Eh, it's not really worth pursuing either way given that it's not really going anywhere.

Close to what JT said. Though it was more then JUST her transformation into an alicorn. yeah Alicorn and Princess are almost synonymous. The things is WHY she was ascended. It wasn't JUST her magical power. It was everything about her. It was her having proven over and over to Celestia that she was ready, that she was able to handle that power, that she was deserving of it. The thing with the spell was just the final test. Seeing just how well she TRULY understood the Magic of Friendship.

And yeah still go with the My Little Denarians take on Royal guards. Their entire MO whenever there is a problem is to evacuate any civilians, and keep up a perimeter keeping more out. While The Princess and/or the Mane 6 deal with it.

The test wasn't the only reason they promoted her, you know. The whole point was that it demonstrated her true understanding of how the elements work, which is something that has a lot to do with the princesses.

Yes. The test was just that, one final thing Celestia needed to know. One last thing after EVERYTHING else Twilight had done. It was for everything she had done up till then, being who she is. All if it was what made Celestia consider her worthy of being a Princess.

Gathering together the new Bearers of Harmony. Figuring out the secret of the Elements and getting them to activate once more. Purging Nightmare Moon from Luna. Saving her friends from Discord's mind warping and leading them to defeating him once more. Defeating Sombra. Or more accurately, proving that she is willing to sacrifice her own personal gain, for the greater good. Everything she has demonstrated showing she would be a pony able to bear the responsibility being a Princess was.

The final test, was to see if she was able to ascend. If she truly understood the Magic of Friendship well enough to become the Princess of Friendship, like Cadance with Love. That's what the final test was bout, not he ability to be a Princess, but whether she was ready to do what it took to become an alicorn.

Okay. I can kind of get that. I still don't think that it was handled well and I still think that it feels like an unnatural conclusion to her character arc, but it at least makes some sense.

Because it's NOT a 'conclusion' to anything, it's just one more step in her journey.

Once has I why dies discussion need to be in this thread? I keep being disappointed by no spoilers or speculation on future plot development.

Also, Spike gets to light the Equestria Games torch; nice to see him get acknowledged. Pity I won't be able to watch the episode live this Saturday.

Either that or Discord is helping Fluttershy game the system by generating infinite product.

Maybe, or he's there by himself. He seems to be creating a whole army of lamps. (see the picture labeled 8). Discord is creating his equivalent to tacky Tiffany lamps.

I'm, admittedly, somewhat surprised that Discord might be showing up in this episode. I thought we wouldn't see him until the finale. Not that I'm complaining.

I can't get past the fact that that clip seems to spoil a large part of the Games and that Spitfire beats Rainbow Dash.
