Who is your first choice to portray (for the first time in a Hollywood motion picture), in a film adaptation of a series of books by Lee Child about a six foot four inch tall former US Army Military Police Major and well known vagrant hard ass? And where in that series of books do you start when you are making your adaptation?

Do you answer Gerard Butler or Russell Crowe, or any of a number of big bulky yet skilled actors? And start, as seems logical, with book one of the series?

If you did, then you aren't the complete fuckwit who chose to:

  • Cast Tom Short Arse Bastard Cruise, who is five foot fuck all in his stocking soles.

  • Start with the ninth book in the series when all the character development has already been done.

I would say more but I would devolve into incoherent sweariness.

Here comes the boom will probably be the best thing American film California exports this year, which will be the best thing they put out since Tropic Thunder. Maybe they should just lay off the adaptions and "A list stars(overused)" a little until 2013?

Found a Facebook site that agrees with me.

Which is hardly surprising, 8-)

As a fan of the books, I'm willing to give this a shot. Sure Cruise wouldn't be my first choice but he's far from the worst pick I think.

Hmm, I am a fan of the books too. As such, I think Tom Cruise is about the worst possible choice for the role. Mind you I did say the same thing for Interview with the Vampire, but his screen presence did help to salvage something from the ruins.

It isn't really even about Tom Cruise, they have him portraying Reacher in such a vengeful anti-hero stereotype.

I never thought of Reacher that way(reading in the order they were written, currently at "61 Hours"). I always kind of considered him quite, intense, and overall a good dude. He's an absolute bastard to the bad guys, but is the friendly enough sort when it comes to innocent people.

[up] Did you miss "Nothing to Lose", wherein Reacher spreads poison across eastern Colorado, no doubt harming many, many innocent people?

Jack Reacher's bodycount of innocent civilians compared to that of his enemies is so astronomically insignificant that you would need the Hubble to see it on a graph. Trufax.

Well I saw the film and thought it was pretty good, never read the books so it dosen't matter to me how faithful the film is it the source material.
