of course my dear, and you are?' she said as politely as she could.

'My name is Circe Woodworth' the girl replied. 'if I could be so bold, while it is hardly my place as a student to question the staff of this school. Is it really appropriate that something as important as the education and safety of the Students of brook pass be entrusted with a teacher as... Ahem... inexperienced such as yourself miss?'

It was a already a cold day but the temperatures seem to drop extra 20 degrees at this point. Malysa had expected some sort of snide remark form the girl, but she was sunned but audacity of the young girl'

'Well I,'she said unsure of herself.

The girl continued.

'The previous headmistress had been at this school for over a Hundred and fifty years. Your self have I believe have been here for a fraction of that. May I ask why if education and development of young girls is as important as to you as you claim why you felt it appropriate to take the reins of headmistress when other members of staff clearly have more experience?'

'Well because I...' She was literally lost for words. Malysa felt Humiliated. She looked around as if the answer would provide itself to her. She saw the school well tended lawns, the The shocked look at the students waiting for the reply. The old school gates with it's motto clearly above in stone.

'Because my dear' she said confidently. 'People who you can overlook can surprise you with great achievements given the opportunity, after all power comes in all shapes and sizes.'

'That my be the case but the recent violent deaths of last October of...'

'Next student!' the headmistress said with a smile that looked surgically planted to her face. She pointed at red head girl with the hoodie.

'Yes my dear you want to say something?'

'No I didn't' said the small girl a look of concern on her face.

'Don't be shy, come here' said Headmistress grabbing her gently but firmly by the arm.

When the redheaded girl was called up, she stepped back into the crowd and looked at Circle in complete confusion. Was it a custom to question the Headmistress here? But her question seemed so...well...rude. She couldn't figure it out.

The day moved as the students were pushed around the school and showed the facilities, the library with it's mysterious looking books and its Ominous caged advanced studies section. Pass it's mundane but well equipped looking gymnasium that looked barley used, it's surprisingly well-stocked up-to-date computer lab with the trendiest computers and Internet access. It's herbal gardens full of strange mysterious looking plants. For many many students it's all to much to take in one day.

Students found themselves relieved at the end the day to find themselves at the schools dining area. Modern in design with open big glass windows and stainless steel chairs and tables. It could easily be mistaken for a neat but normal school canteen if It wasn't for the young translucid woman cutting away vegetables hovering a foot or two above the ground

Young translucent woman's was busy slicing a cucumber with a with a scarily sharp looking knife that she somehow seem to hold in her hand. Seeing the girls she put down the knife, floated disturbingly Free some open flames grill, through the counter and waved at the girls.

'Hello girls' the ghost said Cheerfully. my name is Miss Mallon and I'm your cook. You can call me Mary.

The tour was a bit overwhelming to be honest. She understood such things as the herbal gardens and the library but this lab for computers completely threw her. What were they supposed to do with the strange metal boxes she wondered? The gymnasium barely registered with her at all. She'd never seen one and didn't know what it was for.

But then they came to the cafeteria. This she understood! She was used to conjuring her own food, but she'd found that it just didn't taste as good as what the royal chef and his people prepared. Unhealthy snacking was a vice, her mother had told her, so she tried to limit herself to the simple four meals a day a growing girl needed. When she saw the ghost, she couldn't help but wave back. It was good to see that some people didn't let a little thing like being deceased stop them from being productive citizens!

"Greetings...Mary?" She stumbled a bit on the name, and on the familiarity of using it, but recovered with a smile. She described tonight's food, none of which Calisera had any experience with. Exciting! She happily took her place in line and a plate, eager to try this new food. The faux pas with the wine was swiftly overlooked with nary a glance. After all, it would be rude to notice.

Circe pushed past several smaller girls and made herself to where Calisera was standing

'So you're the princess of Mu? She said slowly looking the short slightly soft looking witch up and down.

'My mother considered sending me to the gardens of Mu academy, but felt she would rather have me close to home. That's what she claims any way. What did a witch of your status do to screw up and get sent here?'

She continued before Calisera had a chance to answers.

'Didn't take a shining to any of the stable boys at your old school did you?' She's said with a wryly smile.

She had a strange unpleasant to her, her tone and body language suggested friendly jest, but her cold blue eyes says other wise.
