All of that about the "host body" stuff is why I was certain I was going to see that image of Breen with a wormy Combine lower half by the end of Episode 2. But I didn't, so I guess it's concept art.

It probably was. We did see Breen. His wormy body was more than a lower half. It was the whole thing. Remember that Advisor who almost kills you in the farmhouse? Say hello to Breen.

I don't think Breen is coming back, because the breengrub twitter was said to be noncanon.

Does the Great Lord Gaben, Praise to His Name, even need to bring out Half-Life 2: Episode 3, or Half-Life 3, or whatever the game's supposed to be called at this point? Valve doesn't need the money. They make hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue annually (at least) - indeed according to this Forbes article, it's closer to a billion:

http://www.forbes.com/sites/oliverchiang/2011/02/15/valve-and-steam-worth-billions/

And you just know the fans are going to hate whatever Half-Life game comes out at this point for it being delayed, or not as good as Half-Life 2, or not the same as Half-Life 2 or indeed being the same as Half-Life 2.

It's probably in development hell because Valve want it to be as good as Half-Life and Half-Life 2 were back in the day, and they know everyone has high expectations. Valve may be rolling in cash due to Steam but they are still a game developer, it will come out eventually.

I personally wouldn't bet on that with my worst enemy's money. It's too big a gamble at this point.

Additionally they may not need it financially, but they have a "work on what you want" policy, and they'll always have people who want to be working on Hal Half-Life.

I don't think it's ever gonna come out at this point. It's been far too long, far superior games with better or improved concepts have appeared since then, and every lead so far has been a dead end. And even if Valve did release Episode 3 or a full blown sequel, the hype and (probable) disappointment would weigh upon it heavily, likely damaging the chance of a sequel to that sequel as well.

I really don't think Valve is just going to abandon the series, especially since Episode 2 ended without any kind of resolution for the story. Also, both Half-Life games (plus the episodes) still hold up very well when played today, the only real advantage shooters that have come after it has been the technology, of which Half-Life 3 will surely be on the cutting edge.

Made it to the Nihilanth, and he's giving me fits >_< I can make him open his head because one bolt from the crossbow equals one of the stars that's circling around him, but I can't get up there to hit his brain >_<

[up] But Half-Life 3 will actually be good.

DNF probably came down to the Duke Nukem brand not really working with the current gaming culture.

I just think the developers lost the plot on what made Duke Nukem 3D good, both in gameplay and atmosphere.

You don't need to shoot the brain until Nihilanth has taken a certain amount of body damage.

Technically you could wait until he's >Crippled for the final blow, but I think you have to at least remove all the stars.
